Battletech Kickstarter News.

Hell yeah. Here's to hoping it works out. The current mech game is lacking big time.
We're seriously lacking in mech games and space sims. I fire up Elite Dangerous every 2 years or so and then just get bored after like a week. I need a game with an actual story. Still dreaming of the day when Star Citizen is released, but I don't know if I'll be alive in 2032 when it's released. :(

This is actually looking really fookin good.. I am hype!

The open ended mercenary campaign sounds awesome.. Loving the random event elements too. Reminds me of FTL a bit, but I imagine will be more forgiving.

Newegg has Battletech Standard Edition for $31.89 using promo code EMCPTEY42. The Deluxe Edition is also on sale for $40.99 without the need for a code. Both still come with the preorder perks. The latter just comes with non-game perks including the digital soundtrack, avatars to use on Paradox's forum, digital artbook and wallpapers. Both are currently cheaper than Green Man Gaming.

Battletech will be released next Tuesday, April 24.

EDIT: Forgot the link.

The most fun I had recently with Mecha suits was with Planetside 2 Heavy Armor and shooting down aircraft from a platform.

Comes out tomorrow looks ok I mean you have Robot Wars out there which basically caught on wildfire in the mobile market.

Tomorrow noon. Tomorrow Noon. Tomorrow Noon. Hum. Did I mention Tomorrow noon ?

ANZAC public holiday tomorrow which is on a Wednesday. Decided to take annual leave for the rest of the week to play this :D

guess I will buy even though PGI gets some of the $

just hold my nose and do it, been playing since the wireframe days

Well, the Battletech/Mechwarrior game series (which originated on tabletop during the 1980s) is much older than "Super Robot Wars" (which is what I think you're referring to) and has a much richer lore for storylines, as well as future developments, DLCs, sequels, etc.
Also, Mechwarrior Online (MWO) left a sour taste in some folks' mouths (I kinda like how MWO is now, actually). Admittedly, that is an entirely different genre of game (FPS), one in which the upcoming Mechwarrior 5 is expected to remedy, to some extent.
Next, this isn't a game for the mobile market (at least, not at the present time).
Finally, between the success of MechCommander 2 (2001) and the failure of Mechwarrior Tactics (2013-2014) is a long time, which (hopefully) this game will fulfill.
I pre-ordered, and am looking forward to the release tomorrow -- that the background lore of this game (so far) has been well integrated into the existing lore is a good sign.

Side note: part of me wants to go back to my 4K TV, just to see the quality of the meshes in this game (a la Fallout 4, which seemed to need not only the High Resolution Texture Pack, but also the ReShade Pack Mod, and the HD Reworked Project Mod, to make it visually acceptable by current AAA game standards).

I may be a little excited about this game as these sit atop the bookshelf beside my rig. Pre-loading now. Also ... damn I need to paint the other 3 mechs soon.

With a bit of luck, hopefully you can paint the Unseen soon :)

don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing MWO, it's just the company are absolute asshats, not going to invest my time, emotion or money in that

PC Gamer says there are difficulty spikes that could prevent one from taking risks, otherwise praises the game for taking the best aspects of MechWarrior and XCOM and marrying them together. Some people in the comments are reporting that 21:9 support was removed in the final release...

I'm enjoying it so far. Got to the Argo, got a little overconfident with my moves, lost the blackjack and all my guys are hurt.

can anyone report if widescreen is working? running 5760x1080 here

The game is possibly just shy of incredible: it's everything I could've asked for in a turn-based game, and more, with excellent lore, tooltips galore (yet perfectly placed), and super intense action (I very nearly lost the original Argo fight due to a really stupid strategy of mine, and eked out a win at the very end). Cutscenes feature lovely moving art, and the art direction is superb, indeed. Your "command ship" features Starcraft 2 style interactive interface, but with some nice RPG elements in the well-placed and detailed dialogue. I'll write up a more formal review sometime in the future.

As for widescreen? Doesn't work properly on my 3440x1440 (16:9 ratio), but is ok on 2560x1440 (bars on left and right sides, though). The devs have acknowledged that, and will be fixing that issue in a future patch.

This game rocks. It's really a lot of fun and it's so great to be back to blowing shit up real good. I highly recommend this to anyone, even those that aren't Battletech fans.

Yeah this game is fucking good. Played for hours yesterday.

I'm a battletech fan and already know what everything does, it's probably a big learning curve otherwise. PPC does what? Definitely worth it to learn though.

Also had 2 CTDs with the latest nvidia driver, reverted and haven't gotten any since. One of those CTDs was after I headshotted a big enemy. Goddamnit.

mini-review:
It's XCOM style but that's only a comparison for folks that have never played Battletech. It's Battletech style.

At first it seems the game doesn't have a lot of frills. The single-player campaign isn't really voice acted or 3d animated, they use hand-drawn art instead of 3d rendered cutscenes, you can see that corners were cut. But the gameplay is there. Combat is the draw and it's really good. Lots of tactics from the tabletop game are viable here: death from above (literally jumping on a target and letting gravity and your tonnage do the work), long range sniping (long range missiles dont need line of sight, they fire in a high arc), jumping to exploit facing (you can run or jump behind a target and shoot the weaker armor in the back), and fast movement as a way to avoid attacks.

Combat can also be swingy, just like the tabletop game. You can kill or die way faster than you expect by a lucky shot. Ammunition can be hit and explode, taking away a body part with it. Your pilots can be injured and die, suddenly. All damage you take is essentially permanent, since it costs time and money to repair anything. A cautious approach is definitely favored - careful movement and deliberate positioning instead of rushing in, exploiting range advantages, 'pulling' enemies into the battle of your choice. And without spoilers, sometimes the game won't let you be cautious - shit hits the fan, and if you weren't careful already it's going to be really bad.

Outside of combat you manage the whole mech company. You get full control of salvage inventory, repair/refit and scavenge mechs, trade for parts, hire pilots (who earn XP and perks, get a salary and can die), choose missions and negotiate their pay before accepting (with 3 rewards to prioritize: money/salvage/rep), and everything is linked to a timeline. It takes days or weeks to repair a mech or for an injured pilot to recover, and the bills still come monthly. Travel isn't instant either, it can take 2 weeks to get to a new planet for your next mission, which might give time to repair a mech from the last battle.

Only maybe an 1.5 hours in but game is of course fantastic. I have however had 1 CTD yet the game was still running just wasnt able to tab back to it. Audio kept playing. I'm sure they'll fix these soon it's just 24 hours or so of release.

I heard the game can be quite long with lots of waiting for movements and actions. Is that still the case?

I didn't find it particularly long (due to good pacing in the game), but that may depend on your rig. Turns went rapidly, more often than not. If anything, I thought it was on the quicker side of things. There are options in-game to speed up the movement actions, though.

As for bugs (besides the widescreen issue), I haven't had any.

There are some settings to reduce some of those waits. For example they have a cinematic camera view, like xcom, for various actions. I find that annoying. You can turn them off or change how often it happens.
Even after that I think some will find it slow. I don't but I'm an old tabletop player and played games that lasted days.

So far this is giving me exactly what I have been wanting for years in a BattleTech game. I like the Mechwarrior games as well, but turn based like this is by far my favorite.
My only regret right now is I didn't fork out the money for the jacket backer level.

That is good to hear, this was the review I heard about the slow issues. Otherwise, I have heard mostly good reviews and was planning on picking this up soon. I almost went in on the kickstarter. I love XCOM and I liked the Mechcommander games. I also played the original Battltech computer game back in the old days as well as the tabletop.

That review seems to just not enjoy the game much and pins it on turn time, but I think the game moves at a fine pace while commanding mechs on the ground. I have more issues with loading time between missions and loading saves, even though the game is on an SSD.

This game is spectacular.

If you're a fan of Battletech/Mechwarrior (the OG Mechwarrior tabletop game, not necessarily the video games) this is about as good as it will ever get.

If you're a fan of the recent X-Com remakes, this plays similar to it in a very broad sense.

Honestly this is one of the best tactical turn based games i've played in a very long time. You don't have to be a fan of battletech or mechs to like it.

It has some performance issues - But the game itself is really well done and fun.

Yeah, I think so. I loved that game.

Okay though, can someone please tell me how the fuck you get a mech out of storage? I would think you would click on the + sign that represents the empty slot but nothing happens. In storage I only see my partial mechs, but I have multiple complete mechs I can't find.
I see other people asking online, I know I'm not alone dammit, lol

Click on the "Storage" tab in your Mech Bay, then go to the Mech you want to take out of storage, and click "Ready".

Also, if you have completed Mech(s) (and your Mech Bay has room for them), the completed Mech(s) will show up in the "Bays" tab.

As usual, after you complete a mission, if you have enough parts to rebuild a Mech, you will get a blurb from Yang describing what the completed Mech can do. That only happens when you have all 3 Mech parts -- keep in mind that within a specific chassis (like, say, the Shadow Hawk), there are different models.
So, you can have 2 parts of one model of Shadow Hawk, and 1 part of another Shadow Hawk model (for example, the 2D and 2H variants of the Shadow Hawk), and still not have a complete Shadow Hawk.

Also, kneecapping/legcapping is the easiest and fastest way to get all 3 parts of a Mech -- use the Called Shot ability to do that.

Finally, if none of the above applies to you, you probably have a bug.

Hope this helps!
