Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

Yeah it kinda boils down to how much will you mind dealing with a separate installation of the game plus all the caveats and restrictions regarding access to the new content being tested.

Personally speaking, I'm a tinkerer, I approach games looking for ways to break them or do things the developers never intended using the built in mechanics. So I see getting early access to builds with new mechanics often broken or not fully functional also as an advantage because once things are working as the devs intended I will know WHY and HOW something is or can be broken and I can adjust my gameplay to compensate/avoid issues or even benefit from it.

Ya, eventually they're gonna replace Port Olisar with one of those.

Ever since that became the word I have hoped they would leave it, maybe not inits full central position and role now but move it off somewhere else and leave it be for nostalgia and such. It's been a good home and deserves more than the trash can :p

Yeah maybe it'll become similar to Covalex station and they can create missions to go there.

Edit: New Yela ice shader coming in 3.1

3.1 is out for evocati

Reclaimer is a beast, look at the human next to it lol (images are not mine)

Is it going to take them another 6 months to test 3.1? Last time I checked the current build is still a crash-fest, so the only thing moving forward is the check-box for "3.1." Even EA doesn't take this long to fix bugs in their most broken online titles.

Not to mention, Bind Culling keeps getting pushed from 3.0 to 3.1 and now 3.2. Which means those 10-20fps gaming sessions are something you should get used to.

Compared to every previous major release, the players online have dropped like a cliff in a way shorter period of time. That says something about 3.0 to me, other than it being pretty.

I can post pretty pictures of my own!

3.0 is all hype, bugs and zero depth. And NEW FEATURE: eats 16GB of ram OR MORE! It's definitely taking the game in the wrong direction, NOT keeping players hooked...on an MMO :D

Absolutely stunningly spectacular! But does it look that good in-game yet? When I build a new rig in coming year or two (as long as it doesn't require fast internet for play outside of downloading updates), I'll be keen to give this a hoon if they get it closer to completion.

Yes that is an actual in-game shot. I'll take some shots from the 3.1 PTU in a bit

New PTU patch tonight adds the Reclaimer and Terrapin.

I'm trying to figure out how the big grinder works and how the material gets moved from the front of the ship to the back. I can't find a way into the big grinder room yet so can't tell where the exit is lol.

Got 3.1 installed, pretty laggy and lots of stuttering. The detail is amazing and always blows me away, but damn they really gotta fix that netcode.

From latest patch tonight. Initial performance is better, managed to complete a couple of beacons with a friend before he called it a night with 40-50+fps throughout. Performance did drop off and settled in the 30s-20s

Well, that's what happens with buggy code. It runs fine when two people are on the server just after the server reset, and then settles down to it's true performance after a few hours of running with multiple players.

Star Citizen works fine as a two-player game, maybe they should change the game from an MMO to a two-player split-screen?

That server had 38/50 people when I joined my friend lol

New patch tonight Reclaimers re-enabled.

Also did some exploring at Levski. Loaded an Ursa and Cyclone in a Gemini and went to a crater. Drove the vehicles about a kilometer away then flew the ship and loaded them in.

Well, my first experience with 3.1 last night was a complete disappointment. Performance was horrid and someone jacked my Reclaimer before I could even get to the pad.

Played for an hour tonight. Had one bad lag out which it recovered from after about 30 seconds. Had one or two more smaller 5 second lag outs and maybe 12 or so FPS dips to the teens mostly while I was low flying the surface of Yela.

The rest of the time I had 45 to 55 FPS average. Interdiction is still annoying in frequency and absurdity but not as bad as my only time in 3.0.1. The random empty interdiction ones are odd and I still find it funny to be interdicted by only Cats lol. More funny when I get crime stat for downing them since they stopped a lone super hornet as cargo ships hah.

Overall though performance was the best I have had for this long of a time since we first had anything to "play", Hanger Module. I just hope it lasts. Didnt really do anything with all the crash reports and such on Spectrum. Maybe I'll give some cargo and beacons a run tomorrow. Hopefully I can also assign the advanced controls and have those work too lol.

I think they should have left this in all backer PTU for one more week and released it next weekend after continuing the patch work. They were cranking the fixes out and there seem to be a few more issues worth fixing before calling it done and moving on to 3.2. Though if this is what 3.1 is I'll be happy with it provided it lasts.

I forgot to check the server settings and I dont know where it sent me but the FPS was not so hot tonight. About 26 average with some bad dips. Still playable and no crashes or interdiction's tonight. Quick cargo run in the Aurora LN. Was hoping to make more but oh well. Will have to fly the bigger ships soon and find the less occupied servers lol. I also need to test if the advanced controls will take and work this time around.

Tried 3.1.

Walking - almost perfect imitation of real life walking/running. Almost. But for a game I would not want that. For a game I'd like more arcade-y movement that does not give me motion sickness. I want to play a hero, not some clumsy meatbag.

Interactions with things - pressing F and then hunting with mouse cursor for things to interact seems a very backward "innovation". Very clumsy because FPS drops to single digits by some reason. I guess the wall/panels have to be displayed in extra detail?

NPCs - very pretty walking/standing/sitting meatbags with 10000 yard stare. Still noticeably spin around Z axis to make turns on their paths and slide-step.

Mo-capped time-wasters (opening a door, sitting down in the pilot seat) are seriously annoying and once again give bad motion sickness.

So overall it has a serious case of being beautiful but unusable/retarded.

Been spending way too much time in game.

3.1.2b is on PTU with improved persistence so if your game crashes or disconnect you'll be returned to your ship when you reconnect and your cargo will also be saved.

Pro tip: Do not land a Reclaimer on Daymar, it won't be able to escape its gravitational pull lol

Funny you mention that because land claims should be coming with 3.4 by the end of the year. :D

Riding the Cyclones in 4K felt like a freaking scene from Star Wars with the hump of the Reclaimer looking like the Jawas' Sandcrawler. The screenshots really don't do it justice.

Good, I played on a server with you over the weekend and it was choppy as hell lol. Last night I got on a server and my avatar got out of bed to 100 FPS . Took off from Olisar at 80 FPS.
Sadly the studders from all the random AI spawns and interdiction things are killing the smoothness for me but it is a lot of fun.

I hope they make the economy a little more stacked towards how it was in 3.0 for cargo (not quite as bad but a full haul netting only 70 EU is a bit lame). Going to try some missions and combat next time I get on.

Loving the update and the feel overall is so much better with the shaders / lighting. Fix the studders and get more servers holding 40 to 60 FPS and it will be golden.

How do you like the Terrapin Lorien? Was so tempted to get one but need to hold off on more ships lol.

Cant wait to rejoin sessions, had the bug (forget the name of it) that insta closes the mobi glass and renders most controls inoperable so I lost what little was left of my money. A few crashes and players killing me while trying to put together a video for cargo lost the other portion lol.

I did notice you online yeah, I was with a friend messing around with Cyclones on Levski. Here are some highlights of our shenanigans that night lol. We were driving them on top of the huge hangar doors and waiting till someone spawned a ship so the doors would open and rain down all those parked vehicles on them. :D

We managed to form a full conga line but the hangars bugged out and wouldn't spawn ships lol :(

The stutters you're experiencing are due to memory leaks which are causing hard drive access to your page file hence the stuttering. The devs are aware of it and have fixed a few of them and are working on more fixes (in 3.1.2c things are much improved). And yeah interdiction randomness can still end up causing you to be interdicted too often which can be annoying.

Not gonna happen any time soon. Trading was nerfed on purpose because people were ignoring missions almost completely due to how profitable cargo hauling was. They also fixed an exploit by removing the ability to sell back commodities to the place you bought them from.

Right now the Mercenary combat mission that has you patrol the Yela asteroid belt killing pirates is the most profitable one. You get 540 credits per mission and best of all it can be completed by multiple people accepting it together. Either multiple people on a single ship (turret gunners coming along with you) or multiple separate ships.

When you start doing missions you will notice the "General" missions tab offering few missions or sometimes be totally empty. That is already fixed and the number of missions offered and how often they are spawned has been greatly increased in 3.1.2c

How do you like the Terrapin Lorien? Was so tempted to get one but need to hold off on more ships lol.

It's nice as a "getting around" ship because the gameplay behind it, scanning, is still being worked on. I've used it to make money ferrying people from place to place answering transport beacons like a party bus lol. You can fit quite a few players in it.
Oh and I didn't buy it, I just got it from being a subscriber along with all the other newly released ships until the 23rd. I only subscribed for this month to take advantage of that perk (the $20 tier if you're wondering).

If you crashed to desktop when you relaunch the game you get a blue prompt asking you if you want to rejoin your previous session similar to a service beacon prompt. The few times I tested it the PTU, it worked.
Bed logout also works, tried it on a Cutlass with cargo/325a/Freelancer/Constellation. There is a bug tho that in some beds your character gets out on the wrong side and you end up clipping inside the internal geometry of the ship and take damage. They are aware of it tho and are working to fix that.
