The Verge is reporting that Microsoft is planning on integrating Cortana into Outlook mobile. The article states that the integration is currently being tested internally by Microsoft, and will allow people to listen and respond to email using their voice. If feedback from the internal testing is positive, the feature should start making its way to beta and public released of Outlook for Android and iOS.

While I don't use Outlook mobile, I know several people who manage multiple email accounts who do, and for them I hope this integration is optional or non-existent. The few run-ins that Cortana and I have had did not end all that well.

News of Cortana integration in Outlook comes just weeks after Microsoft’s Outlook for iOS and Android boss transitioned to overseeing the Cortana digital assistant. Javier Soltero, who first joined Microsoft when the software maker acquired the Acompli email app, will report to Harry Shum, Microsoft’s head of AI and research.

The keyboards on iOS and Android have built-in speech to text. It works reasonably well. Is Cortana supposed to do a better job? (Not saying they can't - especially with Siri, I think Apple is in 3rd place, maybe 4th).

How about they update Outlook on Android to just work before they add an assistant I'm not going to use anyway? I need to use it for work, because we use Cloud Exchange with 2fa and nothing else knows how to connect. But it's super annoying that if i open a notification for a meeting to see the room, there's a 25% chance it'll actually open, so I have to force close and restart.

They used to have an ad-campaign against Google, where the difference was "Outlook doesn't read your email."

Does this mean they're reading everyone's email now?

Just thought of that.

Microsoft: Would you like to send us all your private e-mail so we can scan and analyse it? Consumer: No way in hell.
Microsoft: Would you like to speak to Cortana so we can fill your e-mail for you? Stupid consumer: Hell yeah. Smart consumer: What the hell is Cortana or Outlook?

They really need to stop forcing Cortana! She's like the snooty wife #2 that absolutely no one, but the ex-wife, likes! Your ex likes her only because she knows #2 makes your life so much more a living hell than she ever did!:ROFLMAO:

I've never used Microsofts outlook app, and if Cortana makes its way into it, I never will.

The standard phone email and calendar integration has always been sufficient for me.

Microsoft keeps forgetting the golden rule of software development:

Never integrate, never bundle and force things on people they don't want, because more often than not it will backfire. Rather than getting people to use the stuff you want them to use, they will just stop using your shit all together.

so, do tell, how is that 2nd wife of yours working out??

*snickers*

I just wish Ms would stop pushing apps on other phones and get it's window phone back in action and make some apps for that. Yep sure I'll catch hell here for liking a Win Phone but I love mine and find it better than any droid I ever used, just wish I discovered it years before.
