Looks like my spouse is buying me new headphones for Valentine's Day!

Sonarworks just released a studio headphone guide, based on freq. response, THD, replaceable pads & cables and durability. These are on the top of their open back list. Besting the $1085 HD800! This is a studio guide not an audiophile review FWIW. Anyway that you look at it, these headphone are a steal at $50.
Can you post a link, I searched but did not find that article. I did find this https://sonarworks.com/blog/how-to-choose-the-best-studio-headphones/
Mine should come in this week, gotta quit reading the hot deals thread {wink}

Bought a set after reading everyone's comments...don't currently own any over the ears headphones.

I got mine today and am using them right now. I have to say they are really good for that price. And like the video says they are really comfortable, but I can tell that in the summer these will probably be pretty hot. It's a cold day and I already think they are warming my ears. I like them a whole lot better than the ones I have hooked up to my Vive. I can hear the outside world a bit better and not feel so cut off which can be a good or bad thing depending on your preferences. I plan on using these with my Vive mainly. I do worry a bit about sweat build up though given the pads are not removable or washable. Sound wise they are really nice and clear. And it's very balanced unlike the Audio Technica ones that are connected to my Vive right now that are really bass heavy and unbalanced. These remind me of my old Grado SR-80 that my brother borrowed from me and never returned. So as of my brief usage I highly recommend them, a no brainer given the price.

Holy shit!

The soundstage on these headphones is absolutely amazing! WOW.

Listening to David Arkenstones - The Quest
Conan The Barbarian Movie soundtrack
Oblivion Movie Soundtrack

Just got mine yesterday....super comfortable, really light. Sound is pretty good, not super bassy like others have said but they sound pretty clear.

I think the reason why they seem hot is because the pads are pretty thin, so your ear is pressed right up against the speaker. At least, for me anyway.

There are several mods you can do to prevent that, from adding more "foam" to the original pads to pad replacement.
The Shure 1840 pads looks like an "easy" replacement to gain some depth.

Search youtube for Philips SHP9500 Headphones With Brainwavz HM5 Pads
It is a decent video on showing pad replacement.

The Philips SHP9500/s are undeniably the champs of the $75 and under bracket as a multi-purpose headphone (gaming, music, movies, audio production, etc). With the V-Moda Boompro mic, it becomes a great headset for games requiring voice communications (that combo beats the HyperX Cloud handily).
I used to own a pair, and would still strongly recommend them today (I bought 2 for my cousin's wedding this past summer -- 1 for both bride and groom).
Sturdily built, very comfortable, and with nice audio accuracy -- and they are low impedance (don't need a strong amp to power them).

There are much better headphones out there, but they also cost much more money -- anywhere from 2x-30x more.

Ive got a Mic already do you think these would work good connected to a ps4/Xbox one controller? I'm using Polk 4 shot headphones since my astro a 40 took a shit

The 9500's connect using the standard 3.5mm audio plug.

Sale ends in 7 hours. This deal will be gone by the time many of us East Coasters wake up in the morning (and around the time many West Coasters are going to bed) so if you've been on the fence, you'd better decide soon. Last call...

Finally got mine today, burning in tonight. I can say they are EXTREMELY comfortable, very light on my head. The bass is definitely a little light on first listen but let's see what a burn in does for them.

Ordered a set to replace the Beats Solo HD I am using in my PC. Definitely going to replace the cable with something more fancy, just for looks.

You can get them for $28 if you open a new Amex EveryDay® Credit Card

Sale appears to have been extended. Still scheduled to be $50 for at least another 18 hours.

These hit this price regularly. As long as you don't "need" them right away, just wait for the next sale.

In all seriousness, they go on sale somewhere for under $55 literally every week. The other sales forums I frequent kind of get mad at how often they are posted, but they get posted anyway, because everyone who owns them tells them to let it go, they're WORTH posting about.

Love mine with my Antlion mic. great soundstage, love it for music and gaming and Teamspeak.

I've been using mine for a couple of days now, and I am extremely happy. They are lightweight, comfortable, and the sound is very good.

ughhh totally didnt need another pair of cans but I had to pick these up. Curious to see how they hold up against audio technia's I'll report back :)

Did anyone see the warning?

Also, how do they compare to these:
https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Techni...28589&sr=8-4&keywords=audio+technica+ath-900x

I don't feel comfortable taking my $250 headphones to work.

Also, are these any better than the Philips?

California says everything causes cancer. Including the keyboard or phone that you used to type that post. I don’t see what these headphones could contain that others do not.

But yeah, I saw that. I didn’t end up purchasing these. Not because of that, I just have several other pairs that are better suited for my uses.

These are open headphones and "leak" sound, unless you have your own office they might be frowned upon.
As for cancer risk, if your headphones kill you you're doing it wrong.

when you unbox them let them play for about a day at a reasonable volume to break in the drivers - not normally a believer in that kind of thing - but it really seemed to loosen these up. They sounded a bit tinny when I pulled them out of the box. After a day of break-in they were great.

I personally thought the same about a few of my headsets.

Tiny and flat and then put em on a week later and was like wtf happened? Lol.

I just bought a Yamaha keyboard to learn and thinking about a headset ... this thread came at the perfect time ... thanks OP

I bought some semi cheapo ($45) Superlux headphones a couple of years ago and they were horrible sound wise (sounded muffled). Maybe I'll try breaking them in one of these days. Been meaning to sell them or give them away I hated them so much.

would anyone happen to know a decent source of shielded, plated cabling? somehow when ordering i neglected to notice that the cable for these cans is only five feet. monoprice has nothing (unless im blind), newegg is no better with their cheap chinese 28awg, & amazons cable section is a mess. trying to sort through it right now

I ordered these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LBJ780O/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They had all the right buzzwords and promised not to impregnate my daughter.
15' and $10 bucks prime,
    • 24k gold plated connectors resist corrosion and reduce tarnish
    • Copper braided and aluminum foil shielding provides cable flexibility and greatly reduces undesired EMI/RFI interference
    • Polyethylene Foam (PF) dielectric insulator greatly minimizes signal loss
    • Tin plated copper core reduces oxidation and increases wire life

ok, i GOT EM.
I am kind of "hearing" stupid untrained. So I listened to some music doing a crappy job of A-B testing with my JVC Harx 900 "closed" headphones.
But it was not until I listened to the begining of Red 2. Right before the suv explodes (when they leave the Costco) you hear a shopping cart behind them.
With the JVC's the cart moved inside the back of my head from left to right.
But with the Phillips I could hear the cart rolling behind my headrest (outside my skull), so now i understand Soundstage.

I got a big noggin, but if you have ever read any of my post's you would know there is not much in it.
They fit perfect with plenty of adjustibility and enough squeeze.

edit: THANKS OP!

I am pretty impressed with these. Only downside is that they are not that suited for use at work due to the open nature (even low volume stuff can be heard outside the headphone). Still, music sounds great, I've seen people complaining about the bass but it seems to be pretty punchy to me.

so far, I am really impressed. For open air headphones the bass is really good. I wish they fit a little tighter on my head and the highs are a little sharp but otherwise I love them. getting the vmodo mic here soon. Thanks for the heads up about this!

NE's customer support is such trash. My paypal address was missing the APT so they processed it as a refund without even notifying me, and now it's sold out and they refuse to process it as a replacement even though I know they have the item.

Contact their support I have better luck with either calling or making a ticket. Worst case they say you are SOL

The vmoda mic got really good reviews from my friends on discord lol

I bought got these based on this thread and love them.

I want to get over the ear headphones for work though and want to get closed headphones so as not to bug my office mate. Is there something that performs similarly at this price point but are closed headphones?

I traded in my Audeze LCD-4 for these and I only had to pay $35 instead of $50.

Excellent deal I thought.

I like the JVC Harx 900's https://www.amazon.com/JVC-HARX900-High-Grade-Full-Size-Headphone/dp/B0013P3ZOE and I also own the 700's https://www.amazon.com/JVC-HARX700-...=1520626030&sr=1-2-fkmr0&keywords=jvc+harx+70
Can't really tell much of a difference.
