LG G4 bootloop class action settlement $425 or $700 credit towards LG phone

So it looks like I can get a serious amount of cash or credit from the class action suit. Which is surprising since class action suits typically reward only the attorneys with small amounts to claimants. Anyway, I already have an unlocked LG G6. Which of the 2 options is recommended?
1. Get $425 cash
2. Get $700 credit to buy unlocked LG V30 ($675 at bhphoto unlocked) and sell LG G6.

The LG V30 looks like an upgrade in almost every way: better cpu, more storage, high quality DAC. Only thing is I have heard some bad things about the oled screen.
 
Well it doesn't look like they're accepting more applicants for the class action suit, so it appears you're SOL if you didn't already apply earlier. I'd rather have the $425 cash than anything since I've already replaced my G4 ages ago. However for those who missed out on the class action lawsuit, they did extend the warranty to 30 months (from 12) so at least I can get this paper weight working again. Quick glance at swappa has this G4 valued around $80 unlocked....

If you learn anything about applying for the settlement if you weren't already a client, please share.

I contacted them and then the law firm emailed me last year so I am on the list. But I did not sign their document at the time (but I did sign it today!). So we will see if that means the credit/cash is still available.
 
I took the offer of cash, looks like it'll be sometime in March before any actual dispersements will happen unfortunately. As for the $700 credit thing, I think but I don't know for sure that it's $700 credit towards a purchase from LG itself, it's not a $700 gift card or something you can use anywhere but I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Hoping I can find a V20 in excellent condition to get with the $425 cash and then have some left over. I like the V30, I do, but the lack of the removable battery is where I have to draw the line, it's important to me and the rest of the hardware isn't THAT much of a vast improvement in my opinion over the V20.

The V20 to me is the last best hope I suppose, the last great flagship with a removable battery so, that's what I'll be on the market for if that settlement comes my way.

I'm using V20 and it's a great phone. You can buy them for $260 brand new on eBay.
 
Yep, I had a V20 for a short period of time last year, got it free when a friend upgraded (this guy, I swear, he buys new flagships every 2-3 months, it's crazy) and I did enjoy it for the short time I had it. Fantastic device overall, solid even in spite of having the removable back/battery, and of course a proper headphone jack with that DAC (my high frequency hearing isn't what it was a few decades ago in my youth so that didn't really matter that much).

Still, I wouldn't mind having another one so that's why I mentioned it: there's nothing else out there aside from a Razor Phone (just 'cause I like the design of it overall, I'm a large guy so I really don't like small smartphones).

But of course, if I could find an LG G4 that I absolutely new would never bootloop I'd buy it in a fucking second flat. ;)
 
Jesus, you can get Good/Mint V20s on Swappa all day long for not much more than $200. That's a helluva deal on a phone with its specs, but I guess you can expect resell to tank following a bootloop crisis like they had, plus all the promos LG tends to have only a month after launch. I remember one promo where they were basically paying people to take the G4 or V10 between carrier discounts and a gift card they were giving away with it. You'd be crazy to buy any LG phone at launch because they consistently tank in price within a couple months after release.
 
Agree with T4rd....no reason to buy pretty much any phone on launch unless you have to have it or need the financing

I disagree, just because of the sealed batteries. Functional battery life is already poor enough, and buying used means a portion of the life expectancy is already gone. Plus, way too many scammers and thieves in the used cell phone market.

We weren't saying to buy used. Just wait a couple months after launch and get the phone new at a significant discount because LG phones have always tanked in price pretty fast even when buying new.

I can see how you thought that though after I was talking about how cheap V20s are used, but I immediately followed that with how cheap you could get G4s new with promos going on soon after they launched.

That makes much more sense. LG has to be about the worst phone to buy at launch because of their extremely high depreciation, and the fact that they always offer huge discounts soon after launch.
 
I've got two LG G5s here in Canada. I'm guessing I'm SOL. Things always seem to work out this way. You guys not only get way better deals in the USA, but you get way better class action lawsuits also. :notworthy:
