DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

How are people even fitting the Asetek AIO with the 1080ti FTW3? the tubing/barb is like directly under the backplate and board of the GPU for me and no way is there enough clearance.

I wonder if they have other tubing positions because it's absolutely impossible for me. Going to try and mod my radiator.
 
Alright, I'm back with the newest idea to not quite float. I'm thinking of tying down three A4x10 FLXs as intake in some configuration (maybe 2 on the GPU side, 1 for the CPU) to the base of the chassis rather then the top of the chassis as it would be easier to do. Did a half-assed measurement of the vent slots on the base and it seems it would be possible to cable tie these micro fans centred across the slots securely. Any objections to this mounting method?

I'm also using a NF-A4x10 to cool the M.2 NVMe SSD at the front of the motherboard...

Thinking about going this way:

Now I just need a clean way to bend those aluminium rods or find another way to attach the 40mm fan right there above the SSD heatsink...

Hah, even better, the alignment of the screws of the SSD heatsink correspond to the 40mm fan! I'll take this as a sign that they were meant for each other . Now off to search some M1 standoff's so I can attach the fan over the heatsink.

why not get some double sided foam or velcro and mount it at a 45 sitting on top of the wifi shield, would it fit? ive done that befor but in a normal sized case...

For anyone interested. I'm running a Samsung 960 EVO nvme ssd on the rear m.2 slot of my motherboard and at IDLE my temps are around 86*C WITH the case entirely open. No wonder I've been getting weird slow-downs in windows! Not sure how to resolve this one.
With EK M2 68', but only a quick test, with rig in "frankenstein mood" (more or less like PC-HAngover :))
Able to put 2 M2 with cooler behind mobo, but this curves it a little, it's not the best!:facepalm:
Mobo seems to be the hottest part of this rig, and m2 behind it don't fare well...so cooling better this place it's a target here!

That might work too, but I'm searching for the cleanest solution possible.

Right now that is finding M2 standoffs, so I can use those to attach the SSD heatsink, and then attach the 40mm fan on top of that.

Like one of the first 2 models, but then in the size of the 3rd one..

I've just made another test run with the NVMe. 20min Prime with a relatively low ambient temperatur of 18-19C. Temp read with HWiNFO64
Hardware: Samsung 960 PRO 500GB (no cooler), mobo Gigabyte, 1600x with Noctua L9a (silent mode)
idle at start 36C
max during prime 60C
max after prime 67C
10min idle after prime 51C
Seems like the lowering fan speed after stopping Prime leads to less heat dissipation and therefore additional heat-up of the NVMe

Maybe put a 40mm on the bottom of the case, which pulls fresh air from the bottom and blows it through the small spacing between the motherboard and the central plate of the case?

I came home from work and found out my computer was on all day with the damn fan stuck on the radiator. I'm shocked it didn't shut down. It actually burned my finger when I touched it! I ordered the custom corsair cables and a 92mm fan grill but I'm not sure how I'll be able to squeeze that grill in there. There is absolutely no room!

As a side note you can see my second ssd up top resting on the pcie riser cable. It fits perfectly with the lid on.

I would think extra a out having that ssd there.. That is where my case gets hot and the heat is trying to get out. You block the airflow?

Just to confirm, you are using the m2 slot underneath the motherboard? If so your terms are at least 30*C cooler than mine. What cpu are you running?

Yea I debated that but I doubt it would make much of a difference. I may try printing something to funnel air back there it I'll just give up that slot entirely ☹️

Once I can get the side panel on I'll do some testing to see if that is the case. If so I'll have to remove it.
 
Yes, I'm using the M2 slot onder the mainboard (Gigabyte ITX). CPU is a Ryzen 1600x

Well we're using different boards and cpus so maybe that's the issue? I know the 8700k gets a lot hotter than the Ryzens do. Still, a 30 degree difference is nuts. I'm going to move my drive to the top slot and do more testing to see if it keeps overheating. I might have a dud drive?
 
There’s absolutely no room for that between the motherboard & the centerplate of the case...

1 works, two curves the motherboard, but all depends on where your mobo have this m2....
On asrock x299 itx, the m2 on downside is fine with cooler...the second on top...not so much!

Question to all those who already received their V2. How long did it take before the case was delivered to you? The last update that I got from DHL tracking was my case left Germany last February 8. Tried to track it using the local post office's tracking system here only resulted in 'No data found.'

Same here left Germany on Feb 8 and now it says it's prepared for custom clearing. I guess my case is in my country now. Where are you guys from?
 
In my opinion that means something is wrong. My tracking number was valid with USPS for quite a while even when DHL said it was in Germany. I'm in Maryland.

I think my Asus z370i has the m2 near the top of the underside of the motherboard so I highly doubt the heatsink will work. I'll let everyone know tonight either way.

Be careful, you'll see that your motherboard will be curved while you try to screw it,
and even if you can (I screwed it with both), it is not convenient to leave the motherboard so curved ...
So, solution 1: find a heatsink that is less big than the EK
Solution 2: a reiser m2.

If your CPU cooler has enough clearance you can try ... I personally like to use the backplate, I don't like the look of all the connections at the back with the open space...
 
D10S simple dont use the i/o Shield and use distance pices to get more space betwen the mainboard and the riser
Yes this was the third solution,
but I immediately discarded it because my I/O panel must remain in place,
but it is correct, for those who want to sacrifice the I/O panel, it will work at 100% (y)

(solution 4: ...dremmel :whistle:)
 
dondan any news about those "new", better grip case feet, where and when we can buy them? I'm searching for something better for a while but i can't find anything.

Also an update on my last post, testing done. I was really impressed by the results 3-5°C cooler on idle and 8-10°C load with the fan duct vs without. I don't know why it's cooler with the 3D printed duct vs the paper one, maybe because it's a bit larger and covers >80% of the motherboard?

Okay I spent several hours tonight trying different things. First of all. The EK heatsink on an NVME drive DOES NOT fit on the underside m.2 slot on an Asus z370-i motherboard.

It does however fit on the front side when you add the m2 standoff to the other standoff:

In other news I've basically given up getting the AIO to fit with my 1080 Ti FTW3. There is just no room to route cables. The custom corsair cables I ordered are REALLY long. I'm going to do some temperature testing tonight on the CPU and put an air cooler on it tomorrow to see if the delta is worth it to try again. I may have to go with a ghost S1 or something.

I agree that the cables are long relative to the DAN A4. In CeresPK's build a few pages back (and mine that was inspired by it) you will see that we both chose to leave the drive tray in. I used the drive tray for liberal cable routing opportunity. I posted pics of my front and back using the Corsair Premium SF cable kit. You definitely need to find a good place to route them. If you want a straight shot I think a custom CableMods order (custom ordered down to 150mm) is best. (Here is a build from earlier in this thread which illustrates what a well-calibrated CableMods order looks like.)

I've done the impossible. My everest is conquered! I decided to give it another go before bed since who needs sleep anyway. It took two more tries and I had to take basically every screw out of the frame twice to get my gpu to fit twice while routing the PSU cables. So to summarize.
  • The Asetek AIO will fit with an EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 but there is VERY little room.
    • Looks like everyone else with blower style GPUs have a lot more room to work with.
  • EVERYTHING has to line up perfectly.
  • I used the custom Corsair cables.
  • I used a 92 mm fan guard to prevent the fan from being jammed.
  • All of my power cables were pushed to the GPU side. I forced the SATA power and 2x PCIE power to the front side of the case and I routed the ATX and CPU power to the back and fanned the cables out as flat as I could. If that pile was too high the GPU would be too high and I couldn't close the top.
  • I routed the CPU power and ATX power underneath the motherboard from the GPU compartment. This required removing the motherboard to fit the CPU power cord under there.
  • Since the PCIE power cables were so long I had to bunch them up and pull through the opening to the CPU area from the power supply area. They are tucked between my memory sticks and the power supply.
  • I routed the power extension cable through the front of the case, up the left side, and across the GPU.
  • I routed SATA power through the front of the case so I could power the SATA drive in the front and the SATA drive I tucked on top of the pcie riser for now for testing.
  • I used the Silverstone ultrathin SATA cable and this really helped for the front drive.
  • I ended up just bunching up all the remaining ATX and CPU power cables under the GPU as there wasn't anything I could really do with it.
  • I pushed the Asetek AIO tubes on top of each other so they could be jammed between the PSU and the fan which left plenty of room for the side panel to close.
  • I added a 40mm fan with a bread tie (temporarily) to assist cooling my nvme drive since there is no air flow.
  • I need to check VRM temps.

So, a rig with 8700k and XX aircooler+YY fan and a good cable rooting is less/equal or more effcient than a rig with an asetek aio and a stressed compact wall of cable everywhere?
I'm courious and would be fine to see some "numbers" from you guys, something like:

cpu: 8700k XXXGHz - cooler: XXX + YYY FAN - cable: ZZZ - additional fan: HHH
idle temps: PPP - load temps: BBB
note: blablabla...

With some numbers probably all we can understand what is worth doing and what is not?

(ah, and if anyone else is trying to put an X299 in here, please stand up/please stand up/please stand up/ nanananana...)

Yeah I think some went with the air cooled build with a a couple of fans (92mm and 40mm) already. Would love to see a comparison with aio builds :)
