The National Rifle Association has honored Ajit Pai with the “Charlton Heston Courage Under Fire Award,” a Kentucky long rifle, for braving death threats as he worked to undo net neutrality. According to one attending executive, Pai “saved the Internet.”

The repeal of the net neutrality rules was a victory for internet service providers like AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon, conferring power over what content consumers can access and allowing them to offer paid fast lanes for certain content. On the other side, technology companies have thrown their weight behind the congressional bid to reverse the net neutrality repeal.

Good on Pai, standing up to the waves of misinformation and hive-mind ignorance. NRA is on the receiving end of that exact same crowd right now.

I am tired of this group think mentality of general "doing good and being good people" when it comes to issues that these people dont know up from down or right from wrong, and refuse to discuss details beyond emotional banter.... "The path to hell is paved with good intentions"... These 'do-gooder' types are going to walk the entire nation into its demise, not caring about how they know NOTHING on which they speak about from their supposed moral high ground.

The country need more bad-asses like Pai, who are willing to stand up to a mobilized mass of tens of millions of ignorant and misinformed people.

I totally agree. It's not my problem if you can't afford to pay for good internet. These people are stagnating the market with their regulations. Free the internet and let the market deal with it. Look at what it has done with our health care system.

In Canada we have free healthcare

Update: I seem to have blown a lot of people's minds with this post.
Obviously it's tax payer funded.
I also apparently triggered a lot of Americans. Which wasn't my intent.
Special snowflakes!!

You are part of the problem.

Are you aware of the 3+ laws/acts that already covered this sort of thing? Ofcourse you arent, because your mob of media/experts told you they didnt exist.... Federal Trade Comission Act, Sherman Act and Clayton Act all cover the very issues people used as the reasons NN was 'needed'.

And I guess people were also dying in the streets in the US before Obamacare? Nope.... Again, you were told the sky was falling or would fall (fearmongering), when it wasnt, and the 'do-gooder' inside of you said "we must stop the sky falling" without knowing anything about what you are talking about.

But yes. Keep pretending you have a clue, as you blindly listen to people you think 'are smatter than you' while thinking they would somehow be held accountable (by who exactly?) if they lied to you.

In the case of NN... You believed a bunch of BS that was outright lies (again, existing laws covered the 'issues' raised), and as the result allowed the mob of media and experts lead you to support something that would give the Government the ability to censor ISPs if they didnt like the content they shared (effectively giving the government ability to censor the US internet). But you didnt know that, did you?

Every time I believe I've read the most ill informed garbage possible on the internet, someone comes and lowers the bar. In this instance two people.

Seems to me when all this NN was going down, everyone was pissed off. Throw the NRA in there and comments like this come out of the woodwork.

To hell with our highway system with that kind of mentality. Pave your own damn road, and get the hell off mine dude.

The whole "net neutrality" debate is like watching two supervillains fight over who's going to take over the world.
On the one side: Google and Facebook, who want the lion's share of Internet-related revenue, and therefore favor net neutrality.
On the other side: ISPs like Comcast, who want a percentage of all the money Google and Facebook are making over their pipes.
There's no white hats on either side.

But in the near future, the landscape may change. New forms of ISP (like LEO internet services) may actually restore competition to the ISP market.
If that happens, then there mayl be good reasons to be against net neutrality, because there will be competition int he ISP space.

Unfortunately, it's your local governments bribed by Telecos to sign exclusive cable/ land-usage rights. That's where the monopolies were formed... from the ground up... from small towns up.

At least we have two broadband ISP's where I live. AT&T Fiber and Comcast cable...

In Canada we have free healthcare
And that's why your healthcare system is the worst in the world while America's in the best. I heard this from real news, not the fake news sources.

"Let the free markets... "

What free markets?!? Do people actually believe telecom is some sort of free market? Healthcare is? What a ridiculous notion to believe.
It's just the truth. Free market fixes everything, you'll see. Look at Bell Atlantic and De Beers. Only good things came from them.

I sure hope we are missing a few /blistering_sarcasm tags here.
I don't know what you're talking about? My comments are sarcasm free.

I'm just fucking with jamesgalb. Don't tell him.

1934 telecoms act - title 2 was for telephones. It's not "NN" it's title 2 application. If you keyboard warriors want "NN" effects, write your congresscirtters to create legislation that enacts "NN" rules.

BTW, I have 3 gigabit competing ISP's that offer me service, and multiple 500mbps cable companies. In my case competition works REALLY freaking well. For those that have a monopoly provider for fast internet, That sucks, and telling your congress-xir to provide legislation would help.

Duke didnt know what he was talking about, so now wants to call it 'just fucking with ya'. Gotcha ;)

Every time I believe I've read the most ill informed garbage possible on the internet, someone comes and lowers the bar. In this instance two people.

Id encourage you to go read up on the FTC Act, Sherman Act and Clayton Act. Each have sections that would cover the exact things NN claims to 'fix'.

NN was nothing more than giving the Government the ability to revoke 'licenses' from ISPs (when they dont agree with the content they allow access to). It was literally escorting in Government Censorship under the false guise of 'protecting us' from something we already have laws addressing.

Again. The path to hell is paved with good intentions (combined with ignorance).... Ignorant 'do-gooders' make for an easily manipulable group to help push bad policy. All you have to do is frame something as right vs wrong with a convincing story, and leave out the important details...

Thanks for the truth!!!

Good for you!

not everyone lives in a city with that level of competition. Most dont. I lived in a place where it was TWC (now spectrum) or................... nothing.

every month they raised prices stating "your promotion has ended" and other such lies. They supposedly let you use your own modem so they wouldn't charge you, but then they would shut down your internet randomly for hours on end and said "its your equipment its your fault, pay us a rental fee bitch"

Without NN ISP are more free to discriminate against content.
No, they arent. That is a mindless talking point based in ZERO facts. That stuff was already covered under existing laws, when applicable.

Please. Show me the part of Title 2 regulations that does what you say. I will wait.

You are exactly what I was talking about. Someone who doesnt actually know what they are talking about in relation to the topic they are speaking about, but continues to pass along the misinformation while feeling sure that the people they heard it from are telling them the truth.... You hear "this is something that does good for people", and buy the words alone without giving a single thought to what is actually behind those words. You assume "They cant say that and do something completely different, people would hold them accountable", and then ignore those of us 'holding them accountable' because of mob mentality and the people you choose to trust.... You are taken advantage of as a result. Easily.

NN was nothing more than communism that favoured the likes of Netflix and other huge data based services (cloud streamers), in that they didn't have to pay for their use of the infrastructure to run their business. Ever wonder why you now have data limited plans, slow speeds and throttling where as you didn't pre-2015 anywhere as bad?

Hell yeah we don't need no stinkin' Gubment run by lizard people tellin' me what porno I can download

Comcast implemented data caps in knoxville in 2010-1011. Netflix and other services have their own isp too. You should learn how the internet works from someone other than Alex Jones

So without NN what prevents ISPs from traffic discrimination? Possibly other avenues. Title 2 wasn't a specific remedy to this but provided a direct regulatory means to enforce ISP traffic rules.

The death of NN just means ISPs that stayed the same after NN, during NN and before NN and have no data caps will just end up with more customers. Must be working, they can afford to setup 1 Gig 20 miles into the middle of nowhere for availability. :p

The FTC Act, Sherman Act and Clayton Acts prevent it.

What in "NN" Title 2 regulations stopped it? NOTHING. Yet you perpetuate that misinformation. Why? Are you not aware that you dont actually know what Title 2 regulation are? Why would you say something without knowing anything about it?

Again. NN is literally taking advantage of do-gooder ignorance to allow the Government to weasel in censorship control over our internet.... People are blind as shit with this 'virtue signalling' nonsense, putting what they think is "fair" above real information.

Do you know why isp was reclassified under title 2? You should read Verizon v FCC 740 F.3d 623
