Starting in June of this year, you will no longer be able to click on Google-served cryptocurrency get rich quick advertisements. Of course Google is waiting for the crypto-bubble to burst before it pulls those ads. If you are not familiar with just how many there are, this guy lists out more than a few that he thinks are ponzi schemes.

In addition, ads for the following will no longer be allowed to serve: Cryptocurrencies and related content (including but not limited to initial coin offerings, cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency wallets, and cryptocurrency trading advice)

The globalists Google/Facebook are trying to suppress cryptocurrency, because it threatens central government and corporate control of monetary policy.

Yes, because turning resources into virtual currency is such a great idea. Regardless of the motivation the best thing one can do is block every form of cryptomining and the sooner the better.

You must hate the USD after it went full virtual when they dropped the gold standard......

I don't get the blind (uneducated) hate for cryptos. How is it affecting your life so negatively it needs to be destroyed? Do you honestly think there isn't a better way of handling money/financing than our current banking system? I mean it's worked so great with all the data leaks, financial collapses, proper fucking customers, government bailouts etc, why would we want to change that.....

How can you not understand the hate for crypto? The main concern is how it destroyed the gpu market for gamer/enthusiasts... nobody gives a shit as to what you accept as a form of currency.

The issue isn't the decentralized nature of cryptocurrency or the threat it may pose to fiat money. The issue is that, right now crypto it is the wild west, and people are getting scammed.

That is the governments concern. As far as the every day Joe is concern, it's gpu prices. Lets be real for a minute here lol

Oh, that's definitely why there is so much hate for crypto here. My point was that there are legitimate reasons for concern that go beyond video card shortages and global banking conspiracies. In Google's case, they probably just don't want to be associated with scams.

All the while tech support scam ads flourish at the top results for common tech queries in google.

This, maybe they should expand this to all shady business sectors. Unrelated note: anyone need cheap viagra shipped from the phillipines?

Stupid people have been getting scammed long before crypto started...... Doesn't matter what the tech, people will use it to scam others, specifically the idiots thinking they can get rich quick. If that's your only reasoning to hate crypto, you should also hate cash/craiglist/ebay/email/computers.... the list goes on and on.

And so what about video cards.... That's supply and demand for you. Gotta either pay up or wait a couple months for the craze to die down, just like it's done before.

I'll play.

Reasons to hate the cryptocraze.

1) Wasting resources. I see a lot of the miners rationalizing how they are paying for the eletricity so they should be able to use it anyway they like. That is irresponsible thinking, at best. It takes resources to generate the electricity. Those resources are being wasted doing nothing but using power to race towards virtual coin ownage. Basically, miners are racing to see who can use more electricity than the next guy.

2) Arbitrary video card price increases. The video cards are doing nothing more than using electricity as fast as they can. Yes, the miners would say they are doing everything they can to reduce power usage, but the truth of the matter is, the more power you are using, the more coin you are earning. This demand has served to help drive video card prices sky high, at the consumer level. Some miners like to blame RAM as being part of the problem, but there has not been any MSRP increases, wihch would relfect increased costs in RAM. Some say gamers are driving it, but gamers have always been buying cards at a fairly steady rate.

There are other reasons, but they are less tangible.

My two cents....

Back OT. I am glad to see anyone doing anything to reduce support for the cryptocraze.

So you hate crypto for fixable issues and ignore any potential positive points or use cases.......

Lets say all miners have moved to systems with machines with dedicated ASIC cards only powered by renewable energy (solar/wind at their house). What would you hate about it then?

As long as they stay out of our neighborhood, then I would not mind it at all. I am talking about data centers.

I have nothing against the concept. I detest the implementation and, to a lesser degree, the general attitude of miners.

if that were the case then it probably wouldn't be such an issue for people around here but when we are watching crypto/miners destroy an industry we have loved for 25+ years its hard not to be upset.
and as just mentioned by BS, the attitude of most miners does not help.

LOL do share what industries are being destroyed by miners.... It sure isn't hardware manufacturers, developers/IT, energy, financial managers etc........

And as far as waste is concerned, how about looking at datacenters hosting facebook/insta/any other silly social media platform. Sharing narcissistic selfies and cat pictures is a much better use of resources.......

for me pc and pc gaming industry. nice deflection and that's the attitude we're talking about.

Ah yes this attitude miners have that you hate so much. Except I've never mined or purchased crypto, so who's deflecting? I just see the use case and think 'omg i can't afford the latest video cardz!!!' is a really dumb argument to try and ban something.

And not sure where you're getting any info on how mining is killing pcs/gaming. If anything is killing PC gaming it's EA's bullshit, and AAA titles that are just the exact same shit port from last year re-skinned. That industry is doing a fine job of killing itself.

I didn't say you were a miner I said that's the attitude that people have a problem with.
EA's bs hasn't done any real damage to the gaming industry. some people are unhappy with their practices but lots are still buying games.

I'm a miner and I don't have an attitude, other than being pissed off about gamers hating me. I've never seen soooo many posts about people hating other people. Are most gamers so hateful? I'm a gamer (also) and I don't hate people for this. I don't really think I hate anyone. I'm sure if I knew someone who committed certain crimes (no need to mention) I'd hate them.

Honestly... It is unfortunate, but [H]ardOCP has been complicit in the hate by allowing it.

It may also have to do with the frequency thease threads cone up. There are normally multiple threads a day that find there was to this EXACT same argument. And ever crypto thread starts off with "it must die so I can get video cards" this makes everyone pretty tired of hearing the same thing leaving only the extremely opinionated, easily trigutrig, or new ro the discussion.

There are threads where people say they wish miners would die in here. I'm surprised [H] supports this kind of thing.

The average gamer getting upset at not being able to find cards is understandable. Habitual haters on the other hand are just using it as an frustration outlet.

The problem with that is I find deals on cards all the time. I have to restrain myself to not buy them. Yea they are a little more than they should be, but if you can't afford to pay $699 for a GPU that has an MSRP of $599 (which you would pay?), you have bigger problems.

Being upset isn't a reason to hate someone. Toxic environment.

At the rate things are going, crypto currencies may be worthless by June.

lol this isnt even the stepest or largest drop in the last year for most. cryptos are volitile. that allows them to move down 70% as easily as they moved up.

They have been on a big decline for the past two months. There have been big drops like this before but also the market has changed a lot since the last crash of this size. I'd love for these to come back as I have a vested interest in them but I am not so sure they will.

or system builders that cant ya know build a fucking system...

bitcoin and some other large cryptos are HEAVILY manipulated. the price you see is not due to a market acting a certain way, its acting exactly how a wealthy group of people want it to. as a result I can easily see it droping to x amount (btc shouldnt be able to go below 5600) and then doing as cryptos do and jump. I REALLY wish eth and some other cryptos would break the correlation with btc tho... It would make crypto alot stronger as a whole.

I myself don't care.
I'm a gamer, but also a miner. I have 13 GTX 1060 and 1 GTX 1080Ti. Pretty much everything is mining.
If gamers (and non gamers) don't like me, they can suck it. It will not stop me from buying more cards in the future just so I can mine, and I will not sell any of my old cards as long as they pull a profit (even if it's $1/month per card).

Well seeing that the point went completely above your head. If I were you I'd pause before calling anyone blind, let alone uneducated.

  1. Crypto doesn't affect my life one bit a the moment. But I have a little more forward thinking than my own immediate financial situation.
  2. Yes I think there are better ways, but that doesn't mean crypto is helping at all.
  3. I've been advocating for the abolition of the current financial system for at least a decade (yes before 2008), but for all intents and purposes crypto is not a solution, it's the adding of insult to injury. It is basically the same system but without the stabilizing power of governments and industries behind it. With the added "benefit" of mining, which is the main problem with crypto. I don't care about cryptocurrency that can't be mined, it doesn't help anything (well except criminals) but at least it doesn't drive us towards more immediately an economic disaster, and in the long term: ecologic disaster.

Yes, mining is the single most selfish activity one can engage in now, it shows an utter indifference to the future stability of our civilization, it endangers our very way of life. Just imagine what would happen if everybody suddenly stopped doing meaningful work and started mining for profits, creating absolutely no value. You'd have currency but you couldn't buy anything because there was nobody producing anything of worth since everyone was creating virtual coins. And by "everyone" of course one doesn't mean literally everyone. It just means reaching a tipping point. I don't know at which point would we start to notice shortages in everyday commodities, but it would come no doubt about it. The shortage of GPUs is just the tip of the iceberg, even if the reason for that shortage is different.

From the ecologic side, we're already in a crisis due to climate change and pollution. Now add to that the fact that miners already waste more energy than some smaller countries altogether. I hope you can all at least agree that mining doesn't return anything of value into the economy. While using resources of value like electricity and computer peripherals Which all take resources to create. One doesn't need to be a genius to realize that this is like running at a brick wall following the trail of (virtual) coins.
