I can pull 6.4A peak from a single 6-pin peripheral channel on a PSU right?

Can I attach 6.4A of components to a single PSU 6-pin peripheral (SATA) port?

the PSU has 2 ports, but it'd be easier to run off 1

I'll be making a custom cable. I'd prefer to use 18awg for SFF. Total length between 2-3 feet. 4x connections (2x SSDs, 1x HDD, 1x fan hub)

I'm confused about calculating SSD power draw, but other than that I've spec'ed everything & theoretically it will pull about 6.42A peak

Link to SSD specs. It doesn't list amperage, only Volts & Watts. I used W/V for my calculation:
ex. 3.5W max / 5V = 0.7A

1tb 850 Evo, headroom for 2tb in the future

7700k/GTX 1080. Thinking of going AMD+Volta next

If I've got this straight, a 6-pin peripheral cable uses 3x 12v cables, 2 ground cables, and a Sense A cable.
18awg (single) at 12VDC is safe to 13.5A, or 18A without the margin of safety
From a user on tom's Novuake, "SATA power connectors has a total of 15 pins of which 9 are power pins (3 x 3.3V, 3 x 5V, 3 x 12V). Each pin can carry 1.5Amps for a total of 13.5Amps. BUT as there is as yet no use for the 3.3V pins the effective power available to drives is only 9Amps."
The calculated peak on the fan hub is 2.97A
Anecdotal evidence finds people running 10+ HDDs off 1 channel

yes the sata will cover that BUT that psu is barely enough for what youre putting together and wont have room for any type of power spike. look around here and you will see other people that have tried it and either it doesn't work/reboots/powers off or your having to downclock/under volt just to get it stable. at which point you should just get lower powered parts.

Well looking at the specs, I'd assume the 5v rail feeds the CPU and also 4/6 pin ports...so it wouldn't matter which port. If it's the 5vsb rail that runs all the periphals (which I doubt because 12w is too low) then you'd be in trouble.

I've been running the PSU with everything minus 8 fans & leds for something like 8 months to 1 year. Is adding 2A peak worth of fans a considerable amount? They'll be spinning @400-800 RPM typically.

Well looking at the specs, I'd assume the 5v rail feeds the CPU and also 4/6 pin ports...so it wouldn't matter which port. If it's the 5vsb rail that runs all the periphals (which I doubt because 12w is too low) then you'd be in trouble.

Modern CPUs all use the 12v rail now.
