Big if true: Deadline is reporting that Netflix is releasing the third Cloverfield film, “God Particle,” immediately after the Super Bowl. As noted by the author, this would be a groundbreaking, unprecedented move.

The latest Cloverfield is directed by Julius Onah and takes place on a space station. Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Bruhl, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Chris O’Dowd, Ziyi Zhang and David Oyelowo. There is a chance that Netflix changes up their game plan at the last minute, but this is what Deadline is hearing at this moment.

Ground breaking? Advertising something in the Super Bowl is groundbreaking? A bit hyperbolic it seems to me. Of course I don't watch the SB or stream, so maybe I'm missing the point.

Just logged into Netflix and it opened with an "Available to watch right after the game" message.

Advertising at the Bowl and releasing immediately after is pretty groundbreaking. Its something that has never happened. A pretty smart move on Netflix's part.

Great.
A new shaky film.
Like we haven't had enough.

Might watch. Glad I saw this on [H] front page because I sure am not watching overpaid clowns take a knee.

Yeah, sure to piss off those who were hoping to grab the ratings bump from the SB lead-in.

From what I've heard - this Cloverfield movie was a random sci-fi movie that the producers picked up and changed into a Cloverfield movie. As long as it's not shakey-cam I'll check it out anyway.

I just read the description of the movie on Netflix. I don't understand how you take 3 movies that are supposed to be related and none of them deal with any of the same material.

10 Cloverfield Lane was the second movie.
Widely available for streaming.
No shaky cam on that one so it's easier to watch and a sadistic john Goodman is awesome.

I enjoyed the movie, and it was more of trapped movie than a sci fi, but I don't quite think it was as good as a lot of the beaming reviews found it. Just a good psychological horror in a bloated category that often has way more misses than hits. I'm also one of those people that will watch any sci fi movie that's not made for tv in the hopes that one might squeak through the cracks and hit.

Here's 2 must see movies of last year that honestly blew so many other high budget films away that I can't help but want to share their success.

The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Vol. 1
RAW (AMAZING MOVIE. Almost my movie of the year selection. Can be hard to find depending on your viewing habits. Pm me if you need a hand locating it.)

Yes, anything shaky cam is an automatic 1/3 drop in whatever rating I would give it. It's so nauseating.

Dolores Claiborne and Gerald's Game are related, but dont deal with the same material. An event is the same in both, but the storeis themselves are not connected (other than through The Dark Tower.)

RAW (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4954522/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) is available on iTunes and VUDU. I am assuming, of course, this is the one you are referring to.

As has been stated, it's three movies revolving around the same incident without sharing the same characters. The first movie is the only one shot with the shaky cam, I think that fad died, as it should have. I just finished Cloverfield Paradox, it gives an explanation for the creature and the other shit in part two. Some unresolved stuff at the end of three though so, hopefully there is a fourth. Part two is good, if only to see Goodman being a crazy ass.

nothing special at all for the 2nd movie. It's just another monster-alien thriller.

what set the 1st one apart from all others was the budget to set it in a city with satisfying levels of destruction. You lose the budget, you lose the appeal.

The second one required the viewer to sit through all but the last 10-15 minutes to see any kind of monster/alien, not sure that constitutes a monster-alien thriller. The third one is much the same, more of a sci-fi thriller than monster movie. Netflix definitely gave the third one a budget to do what it wanted, I didn't feel like I was watching a b-movie at all.

Thanks for the recommendation. RAW looks really interesting!!!

Stephen King does this. IT, The Shining, Dark Tower, 11.23.63 and many more take place in the same universe.

John Goodman -> "I forgive you."

10 Cloverfield Lane was better than the first and I liked it. I already knew what I was getting into though and will be checking out this third installment as well.

After watching the movie last night after the game - the Cloverfield connection was definitely an afterthought they just threw in. The few cut-scenes added into the movie (an onscreen segment where a scientist is being interviewed on the in-movie TV) and at the scene at the end were kind of obvious.

With that in mind, the movie could have stood on it's own, plot-wise. Earth going to hell in a hand-basket due to the environment / dwindling natural resources leading to a fucked up space experiment.

My big peeve after watching it, is they never explained the weird shit that happened. The wall attacking the guys arm. The walking hand. The weird magnetic anamoly that pulled the guys tools when he was trying to fix something - before the wall came alive, sprouting tenacles and killed him.

It doesn't have to, really. Cloverfield paradox just fucked the multiverse, and the station was at the center of that. How would that guys arm know where the gyro was, let alone have the cognitive ability to express that? The character that the arm belonged to in either of the universes shown would have no knowledge of that. The magnet wall thing I interpreted as the metallic stuff having the purpose of filling holes, but I don't know. We see several times in the movie where it seems like there is something external that knows what's going on and directly interacts with the crew for whatever purpose.

So do you need to see any other movies to enjoy and follow this new one?

This is a prequel of sorts to the first movie, and is, likely, in the same multiverse as the second movie. If you want to watch one before this one, the original Cloverfield is a good choice but not at all necessary.

Just finished watching this and I thought it was pretty good. I actually liked it better than the other 2 Cloverfield movies. I kinda hope they do more with this version of events.

I'm sure I'll be rushing out to not see this.......anybody else NOT rushing out to see this awesome movie??

"10 Cloverfield Lane" was a excellent movie. Worth seeing just for John Goodman's acting alone. Rated high on RT and even won a few awards.

But yeah that first movie was trash. Good thing they are hardly connected.

The problem with Cloverfield is it was originally meant to be an American answer to Godzilla, but utterly failed because to do that, you have to actually SEE the monster.

Since then, Abrams has just been repurposing other movies to build a mythos, which is why the series is so incoherent. Its more like a cinematic version of Outer Limits.

I am not sure what to think of the film. That one..... i think aussie guy with the beard....man I had a problem with his acting.....

Terrible movie, I switched and started watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Love that movie.

if you consider this movie as a satire, that it is watchable. Makes sense with the kitchen sink approach, bizarre physics , and the Chinese whom only speaks mandarin and everyone else speaking the same when communicating with her
