Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I did notice you online yeah, I was with a friend messing around with Cyclones on Levski. Here are some highlights of our shenanigans that night lol. We were driving them on top of the huge hangar doors and waiting till someone spawned a ship so the doors would open and rain down all those parked vehicles on them. :D

We managed to form a full conga line but the hangars bugged out and wouldn't spawn ships lol :(

Thats funny lol.

The stutters you're experiencing are due to memory leaks which are causing hard drive access to your page file hence the stuttering. The devs are aware of it and have fixed a few of them and are working on more fixes (in 3.1.2c things are much improved). And yeah interdiction randomness can still end up causing you to be interdicted too often which can be annoying.

Annoying, I noticed it happening as well a bit when the random good / pirate AI ships would spawn all over the place. I may tinker with moving my page file off my windows SSD to my program SSD. Games are on a separate SSD.

Not gonna happen any time soon. Trading was nerfed on purpose because people were ignoring missions almost completely due to how profitable cargo hauling was. They also fixed an exploit by removing the ability to sell back commodities to the place you bought them from.

Yeah just blah. It was overly stacked for you to earn UEC. But they took it too far the other way :( I know they want us to play missions but they dont have them refreshing fast enough typically. Still finding some random issues on planets and in aspects of cargo so they could ask for focus in one area while not screwing with everything else.

Right now the Mercenary combat mission that has you patrol the Yela asteroid belt killing pirates is the most profitable one. You get 540 credits per mission and best of all it can be completed by multiple people accepting it together. Either multiple people on a single ship (turret gunners coming along with you) or multiple separate ships.

When you start doing missions you will notice the "General" missions tab offering few missions or sometimes be totally empty. That is already fixed and the number of missions offered and how often they are spawned has been greatly increased in 3.1.2c

I did that one a few times in 3.0, its the one I hope to get in as it was fun but I have not yet seen it available :(

If you crashed to desktop when you relaunch the game you get a blue prompt asking you if you want to rejoin your previous session similar to a service beacon prompt. The few times I tested it the PTU, it worked. Bed logout also works, tried it on a Cutlass with cargo/325a/Freelancer/Constellation. There is a bug tho that in some beds your character gets out on the wrong side and you end up clipping inside the internal geometry of the ship and take damage. They are aware of it tho and are working to fix that.

So far my crash was to the main menu, there was an option to do something but it said bad token error and tried to reload the instance but failed. I think I've only hard crashed once so far but I've only played 4 times :(. So far the 3.1.2 updates and feedback seems mostly positive. Looking forward to it.

I am also glad advanced controls are working for me this time around. Wish they would make that selection easier and more simple but eh.

Doing Bounty Hunting missions (killing both NPCs and Players) lead directly to unlocking Miles Eckart and with persistence once you unlock him he will always offer you missions every time you log on.

Nice, I tried for two hours tonight but man it was rough. Went out to a crashed Starfarer to try and find the beacon but kept colliding with walls and things then someone blew my ship up :(

Tried to run a cargo package for someone and got the 30000 crash.
Accepted the Yela rings hunting pirates mission which finally showed up, launched my ship to find it was not in my accepted missions.
Took one to turn off a comms array so I could shoot at stuff. Turned it off, full wanted level (ouch) got to shoot some stuff but didnt get far as 30000 hit again.
Got in my 85x for a quick run to Kareah, interdicted three times and the bad lag outs caused me to crash into a Caterpillar and blow up.
Got Cellin this time but the orbital markers were gone so I had to jump to an array and then back to Kareah.
Landed and got blown off the pad by security ships or a player, not sure which, managed to salvage my ship and land again running inside.
Spent 15 minutes watching the terminals do nothing. Still full wanted level and then 30000 error :(

The ships I lost tonight or that got blown up lol: Super Hornet, Aurora LN, Aurora MR, 85x, Hornet, Prospector. Really crappy performance tonight. PC can more than handle the game but ouch. Servers were crowded and may need a reboot. Oh well.

I'll have to try the bounty hunting ones but missions were almost non existent again in the 2 hours I played tonight :(

Free Fly extended 2 more days

Nice, don't think they'll fix performance in time to be able to try anything though. Logged in tonight and 3 of my ships spawn with no gear and are not able to be interacted with. Terrible FPS at Olisar and micro studders all over the place still. Looks like I'll have to wait until 3.2 :( 3.0 was nice, not great but at least I could play at around 25 to 30 FPS fairly consistently without crashing.

It has always depended on what time zone you play and if you've learned to take advantage of the time differential.

During US or EU primetime hours it is best to avoid your own region's servers because it is obvious they are swamped. During US primetime (7PM-11PM) the best place to play is EU because for them it's 1-5AM meaning their servers have a lot less people playing. The difference is at least 10fps average higher.
On Sunday I dragged a whole bunch of Free Flyers(about 6) into an EU server where a friend was that had only 7 people when I joined, they piled in behind me. I don't think we had more than 30 people total in that server. We enjoyed mid 50s average fps with 40 minimums, Levski was at 60fps. I've spent a couple days teaching that to every Free Flyer I've encountered.

If you are from EU I'd say the best servers to go play during your primetime are AUS ones cause it'll be like 3-4AM for AUS.

Muahahaha, there is no penalty for a bounty hunter for killing a civilian that's harboring a criminal in their ship/vehicle.

Now that's funny!
My new gaming rig is done bleeding and patching (WC loop & new OS), can't wait to play!

Are you a Hotas or dual stick person?

I'm using Keyboard and Mouse for the moment for the simple reason that things are constantly being refined, tweaked and added to the game. When they add a new game mechanic or make improvements to the flight system there are usually a new set of default binds associated with it and that renders any custom control settings you may have worked on obsolete due to conflicts. Keyboard and mouse controls well enough and I plan to stick with it until things are more permanent and I simply export/save a few custom binds that I regularly use and named it "Quickbinds".

Hotas setups are fully supported tho with built in profiles. From there you can further customize things to your liking

I eventually plan on going dual stick as it gives you superior control over your ship. There will be a learning curve with it as your brain needs to get used to it first but once you master it you won't go back.

I bounce between EU and US depending on when I get on. Tonight on US it was not too bad. Got on late enough I figured people would be in bed and the FPS was on average at 30 to 40 which is more than fine. Its the dips and lag outs that kill me :( The trolls too but thats another issue lol. Auto landing gear needs to die in hell, as does auto cry astro buy menu. Both almost got my killed from pirate jerks. I killed 2 but the third probably one as I hard crashed after doing a lot of damage to him. Lost one of my wings though.

auto cry astro buy menu

I actually LOVE that because you dont have to physically land on the pad. You can simply hover above it click the repair icons and accept and you're ready to take off and continue combat.

I just swoop in, click the icons quick, accept and take off in less than 10-15 seconds lol

I don't follow the development of this game too much. I just got my package a long time ago, and I'm just patiently waiting for it to be released. I pop in here to see what people are saying and to occasionally ask questions. Here's a question for you based on what I quoted: how much time must be spent actually walking around bases/stations? Will I actually be forced to get out of my ship every time I land for start/finish missions, to trade, or for any ship maintenance needs?

how much time must be spent actually walking around bases/stations?
That depends on how well you know the layout of the stations, where the ship spawming terminals are, where are the landing pads to get to your ship once you've spawned it and if you have an optimized/efficient route to walk to them. All of this eventually becomes second nature the longer you play.

Will I actually be forced to get out of my ship every time I land for start/finish missions
Not at all. Once you get in your ship and accept a mission or multiple missions you can simply stay in your ship and jump from location to location accepting more missions as you finish others.

It also depends on the types of missions you accept. If for example you start doing a bunch of delivery/pickup missions you'll be going down to the surface of a moon or a space station to pick an actual physical item, place it in your ship then fly out of that moon or station and then to the final delivery location which can be in the same moon, another moon, or one of the major ports/stations.

To trade yes. If you are carrying cargo in your ship and wish to sell it you will have to land at the location you wish to sell it and go to a trade terminal inside the outpost/stations.

or for any ship maintenance needs?
For maintenance you go to a service station orbiting near the dark side of the gas giant and there are some landing pads for ships there and bots come out to repair/restock/refuel you. This is the CryAstro station we were talking about and I was describing a trick to save some time by simply hovering over those pads pad withoput actually landing and that triggers the menu to select what you wish to repair.

Fake edit: I recorded this a few days ago showing a typical mission run from spawn to finish with one of the unlockable NPC quest givers. There is a whole journey consisting of a variety of missions that leads to unlocking him

After I complete that mission you can see in my mission manager there are quite a number of other available missions and I can just accept any of them while I'm out in space. But like I said it depends on the type of mission where you are sent to. If you don't feel like going down to the surface of moons and just want missions that keep you flying then combat assistance/escort/bounty hunting missions are ideal. I personally like those as well becuase it keeps me in the air without the "downtime" of traveling down to the surface of a moon. But even some Bounty hunting/Mercenary missions have you hunt down targets near the surface sometimes like in the screenshots a few posts above

P.S: And I haven't even talked about player generated missions via the Service Beacon system. In the first iteration that was released in 3.1 anyone can create a service beacon requesting Transport from one location to another or Combat Assistance at any location. The payment is automatically deducted from your balance once the person who responded to your beacon completes the required tasks.

Once the repair/refuel/rearm game mechanics are implemented they'll also be integrated to the service beacon system so you could have people come to YOUR location to refuel/repair you instead of you having to go to an actual service station.

Mining UI work in progress

The goal as a player is to maintain a sustained power level from the mining lasers going into the rock/deposit so that you generate a controlled breakup/explosion to collect the most materials out of it.

Pump too much uncontrolled power and the rock/deposit can explode with too much force causing you to lose the rock/deposit as well as potentially damaging your ship. No AFK mining in this game.

SQ42 update

So we'll see an official SC benchmark utility in 20-never?

This is a travesty. Glass reflection tech?

NO. No sir, just gimme the god damn game!

This is the kind of nonsense that perpetuates the idea of ppl at HQ jerking off instead of putting in decent hours..

I invested in this so long ago, i thought og SLI Titan's would murder it come release.

I was ready, twin sticks and all. But this is absolutely bonkers.

Nightime combat over Daymar from the perspective of players on the ground. The fighting broke out during a Rally on Daymar race a french org had organized.

So it seems the Idris may be coming sooner than expected. It was first scheduled to be released in AC 3.0 when the FPS module merged with Arena Commander in the Capture the Idris game mode. Well it seems like the release has been moved up to AC 2.0 when the multicrew ships go live. The ship is waiting for the game engine 64-bit switch over (you need double precision to track a target of that size and be able to hit the internal components of the ship with the same fidelity as the smaller ships).

Don't mind me, just reliving some of this threads glory days.

Anyone planning on trying to make citizencon this year? Trying to decide if I shoukd grab a Ticket.

Unfortunately I've no time to get away. The new format with interactive stations and 1 on 1's with the devs from last time was a huge hit, can't wait to see what they do this year.

Starfarer (peeking on the left) is no longer the big boy. Reclaimer is just freaking massive, look at the Cyclone and the human next to it.

I was able to grab a premium ticket. Not 100% sure if I'll make it or not though. If i do hopefully I'll remember to bring some stuff to sign this time. I was so out of it when i went to Manchester i didnt bring a damn thing and was drunk and awake for i dont know how long lol.

Its a good and bad thing its on a Wednesday this year. Ill have to see what hotels are available when i get home tonight. Hopefully it works out though.

Damn you got lucky, premium tickets have been selling quick. One batch of 150 tickets literally sold out in 30 seconds lol.

Yeah make plans early 'cause Austin City Limits music festival is gonna start on Friday the 5th and the following weekend. You could even make an entire weekend out of it if you can make the time to stay for it.

https://www.aclfestival.com/

Just having Metallica, Deftones and Arctic Monkeys in the lineup makes it an instant win in my book.

Edit: Main reason for Wednesday is 'cause it's October 10th. The game was announced on that same day and in the same city during GDC Online Austin, TX.

Will be interesting to see groups bring two or more into an area to strip mine larger ships or deselects quickly. Or to see them as part of larger fleets moving around. Thats a good shot of Levski as well. I wont go back out there if I can help it until the fix the elevators lol. Got stuck there once for 15 minutes while I fiddled with ship spawning and traveling down till finally it triggered a door to reset and let me spawn in a working hanger and bugger off hah.

Interesting,. May need to tapk to my friend about that. I was wondering why the prices jumped this far out. Grabbed a hotel for the night anyway.

Also the trick to getting the tickets is prefilled forms and using paypal and maybe amazon as the payment provider as it creates the sale right away so you can fill in the card info later. I was able to do it all on my phone using chrome and as soon as i got done i went back to the original page and still say 50-60 tickets available. So its definitely quicker, on the plus side my credit card is giving me 5% back on purchases made through PayPal haha.

New Starlifter concept ship. Three variants. Big. They can carry two of the ground tanks or variable amounts of cargo depending on variant choice. Not cheap though.

OMG it's still alpha don't you know anything about game development, it's probably your fault for being in the wrong time zone.
