NVIDIA has published their financials from fiscal 2018, and they are as you would expect. NVIDIA had a record year with GAAP earnings up 41 percent from last year, making their revenue $9.71 billion. While the release does not say what areas NVIDIA had what gain in, Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA Had this to say:

"In a powerful sign of our progress, attendees at NVIDIA's GPU Technology Conferences reached 22,000, up tenfold in five years, as software developers working in AI, self-driving cars, and a broad range of other fields continued to discover the acceleration and money-saving benefits of our GPU computing platform.

Industries around the world are racing to incorporate AI. Virtually every internet and cloud service provider has embraced our Volta GPUs. Hundreds of transportation companies are using our NVIDIA DRIVE platform. From manufacturing and healthcare to smart cities, innovators are using our platform to invent the future."

That is some amazing growth. I would really love to see what markets the gains were in though, but unfortunately it does not have those details. There isn't really any mention of desktop graphics in Huang's quote though. Thanks to Blah Blah for the story.

Looking at their revenue trend, gaming revenue is $1.739 billion in Q4, professional visualization is $0.254 billion, datacenter is $0.606 billion, auto is $0.132 billion and OEM/IP is $0.180 billion.

kept the stock low; profits look stellar nVidia

Thanks for that, nice to see gaming is on top, despite their pushing of self driving cars and datacenter.

Indeed, but we might see a day when their datacenter revenue overtakes gaming if Nvidia keeping seeing that kind of growth.

Fuck financials, announce a new geforce.

Lol....
Why release a new geforce when you can keep milking the 2016 tech (pascal) that AMD still cant compete with?
They are tweaking their yields of Volta with all this extra time available.

Curious to see how they price the new cards in a way to not canibalize gtx 1080/1080ti.
I predict mid grade cards release first (gtx 2060 & gtx 2070), this way they can still sell 1080/1080ti for high dollars with no competition from AMD high end.

Because they're Nvidia and there's no precedent for that; it's not their MO to hold up a new gen indefinitely simply because they're running circles around AMD. Late Q1 announcement followed by late Q2 shipping for Ampere is still within their normal release cadence.

They'll deliver Ampere because they can, it's not a matter of "just MILQUING it" - they can't be both aggressive and coast. And Pascal is immune from whatever they price Ampere, since it's constrained and will remain so. This wont be like prior launches where they had store shelves full of previous gen cards.

Well whoopty freaken do! Nobody cares how much money you made Nvidia, we care about results, results in the form of Graphics cards!

Where's our damn video cards?! Not doing what their made to do, I can tell you that!

Gaming?? Mmmmmhmm.

Is that the kind of gaming I’m doing with 30 some 1080ti purchased in q3 and q4 having never bought a first tier card (before Q2 this year) in my life. Many of my friends are recently...dozen card + gamers too!

Signed a 38 year old IT guy with ~28 years of pc gaming experience using single mid tier cards, but only eight months of crypto mining experience using dozens of top flight cards all purchased in the span of half a year...

Yeah. Gaming!!!

Next time someone tries to insult me as a miner in any given thread—-I’ll just tell them Nvidia calls me a “gamer”.

You're right. Nvidia doesn't give a shit about gamers. Just money. Like a drug dealer. They don't care where the product ends up, just as long as they're paid.

I think the profits are quite well deserved when you make market leading products. Not to mention pushing the limits with R&D

That's a hell of a reach comparing nvidia to drug dealers lol. By that standard every company that wants to make money is on the same level as drug dealers. Risky business when so much has come from crypto. Let's hope they put that money towards research and innovation.

What happens if crypto doesn't slow down for years? Will gamers be stuck with 1050 class performance unless they want to pony up a grand for a 1080?

I'm not anti-NVIDIA, but did you forget the existence of the 8800 GTX/9800 GTX series?

Every other business is the same way, anyone that believes otherwise is a fool.

Most businesses stole the "first try is free" from drug dealers, also allowing credit, etc. etc. etc. Drugs have been around since humans, look up some history, also illegal drugs weren't so illegal 100 years ago. I'm not for drug use or abuse, but I am for truth.

I'm sure this has something to do with something.

8800GTX one of the best GPUs they ever made.. but it's also 11 years ago.

I think you have to remember when NV mentions gaming professional visualization, enterprise/datacenter, AI/auto, and OEM/IP they are talking about internal segments of their business and not who actually purchases or external uses for their products. Gaming includes more than gaming GPU's. Because they made cards good at crypto does not change what internal segment they come out of nor does it mean miners are gamers. NV understands crypto are not gamers.

NV won't change their segment naming for a volatile use such as mining. Segment naming is for business segmenet reporting, accounting, and business management only. NV understands crypto is using their GPU's and all reps from NV has publicly said they AREN'T gamers.

You're right. Nvidia doesn't give a shit about gamers. Just money. Like a drug dealer. They don't care where the product ends up, just as long as they're paid.

This is a BS statement! Same goes for people who say the same about AMD.

IF NV/AMD didn't care about gamers then neither would do or say anything about the issue. I am not talking about ramping up production. That could just go back into "NV is making more just to sell to miners!!!"

Neither have increased MSRP's of their products. NV has in fact spoken out about the current pricing on GPU's and asked eTailers/retailers to put a stop to the gouging. Remember, gouging is not done by AMD or NV. If NV/AMD suddenly doubled the MSRP or the actual cost of the card then I can see your point.

Both have asked partners to find ways to make GPU's available to gamers. From buying restrictions to combo sales only. Yes, I know it doesn't stop miners from using different cards or delivery addresses but it is something.

NV has changed their TOS to not allow GeForce cards in data centers. Don't forget companies were buying Geforce cards rather than enterprise cards for $8000.

Neither AMD or NV could have seen the demand for GPU's jumping like it did and production numbers are set months if not years prior.

But trying to say neither GPU manus "give a shit about gamers" is juvenile and BS. How would NV/AMD stop miners from buying their cards? What could NV/AMD do now to change your opinion?

From both of their actions and statements it appears both GPU makers do care about gamers but they are facing an uphill battle just like us gamers. Until crypto crashes or slows like it did in the past there is no simple way to fix the availability of GPU's.

Again, they don't care. As long as their making money & selling out their silicon. Don't kid yourself. All of their lip service to gamers is just a PR move.

@Cr4ckm0nk3y

You missed the point...

At best what Nvidia said in their PR statement is a lie of omission

At worst it's outright deception and should potentially be evaluted by the SEC.

Let's read it again:

Keep in mind the context that nVidia is up a whopping 41% in 2017, over 2016 in profits!!!

CEO says:

So he lists........pretty much everything but the gaming category as the reason why they are up in 2017.

Except those things aren't what made 2017 a banner year with 41% pofit increase. It was the gaming division - but not really the gaming division - rather the Crypto market that they convieniently hid in the gaming sector. If crypto outright died today - 2018 would look like gaming sector fell off the side of the planet --- that wouldn't be accurate at all. It would be more accurate to establish a crypto subcategory in their 2017 financials, and be transparent to the investors.

So think this through --- WHAT INCENTIVE DOES NVIDIA HAVE TO HIDE (or not make obviously public) THAT CRYPTO IS WHAT DROVE PROFITS TO RECORD HIGHS IN 2017? (to potential stock investors excited to see a 41% profitabaility gain in one year --- by a huge/established mainstream technology company - where profitability gains like that are unheard of??!!??)

The answer is so obvious I won't belittle anyone to write it down here.

I have to disagree with you on this. Most people with large farms are buying and don't care what NV says, or they are buying from a large scale vendor that never asks and doesn't care. They can say you have to call them Susan in the TOS, doesn't mean it is enforceable. Most people that mine will just eat the cost of a few broken cards and really don't ever talk to NV.

That is fine if a company that has many servers want to use GeForce, it's just NV may say "we don't support that." NV can shake a piece of paper all they want, and ask you questions when you call in and deny service, but so what? It's a cover your ass CYA move.

It's more marketing to try to make the Gamers or anyone that wants to buy a card feel good. It's what any company would do, to get as many cards sold as they can.

^In other words, talk is cheap. (;

Actual FPS or hashrate is never cheap. Our unit of value measurement (USD or other fiats) isn't static. True value always adjusts accordingly if the base unit is diluting... Don't be static! Trillions are the new Billions... .
