Microsoft has updated its Microsoft Services Agreement today, with one of the new policies banning "offensive language" on it's services. The new changes go into effect May 1st, and cover all Microsoft services including, Skype, and Xbox Live. So think twice the next time you want to call Cortana some horrible names.

While Microsoft does not outline what it deems "offensive language," it does clarify it will dig through all the data it has stored in order to determine if you are guilty. Stating:

When investigating alleged violations of these Terms, Microsoft reserves the right to review Your Content in order to resolve the issue. However, we cannot monitor the entire Services and make no attempt to do so.

I seriously doubt that this will have any effect at all, it is more like a cyoa type of thing. After all, do you really think they will ban all the 12 year old's with bad language skills? :D

If I thought this would cut down on the diarrhoea coming from some offensive people's mouths, I might be on board, but the context is impossible for this system to interpret.

*throws grenade... Bounces back*
"Fucking hel...(so and so banned)"

If I put Cortana back into working order and do nothing but curse raw obscenities in the process of forcing Cortana to do my will, I wonder if Microsoft will revoke my access to Cortana by properly removing that f-ing bitch from my system?:rage::eek::punch::dead:

Follow-up question: Does this mean Microsoft will be scanning Outlook users mail or use of Office 365 for potential use that would be in violation of their new, even more, P.C. and S.J.W. friendly TOU? #SnowflakesOfEveryColorSexAndPoliticalAffiliationUnite

-Did I break the hashtag hasher with a tag that couldn't be hashed...huuuush!

How is Microsoft monitoring for bad words on their services and also not monitoring people's medical information they store on those services, which is a federal HIPAA violation punishable by prison?
But they are... And making sure they sell them to the highest bidder...

And the problem with using services that exist on the cloud. They can and will be filtered because it's more profitable that way.
Those services won't be profitable if enough individual users and companies abandon them due to the potential breaches of privacy.;)

I suspect this isn’t going to be a proactively enforced rule and more likely enforced on basis of reporting. At which point after being reported X amount of time they’ll monitor your account for a period of time and swing the banhammer.

Hopefully it also just flags certain moments for a real person to make the final judgement based on the context. Red light camera style. (I’ve had a few flashes behind me and never received anything. My reasoning behind that example.)

YES. There currently is the news floating around that indeed they are. Cancel your office 365 now. Fucking sjw infestation. Never thought they'd get ground in MS. They're supposed to provide a product, not force indoctrination.

Ah, the old news is floating around stuff, just because someone says so. I prefer proof but hey, since when is accusing MS of things require actual, verifiable proof. I know, I must be a white knight because I do not let others do the thinking for me. Good luck.

It won't last, or it won't matter. One of the two. Blizzard tried to do the same thing in World of Warcraft, but when they started getting 2,000,000 tickets a day from people reporting other players they suddenly realized how inadequate their customer support staff was and how much money they would lose from subscriptions by enforcing the policy.

Now you can say pretty much whatever you want. Blizzard only cares if your actions might affect their bottom line.

Now I will make sure to tell any cortana enabled device to self fornicate after breeding with a goat.

Hopefully this will be the case for Xbox Live and such too. At least proper british insults show you have good and clever language skills unlike the "F*** YOUR MUM!" screeching that is all the rage with 12 year olds.

so if i tell cortana to go fuck herself will she disable herself?

This is actually due to a law congress passed recently: http://fortune.com/2018/03/27/sex-trafficking-law-fosta-sesta-backpage/

Google is already doing something similar to what Microsoft just announced, it just showed up as a different article on HardOCP: https://hardforum.com/threads/sex-w...uddenly-disappearing.1957122/#post-1043554209

You'll probably be seeing this pop up more and more with different providers over time.
Finally someone who gets it.

If this happened in the previous administration, HAH! I already saw mentions of the "SJW", think about that again.

I've been stocking up on single player games for the moment that "I am too old for this shit." happens.

Does this mean that if you curse at Cortana often enough, Microsoft freewillingly stops spying what you say? Perfect!
