These kind of comments baffle me. I got scammed 14$.. OH WELL...

That is the whole point.... They do this to many people then all of sudden they are alot richer.

That's two drinks when out with friends (if I had any). If you are worried about $14, get new employment.

I completely understand how this works. On my end, I don't care. I can just as easily waste it somewhere else.

This is the Planet Fitness business model. It's "only $10" a month... How many people join.. but stop going.. but never bother with canceling their memberships..

It's not a fantasy world. I worked hard my entire twenties to make the money I do. Instead of spending every last penny and living right to my means every raise, I didn't. It gives me the opportunity to take risks. I'm sorry you haven't reached that level, yet. I'm sure you will, if you're smart with money.
 
I don't buy into the notion of "Hey, for $14 it's worth a try".

Instead I'm thinking "If it looks like a stinker ... If it seems too good to be true ... then it is a stinker and it's not true."
 
I'm out exactly $0 for giving it a try. if it had worked, sweet, in the end, I'm out all of about 3 minutes of my time including requesting the refund.

Can't win if you don't play

I remember when I picked up a GTX780 when they first came out for $350. Brand new, from Amazon. Also sold the codes for $50 so it cost me $300.

Never hurts to try to get a deal. Also got a new Denon AVR-2400X a few weeks ago for $248 from Fry's. Price mistakes happen all the time. It's not really throwing money away when it doesn't work out.

I live by the same mentality! Though I phrase it slightly differently: "Can't win if you're not prepared to lose."

for 3 minutes I'd have jumped on this bandwagon as well!

Oh really? Never is a pretty strong statement...

Here is where I got a $600+ (at the time) Wilton vise on eBay for $265. A bunch or others also jumped on the deal when I first posted it and also got theirs. Not quite the 90+% off that this drive was but still well over half off and way below even dealer wholesale cost.

You never know... and even if it turns out to be a scam, as long as you paid through PayPay (and even better funded that with a credit card) you pretty much have nothing to lose with no risk and potentially a lot to gain.

Apparently still too poor to just buy the drive from a legitimate seller though.

No seller was ever going to ship that drive to you for $14. It was an obvious scam, as someone who is so good with money would clearly see.

Really I was just trolling because you were condescending to another poster about being smart with money right after throwing away money on a scam that had zero probability of ever paying off, menial amount or not. Just an obvious waste of time all around. I suggest investing your $14 in a random penny stock next time for a better probability of payoff. Then you could just buy the damn drive.
 
No thanks. eBay refunded me without any intervention on my part. Seems like it was worth it. I lost nothing but the possibility of obtaining merchandise. Who knows if the drives were stolen and they were trying to get rid of them?

Sure, its way too good to be true, but the pay off here is worth the risk.
 
Ebay lottery. Most likely a scam but there is a small chance it was legit. Imagine some non-tech person getting stuck with cleaning out weird uncle Sam's basement as part of an estate process. Could easily confuse a 8TB HD with the 8GB SD card they did check a price on.

Just don't buy a ticket with any money you need for food or utilities.
