Perhaps the best headphones at...$50?

I've had these for about 2 years and love them. Comfortable. Light enough. Cheap. Sound amazing. Come with nice long aux cord replaceable.

2 cons -
1. Since they are open all the noise bleeds out into room.
2. They really benefit from some kind of little amp in my opinion. The volume on mine didn't really get loud enough direct on PC/laptop/phone.

I do ... not even thinking about it until your post ... lol

I had to try it right now ... and they are very comfortable
I do, also. They are really as comfortable as can be wearing glasses. They don't squeeze too hard on my head.

Games, music, everything.
On second thought -- if you would 'probably die' if you experienced any loss in clarity/definition over your Sennheiser 555 - don't stray off the reservation. I mean death is a pretty serious consequence.

LMFAO, that was just so funny when I read it just now, thanks Archaea :p

Considering buying these to replace my Sennheiser HD485. Out of stock on Newegg though and they're $75 on Amazon... Not sure I want to pay $75. Anyone have any suggestions for closed style for that price range? I see the monoprice retro's but I am kind of under the impression that they aren't as good as that video suggests, especially the build quality and stock pads... Mostly I use my headphones for gaming.

Buy the pads that he suggests or any multitude of other pads that fit it (yes, there are other options). These are a great set of closed cans that have a large sound stage and excellent bass (both things to look for in gaming headphones).

I might buy a pair and skip the earpads at first because they're only $18.... but the earpads are like double the cost of the headphones lol.

I just ordered an Open Box SHP9500s from newegg for $41 shipped. Pretty happy about that price. Hope they come in good condition! Says standard return policy so we'll see how this goes

Bought an open-box pair on eBay for ~$25 shipped to play with.
Sounds pretty decent to me (compared to my usual Denon D600 and AKG K550), but definite sound leakage in and out.

Well, they are open headphones, so "sound leakage" is a given.

I got my open box special for 41 shipped off Newegg. Pretty sure it was never opened and was returned because the box was pretty badly damaged. No damage to the headphones though. Been using them and I'm pretty happy. They get fairly loud and sound solid overall. Can't best this for 41 bucks I don't think.

I will swap you my ( pretend ) Audeze LCD-4’s for your ghetto box set.

that's used right? Still a good price I suppose.

It is the Amazon returns so they sell them in the Warehouse Deals section. ;) The extra 20% off is really cool also. You can call and inquire about the warranty on the item that you want to purchase from there. Last time I called about a 1080Ti, I was told that Amazon honored the full manufacturer's warranty on the item. But like I said it is best to call and ask. ; )

I bought a $350 Steelseries headset from Warehouse deals for $200. The battery had an issue holding a charge, so I contacted SS. They had me send my invoice from Amazon, so I assumed I was screwed since I had bought the used set. To my surprise, they honored the full $350 price of the set, and gave me credit to order a new one directly through them. I basically made $150 for having a bad battery lol.

I think i'm an idiot, someone help me out here. I purchased the headset and MIC in the OP, and there is only a single plug that connects to my PC for both... I assumed I plugged that into my PC headphone jack, but my MIC doesn't work! I assumed the mic cable plugged in to a different area on the headset and I would have 2 cables plug in to my PC. Anyone know a solution?

Looks at how many contacts are on the end that goes into your PC, it’s 4, compared to three at the other end. Many PCs don’t support using the headphone output as a mic using the 4th conductor.

I too bought these headphones as the OP suggested and the single 3.5 jack did not work with the mic. Ordered the Vmodo as it has the separate jacks with splitter. I’ve gone through various headphones because they all give me a headache and I do wear glasses. So far these Phillips feel very comfortable and hope I can get the mic working once I get the Vmodo mic.

Yeah the vmoda mic has the splitter included. Good cable too

After using these for a few days, I think I may have to return them. They sound great but the issue I am having is that way too much sound gets picked up by the MIC while gaming. All of my buddies can hear my game sound leaking thru, I have to turn the volume down extremely low for it to stop happening. Unless someone has a fix?

The software that came with my Soundblaster Z has settings in the Crystal Voice section to help eliminate sound leaking thru. I don't have my new mic yet but I'm hoping I don't have it or I can correct it. Might your sound card have something too?

I have an asrock x99 Taichi with creative sound drivers. I fudged with some of the mic settings but it ultimately led to either my voice being low or the game volume being too low.

Not sure how loud you're playing, shouldn't be THAT noticable. Might want to go with a closed set of cans at that point.

I'd put these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GDB79T4/ up against ANYTHING out there under $100. The Phillips are great headphones, no doubt about it. The Akai's are rebranded ISK MDH9000, which are made by Takstar. They also rebrand them as the LyxPro HAS-30, Marantz MPH-2, Freeboss MDH9000, etc.

One thing though, the detachable cable WILL need to be modded to fit the VModa mic. You might also want to replace the stock earpads with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6DLLMN/ or https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071P4T7Q5/ they'll sound and feel a lot better.

Ended up getting a pair of hyperX cloud alphas. Returning these tomorrow. They sounded great and were super comfortable otherwise!

These do have quite a bit of sound leakage, more than my HD590s I would say. At work when I use them even if my sound is pretty low, people nearby can still hear it somewhat.

Yeah, they're super open, but that's a big part of what makes the soundstage so ridiculously good with these headphones. So definitely not a headphone to use in a group/public environment.

That's what I like about them.. as I can also hear around me so I'm alert if something happens.. as I play at night. Want to hear if someone breaks into the house or kids wake up.

My son loves his HyperX's. He sleeps with them much to my chagrin. They've held up great so far. He's listened to my high end cans from dynamic to electrostatics so he has an idea.

Heh, I'd be worried about how the cord for that HyperX is holding up under those conditions :p
