Guys let's support AMD gpu, and boycott Nvidia, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI

Won't this end up making Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI's AMD cards cheaper, infact?

Seriously, think about it: if they can no longer put their prestigious branding on AMD cards, how can they ever justify charging a premium for said cards?

They'll either have to sell for less than they'd like (good for us) or try to establish a new brand through a proven track record over time (good for us).

Not that I really care since I'm not in AMD's market quite frankly. :p

I'd love to support AMD - if they'd only release a high end GPU worth buying. I currently own both Nvidia and AMD GPUs and like both but let's face it, for high res, high refresh rate gaming Nvidia is the only game in town at the moment.

My mistake, didn't know the price/performance difference was enough not to sway people from these dirty practices. I still believe this is a shit tactic by Nvidia and if it proves succesful we will all be worse off price wise and innovation in 5 years. Carry on. I'm still running a 2013 7970 card perfectly I'm not in the market for a card myself but it's food for thought.

Not going to bother with a boycott based on marketing. If AMD sold a top-end card that matched a 1080ti for a similar price you *might* have an argument, but I'm not interested in mid-tier cards.

People here will buy Nvidia if it's 1fps more and 10W less and costs $60 more, because fuck you faggots it's nvidia and it's muh superior card.
Even when AMD cards are better, they only gain a few percent of marketshare, because self concious nerds couldn't be possibly seen without an intvidia system build now, could they? When they are equal, people still flock to Nvidia because it's what apple used to be for smartphones. If you didn't have it, you weren't cool.

Maybe some people. If they were that close, AMD would be the clear price/performance wonder and I'd be in that camp.

If they were that close.

...but they're not.

But thing is everyone says that but almost no one puts their money where their mouth is.
I have bought GPUs at least 3x when this situation has arisen. X800XT, 7970 and 290X. Each time bought AMD and guess what, they were neck and neck or better at the time, then as time rolled around they got even better. 7970 stomped the titan for christs sake, I had that bitch running a 35%+ OC and it was a generation ahead! Wasn't much slower than my damn 290X DCUII. 780Ti vs 290X case in point. X800XT vs 6800U same thing.

AMD should of gone out of business many years ago. They have had so many life lines thrown to them it's stupid. Yet they keep fucking it up and fail after fail!!

I wouldn't call the launch of the Zen series processors a failure. If anything I'd say their living in the Athlon XP times. Their stock is worth roughly 6 times what it was worth a couple of years ago.

You may have a solid case if AMD is producing a card in the performance tier that is worth buying today, but they don't at the moment, with maybe the exception of Vega 56. Also, devolving into name calling never really helps your argument.

I buy whatever I can afford at the settings I want to play my games at. Doesn't matter if its Nvidia or AMD. Being cool is the last thing on my mind when I make a hardware purchase or anything really.

I can't comment on those cases, but as this thread is discussing a boycott based on current events, I'm referring to the current product stack.

Indeed, Zen processor is pretty competitive vs Intel, looking forward to see how Zen2 (Zen+) would fare.

If they were that close, I think a lot of people would be looking at AMD cards so they can give NVIDIA the finger for being assholes with their bullshit GPP. In this climate of currency mining, I think gamers would simply go with whatever they could get their hands on first, regardless of brand. Unfortunately, we aren't talking about 1FPS. We are talking about AMD's high end parts barely competing with an old top end NVIDIA card that's been surpassed by newer models at least three times.

I don't believe there are that many people who buy NVIDIA because they are ashamed to have AMD cards in their systems or out of loyalty. I think people who buy prebuilt systems who don't know much about hardware buy NVIDIA because of simple brand recognition just as they continued to buy 3DFX when they weren't top dog anymore. Coasting on brand recognition is something we've seen for several years from one brand or another. It's not enthusiasts who tend to do this as much as the average Joe who simply doesn't know any better. Sure, you always have your hardcore fanbois. However, that could be said for almost anything.

Ya I've owned AMD cards in the past but now? They are just too far behind. Drivers play another roll, I've always had more trouble with AMD drivers, particularly their OpenGL support, but mostly it is raw power. AMD has nothing that comes close to a 1080Ti sadly and I want all of the FPS all of the time. I have a 144Hz 2.5k monitor and I'd love to max it, if possible.

Fair call, it's just frustrating to see the same bullshit pan out and the same comments every time.
V56 (was) the best they had bang for buck and it likely was nearly a loss leader, that's why they were harder to find than V64s...
Plenty of people are happy with the 5xx etc. Not everyone is running a 32k 5000fps screen like [H], so outside of us [H] types, plenty of people have no problem with AMD.

I wish more people were like that but have seen many times in past people shy away because of a brand and some FUD or similar, e.g. 'AMD drivers sux' etc.

I can't comment on those cases, but as this thread is discussing a boycott based on current events, I'm referring to the current product stack.
Fair call, I'm using those historical examples because even if AMD came out tomorrow with the Navi 666 and it shat all over the titan xyz, people would still buy the titan XYZ because nvidia.

It's like comparing a Ferrari to a Koenigsegg. Koenigsegg might stomp it even for similar price in the Halo models but the masses will still rush out to buy the Ferrari, because Ferrari.

First point is spot on, now is when they need Vega 20 or whatever they are calling it. In fact there isn't a better time than March-April, whilst this is a big deal. It just needs to be close to the 1080Ti like V64, bit less power and good price.

You are right also on the pre-built joe sixpack types. But I have personally run into more than a few people who buy Nvidia/Intel because of the perception that AMD is for cheap people, or is slow, buggy, hot, sucks etc etc. Sure, there is some validity to this on certain older products, just as you can say same about Nvidia or Intel in past, but due to marketing $, people only associate AMD with the negative stuff.
Lot of people don't read [H] or similar, they read PC world or whatever and don't spend much time beyond basic FPS graphs. These people are a surprisingly large number of gamers. Console-tier PC gamers basically - they are not hardware enthusiasts, these are the people I am aiming these comments at. They will go out, be talked into buying gtx whatever, because it's a familiar green and the PC world article + salesguy told them to. In fact I bought my 290X DCUII off a guy who was 'upgrading' to a 780Ti - this is the mindset we are dealing with. Point is even when AMD is not buggy, hot, sucks etc, they don't gain massive market share, Ryzen is probably the only exception to this I can remember since Athlon days.
I guess there is also a larger number of Nvidia fanboys to contend with when they have 70% market share.

So this is about GPP but also, if AMD does bring something to the table next round for mid-higher end cards thats' worthy of purchase and praise, it's up to enthusiasts like us to inform people better regarding this too.

I do know people who prefer NVIDIA to AMD. I generally do as I've had better experiences with NVIDIA drivers over the years. That said, I've used AMD's newer drivers and wouldn't hesitate to buy an AMD card if it was within 3-5% of NVIDIA's performance and was available at a lower price. If we start talking about a performance difference beyond that, I'll go for the faster one most of the time. At 4K, I need all the performance I can get. I would like a Titan V, but $2,999 is too rich even for my blood. I'll wait for some Ti variant that will run games better at a third the price or better.

I couldn't give a shit who makes it. If that's AMD, then that's fantastic. I'll buy whatever is the fastest card I can afford at the time I'm ready to buy it.

How I feel. I would have been running a Ryzen if I waited a few more months but I built a 7700k, I honestly thought it was going to be bulldozer 2.0 and I kinda regretted it. Since then I have recommended Ryzen to friends and coworkers over Intel if it fits their needs.

As for video cards... I’ve owned more ATI than Nvidia and more of both of those over AMD. This previous cycle there was nothing touching the 1080 and even when AMD answer finally hit the market I had a 1080Ti...

I will not throw my money away to support an inferior product by a multi billion company. They get my money when they have the tech at the time I am looking to upgrade.

Want to help AMD? Feel free to buy the competitive AMD CPUs if they fit your needs. I don't see a compelling reason to buy an AMD GPU and this is from someone who owned 3 generations of AMD/ATI cards before my current Nvidia card.

Otherwise, you can go ahead and buy a Chrysler 200 too because you feel bad for a corporation.

Exactly. I'm not supporting a fucking charity organization. These are multi-billion dollar companies who compete for my business. If they want my money they need to step up and earn it. People want to demonize company "A" while saying company "B" is the underdog we should support. I still recall the days when AMD charged $1,000 for processors the same as Intel. I remember ATi and NVIDIA both getting caught using "driver optimizations" to make themselves look better in benchmarks. AMD is a business. Its there to make money. We can bitch about NVIDIA's GPP and I think that's fair. However, AMD just might pull the same stunt if it had the clout in the industry to get away with it. Never forget that.

There are too many people who buy Intel/Nvidia without even considering AMD. You see it everyday in build threads where people ask which CPU or GPU they should buy, but specifically ask not to be recommended AMD hardware based on bad experiences in the past, or friends' recommending against it. It's been really obvious since Ryzen's launch, some people are just total brick walls on AMD hardware.

What AMD needs is an "awareness campaign" which comes in the form of an Nvidia boycott since it's more marketable.

I'm in the Intel/Nvidia camp and have built two Ryzen machines since they launched. Been nothing but impressed with the little buggers for the price.

What Radeon needs is to actually compete with Nvidia, like AMD did with Intel. THEN things will change. Anything else is just marketing and fanboyism.

The RX570-580 is a great card at a great price in the mainstream segment that compete very well against GTX 1060. But what really hurt in the gamer eyes is when mining start buying RX570-580 in bunches around June 2017, which pushes the pricing well above GTX1060, while this is great for AMD bottom line, it left gamers with no choice but to buy GTX 1060 as it was the cheaper option even though GTX 1060 did see a price increase but not to the extent of RX570-580, of course this is not the case now as everything is ridiculous overprice.

which pushes the pricing well above GTX1060, while this is great for AMD bottom line.
It doesn't do anything for AMD bottom line, it's the retailers and middlemen gouging. It does sell them lots of volume and fast though, which is better for the bottom line.
Before mining stuff was going pretty well for them though, I hope it doesn't hurt them long term. With Raja leaving I don't have much hope for Navi either, I think their only way out is infinity fabric linked GPUs with some sort of scheduler/controller, this way they have a scalable, small-die like Ryzen approach for graphics which can also be integrated for APUs very easily. This will cause much disruption to Nvidia, enabling further revenue and R&D for AND to catch up the per-die performance deficit. This might be the reason for GPP, to try starve them of marketing, before they can do it.

So this way we get back to square one. AMD has a better or as good product and the market share barely changes, because people are misinformed or don't know about it.

Until AMD puts out something that resoundingly beats what NVIDIA has, I'll keep buying NVIDIA graphics cards. I don't believe in corporate welfare so AMD can suck it.

Anyone that breaks this issue down to corporate welfare needs to have their head examined.

Capitalism only works when competition is possible, between the initial investment in required infrastructure, navigating patents and existing IP, and scumball tactics, capitalism is quickly becoming a thing of the past. The real question is do we want to preserve a free market by protecting and/or enabling competition, or do we just want to let it die and be replaced by corporatism.

Typically a consumer buys a product based on the high level factors of price and performance. Can I afford the product and does it work to my satisfaction? And maybe that's too simplistic and other factors need to be considered. But if the product doesn't meet the price and performance expectations of potential buyers other factors are likely irrelevant.
