How many of you has a giant Noctua almost touching your video card?

I have one slot from the gpu, so it doesn't come close to touching, but it is annoying as hell trying to remove the graphics card. I have to carefully use a screwdriver to unlock the latch.
 
here i'm using a stock amd hsf from my 939 3200+ on my fm2+ 845 i did swap the fan from the thing that came with the 845 to this one so now it looks like a red fan on a wraith cooler whisper quiet and works great not that the cpu i have runs that warm.... i have a scythe ninja 3 on my friends gaming rig the fan died so i took it off checked the temps and never replaced the fan that heatsink keeps his fx 4370 under 130F while gaming with just the airflow from the case fans...

The scythe ninja 3 barely fit his case and actually rests one corner on the fan on the side panel...
 
I have my old i7 930 (MSI X58 Big Bang Xpower) with a Noctua NH-D14. My main system uses the NH-D15. Neither have any issues with sag or blocking the PCI ports. Blocking the memory DIMMs is far more likely especially if you have sticks with the little heatsinks that stick up. I think I do usually install the GPU a little farther down just to have extra space, I suppose if I had any other PCI cards things could be crowded.
 


advance to 11:14 and see how close the video card is kissing to the fin of the heat sink, I am surprise it doesn't short circuit it
 
PITA getting that fan clipped in. Fit my old MB nicely. Probably should have gotten an NH-D15S instead of NH-D15.

hwy, how did you buy the above CPU cooler? I can't find NH-D15 or D15S that c/w the black fan. They all come w/ the medium brown color fan. Did you buy the black fan extra and just swap out the brown color fan?

Also, is that a piece of plastic on your video card? did you do it yourself?

I was thinking of the Noctua but I'm now thinking of the Cooler Master Air Maker 8

now this "genius" rotates the cooler 90 deg. So the metal is not touching the video card. The only problem is, the intake of fan is totally blocked by the video card. So it's like having just 1 cooling fan instead of 2.


I won't be surprise if this is the same japanese who build that nuclear power plant on a double fault line

I have a videocard in an ITX case, which sits about 5mm away from a full ATX power supply. No issues. The video card has one of those stabilizer plates along the edge, not a full back plate.
 
Why don't you go watercooled? My goodness, all those monies on FANs! Go water cooled!!!!
 
Tried a cryorig h5, blocks a ram slot, lp ddr4 isn't cheap and I don't feel.like swapping out the regular height ram I have.

I got a h115i off a guy that went open loop today.

It's just a convenience thing for me right now.

If your loop is set up properly (drain valves, silver coin, etc) then all you really need is a can of air and a $1 jug of distilled water. It's not that bad.

No. This is why it is conventional wisdom to only use one type of metal in the loop. Copper is the traditional and preferred choice, both for it's thermal conductivity and natural corrosion resistance, though aluminum parts are becoming more prevalent and will pose no problem as long as they aren't mixed with any non-aluminum parts.

It's common and, among many, preferred to run nothing but distilled water, using a small piece of sterling silver in the reservoir or tubing to act as a growth inhibitor.

You can control that. Watercooling companies (the reputable ones, at least) advertise exactly what their components are made of. And it's not your video card itself that has to be the right metal, it's the GPU block.

All in all, it's pretty easy to educate yourself and assemble a no-hassle loop. However, given that you seem to have trouble buying a HSF CPU cooler that will fit in your build without touching your GPU, I can see how watercooling might seem daunting to you.
 
Well, I'm not the only one. You read on page 1 of this thread that others has short circuit their video card. I think they should make these CPU cooler in a thinner (elongated) sharp instead of square

I bought the fan separately.

I don;t know what you are talking about on the video card/ The backplate? That is metal and came with it.

Coolermaster coolers suck. Don't go there.

I have had numerous high-end "highly ranked" Coolermaster coolers and they all sucked. The best of the lot was the 212,, and it only cooled decently by running dual fans at very loud very high speed. And then it was way below par.

And it is not just their cooling performance, Their mounting, both motherboard and fan attachment were sub-par. Lots of hype, no results. Never again.

If you are looking at reviews at frostytech, forget it. Their numbers, and other review sites, do not match reality,

Not quiet ones, noise is a consideration. As for me, I can turn my hearing aids off and not give a damn! ;-)

I had an 80mm tornado fan on my cpu heat sink at one time. My hearing GF at that time told me to remove that damn blow dryer out of my case! ;-)

the spec. shows a max. of 24 dB. They are the Silence FP fans

The MTBF is long, 160,000 hr.

and they can adjust the fan height so it doesn't block the memory stick

I got the reviews from youtube. I really don't know what is NOT to like. Out of interest, I'm currently using a very similar Noctua dual fan + dual heatsink 14 cm x 2 (I have 2 Xeon), I have been using this for 3 yr. And I'm very happy w/ it.

Other than it probably won't cool for spit and is louder than cheaper coolers, if you are happy with it...

You obviously don't understand cooling. The number allows them to run at lower rpm so the rig is quieter even under load. There is no difference in internal temp with the case opened or closed.
