Coffee Lake CPUs on Skylake and Kaby Lake motherboards BIOS hack

This has been mentioned before on these forums, but remains quad core only afaik.. which is really nothing special. Why perform a hack of questionable stability so you can buy a quad core CFL(which is pretty much just Kaby Lake) to put in your Z270 board? It's a useless curiosity.

Hacker's gonna hack and modders gonna mod. Hell maybe because someone said it couldn't be done, the fuck if I know why. Why don't you PM the OP who made that thread and report back to us.

Or you could hit up the modders rootuser123, LittleHill, dsanke, elisw, Mov AX, and 0xDEAD on Overclock.net that are responsible for the worthless hack and ask them why.

x99 could do 4->10 cores on high watt on 22nm 14nm, x299 can do even more cores. but intel have no foresigth to make a platform that can do 4 -> 8 cores for mainstream, EVEN when they have everything planned for most part. seems logical to me or what, no?

Yeah I'm in this camp, I even might start to question the intelligence or extreme gullibility of the other camp.

"1151v2" is 100% market segmentation, 0% engineering. MBAs wagged the engineers on this one.

I might give it 99% and 1%. I mean they did make a bunch of NC pins into power pins to make it seem like they did something and to make the old processors not compatible.
 
I would actually place money that there were issues in the wild with many motherboards that they knew wouldn't work right, thus they forced a respin.
Things that can be forced to work on top shelf aftermarket boards generally do not work as well on the cheap ass rank-and-file with every corner cut.

Why do I think that? Because they aren't actually going to make any real money on the respin, considering the retooling and inventory issues. Making a new chipset actually costs a damn fortune, and the number of "extra" sales to people like us doesn't move the needle.

I am absolutely with you - Intel and in fact all companies would toss puppies into a wood chipper if it meant beating analyst expectations for a quarter, but I don't think this chipset issue markedly affects that. <shrug>

Overbuilding your motherboards just so that some tiny component of people can upgrade from generation to generation without motherboard replacement seems crazy to me. Power delivery for 4 and 8 core CPUs is totally different alone. Most people keep CPUs for 2 or 3 generations at a minimum which means that all you really accomplish with this is making motherboards more expensive.

X299 is a very expensive platform compared to the cheapest mainstream boards.
