The soon-to-be released survival horror game Agony, has been gearing up for publication for a couple of years, and is now getting closer to launch, but has been put through the grinder by the censors, at least for you console plebs. Looks as though the PlayWay devs had to clean up their act, just a little, to get a M rating instead of an "AO" (Adults Only). AO means that your title will not make it to XBone and PS4. Don't worry however, the PC Master Race will get a patch that will show you all the bit that you might otherwise miss. Even the unwashed masses will have the option to change their Kickstarter pledge to the proper format if you previously made a bad choice. You might want to wait for the VR version that is promised later if you are of the exalted HMD type.. The trailer video is likely NSFW.

Check out the video.

We also want to confirm that we are preparing a special, optional patch for PC that will remove the aforementioned "censorship". We would love to do something similar for consoles but from a technical and legal point of view it is simply not possible. With that in mind, we decided that backers who have bought the console version of Agony will be able to convert it into a PC version. Details on how to do this will be provided soon in the next update, here on Kickstarter.

Hmm, what a nice little game to share with the Mormon missionaries that volunteer at the soup kitchen I help out at.....
Maybe they'll bring it to date night at the temple. lol

PLEBS ARE NEEDED PLEBS ARE NEEDED PLEBS ARE NEEDED PLEBS ARE NEEDED PLEBS ARE NEEDED

Every time I read/hear the word 'plebs' this is all I can think of. Fortunately the word doesn't get used very often.

Console users obviously cannot make good purchasing decisions, so the decision needs to be made for them.

I guess anyone can own a console, and only adults (or near adults) can own a nice gaming PC. PC owners are assumed to be more intelligent and make better decisions when purchasing games.

I want more AO games. I'm an adult (hee hee!) and enjoy playing all kinds of games. AO games (non-porn) would really round that out a bit. I'm more interested now than I was before.

It boils down to this, Consoles while having parental controls don't have the amount of control that PC's do in this instance. Combine that with the fact that many parents are retarded and don't read ratings when it comes to console games, it is a smart move to avoid the inevitable furor that would come from the idiot parent associations. I cannot tell you how many parents I've encountered who simply do not bother to educate themselves one bit and utter statements like "Any game on a console is for kids". As a gamer and a parent..it takes every bit of willpower I possess not to choke them on the spot.

Take a few hits of LSD and load up the VR version!
Hehe, full meth histeria or go home.

Seriously, have you played any of the horror VR stuff? HOLY SHIT. I can't handle it. I will seriously injure myself with those titles.

I dont get it. Kids can kill kill kill, shoot, behead, rob, steal, etc etc but as soon as a game adds some boob and butt, its adult only. lol

with that said though, I must be a bad parent because unless a horror survival game consists of chase the evil butterflies, my kids aren't anywhere near mature enough to play them. lol

Yeah but will it be good? This could just be another terrible game like BMX XXX which was on consoles.

Remember the cgi series Reboot, late 90's and mono-boobs, elder sister can't kiss younger brother on the cheek, ect ect ect, they even did an episode making fun of the censors.

Most games that rely heavily on controversy aren't that great. Hopefully this one is a decent game, too. I figure I'll wait for some reviews first.

Yeah, hopefully...the organic gun kinda reminds me of eXistenZ.

I wouldn't even contemplate playing Agony without gutteral metal playing in the background. Appears Agony borders on the edge of insanity with a literal hands on approach.

Game play didn't look like anything exciting...

It seems a bit plodding from what I've seen. Twisted, mildly interesting in some ways, but it doesn't excite me as much as say the new Doom news. It looks like it could be fun, but I'll have to wait and see what people say. If the game play ends up living up to spectacle, then maybe I'll give it a whirl. As some have mentioned, Scorn seems like it has the potential to be the better game. We'll see though.

Now I know why I kept falling asleep using my PS4. The coating of dust on it is quite thick now.

I am completely again censorship in all forms save one - self-induced censorship. The moment I watched a playthrough video of Agony that showed a demon taking a baby, laying it on a brick and then crushing its skull with another brick, then continuing to do this because it was using the babies as mortar for the wall I immediately said to myself, "This is not healthy for me. I should not watch or play this game."

This was on a 6 x 4 inch Youtube video window. I can only imagine the nightmare fuel that would be induced by VR.

They talk about how VR can induced actual physical memories of places you have never visited. In my experience with VR, it's absolutely true. I'd prefer not to have a memory of Hell, fictional or otherwise.
NSFW.

Yeah, that's not really my thing either. I love id games, (and similar styles) and their depictions of violent hell-scapes, but Agony is a bit over the top for my tastes. I hadn't seen the above, and still haven't thanks to someone describing it. I'll probably give this a pass.

I'm all for violence in games, but more between badass heroes and demons or robots, or demon robots, aliens, alien-demon-robots, etc. and not so much anything to do with babies/children. (though I'll happily fire a few rounds into those baby-demon things from Doom 3, and also Alma from F.E.A.R.) :D

I'm another one who just doesn't need those sort of images running through my head. My head can be a weird enough place as it is without that kind of thing.

It kinda reeks of desperation for shock value like a teenager wearing a shirt which says "EdgeLord" with a skull on it.

I think the game looks pretty bad ass. Definitely some trippy shit, but I could get into it.

Not so much, I've ventured into dark places in my mind for my own meditative reasons, and expressed them in art because I found it beautiful in a horribly ugly way. Sometimes these disgusting, shocking things are a necessary part of art representing what reality can't, what reality shouldn't expose.

sounds like perfect reasoning to cover up being a huge deviant.
