Xeon E5-2667 v2 - 4.1ghz all 8 core turbo, 4.5ghz single - 114mhz BCLK

Just wanted to let you know I've got at stable overclock of 114mhz BCLK on a Xeon E5 2667 v2, which means a neat 4.1 all core turbo and 4.5 single core turbo. :) And all on stock turbo voltage.
The most impressive thing IMO is the cooling, overclocked at 114mhz BCLK it never got hotter than 50 degrees under benchmarks (stock temps are off, forgot to open OHM before the tests).

I was coming from an i7 4790k delidded at 4.5. No difference in games what so ever.

100mhz Xeon E5 2667 v2
bf1 - 101fps
skyrim - 42fps


114mhz Xeon E5 2667 v2
bf1 - 102fps
skyrim - 43fps

i7 4790k
bf1 - 100 fps
skyrim - 41 fps
 
Arg, don't let them know that. I was hoping to put two of these in my dual 2011 soon at a cheaper price.

Is that system used for gaming or virtualization? I think you should go with dual E5 2680 v2 instead, unless you use it for gaming. 2680v2 are cheaper (~180$ vs ~250$), more cores and lower TDP. :)
If the 2680 v2 ever comes below or at 100$, they are a steal.
 
Neat, but on an X79 board the 1680v2 is identical (8c/16t 25MB L3) and straight up unlocked. Mine does 4.5 without a single tweak.

If you could get this working on a dual board somehow it would be impressive.

The 1680v2 is a lovey chip, but sadly it's very expensive, ~500$ on the bay. At which price did you get yours?
And the first '1' in the product name, means it's a single socket CPU. E5 2xxx means dual, E5 4xxx means quad and so on (but I'm sure you already know that :)).
 
holy hell. I have the sr-x motherboard and two 2670's and i couldnt get them above a 103 bclk. a 114 would be fantastic with a pair of 2687w's

2680v2's my second option. I deal with a few programs heavily where there's diminishing returns after 16 cores. I'll probably settle for the cheaper solution. At least I have a pair of E5-2670s and E5-2643s to sell off.

And on X79 there is no difference between any E5 but I'm sure you already knew that ;) Some programs like cpu-z even think mine is a 2690v2, the die is from a 10-core with 2 cpus disabled but all L3 enabled. The HCC chips all have the QPI links needed for 4-way SMP, intel just turns them off for different skus.

Damn, that's expensive but still it's a nice chip. The high end E5's are indeed all so similar :)
Are you running 4.5ghz on all 8 cores for the past 2 years then? stable?
 
It's a shame I'm only just now learning about this board. I have a nice, stable Asrock EP2C602 server board, but arr. Still think the endgame for this particular system is the E5-2667v2s or 2687Wv2. Just gotta keep riding the gpurampocalypse with ECC DDR3.
 
I got a Xeon 5650 here no idea if its good. Need board that could run it...idk some newer china examples that saying it can, idk lower phase board 10-12phase...
find one that does that's gawd on 1366.

E5-2667v2s or 2687Wv2, just get what ever is cheapest. There's no real performance difference, both have all core turbo at x36.

Nah, I just have a vanilla with 8 slots and 32GB ECC RAM that I think cost less than $50 when I bought it. I'll keep an eye out for that 2667v2. Thanks!

The Xeon X5650 can easy hit 4.0 with a good board, but a good used board is hard to come buy. Look at your local equivalent for Craigslist for used systems with a shitty i7 920 and a good motherboard.

You must have a decent x79 motherboard. I have a ASUS P9X79 Pro. Which motherboard do you use?
BCLK does have a tradeoff with PCIe cards. My GTX 1070 works fine, but i tried with a LSI 9212-4i4e and a 10Gb Melanox SFP+ network card and these 2 only worked at 100mhz BCLK.
I got 5 SSDs in the system, 1 boot 250GB, 2 250GB in RAID 0 and 2 500GB also in RAID 0. The arrays are created using Windows Disk Management. Never have i experienced any dataloss, just rock stable performance. I do have Veeam endpoint to my storage server to backup the RAID 0 arrays, as dataloss will ocur if 1 disk fails.

Just went from a 3930k at 4.6ghz to a 2697v2 12 core xeon off ebay, also at 114 bclk. Seems like 113 to 114 is the limit for bclk overclocking on x79.

3dmark timespy with a 2080ti:
3930k @ 4.6: 11,614
2697v2 @ 3.4 all core oc: 13,032

Cinebench R15:
3930k @ 4.6: 1137
2697v2 @3.4: 1784

Since I mostly game at 4k it is GPU limited, and doubling the cores provided a nice bump for 4k video rendering. They aren't too expensive on ebay right now, should be good with this chip until threadripper 3 comes out.

Leaving it on prime95 for 8 hours the temps never went above 58c on any of the cores with a h115i

no bclk issues yet with a 10g asus card, pcie->nvme boot drive, or usb devices yet.

How is general system responsiveness or boot time with the additional processing threads available? This is a tempting replacement for my 3930k- it’s pretty much 100% gaming and browsing and I’ve yet to have a good reason to upgrade the whole system, but doubling the core count has some appeal. My current non-ECC RAM should continue to work fine?

I don't notice much of a difference in general use unless doing something that uses all the threads. For more gaming and browsing I'd go with the E5-1680V2 as it has an unlocked multi so overclocks better. I have 64gb non-ecc ddr3 that I'm using with it.

Its 2019 and games still don't make use of lots of cores lol. Maybe the next playstation rumored to have more cores will change that.

Edit:BO4 microstuttering is gone when using a tip for ryzen processors, setting cpu priority management to manual then giving it a high priority in windows fixed it so maybe wasn't the bclk messing with the video card.
