Ubisoft is bringing out 4 new and updated editions of Rainbow Six Siege. But there is a twist aside from the normal "Season Pass." The "Starter Edition" of the game, available starting Feb. 13th for $19.99 (PC Only), has an "Extended time required to unlock Operators." Reading the "Starter Edition FAQ" tells us that it takes 12,500 Renown or 300 R6 Credits to unlock 1 Operator; Approx. 15 hours to unlock 1 operator using in-game Renown, vs. the "Standard Edition" ($59.99) and above taking Between 500 to 2000 Renown to unlock 1 Operator; Approx. 0.5- 2 hours to unlock 1 operator so between 12-30x more grind for buying the "Starter Edition." If that wasn't enough, they are adding loot boxes in the form of "Outbreak Collection Packs"

This is one of the biggest slaps in the face to gamers I've seen, and with the last couple years being the way they were, that's saying a LOT. Screwing over people with the "Starter Edition" and then charging $130 for the "Pay to Win" version with 3 years worth of boosters, and a 10% shop discount for a 3 year old game. And here I was thinking Ubisoft was getting better.

Over 25 million players have experienced the intensity of Rainbow Six Siege, and if you're interested in seeing what all the excitement is about, you'll soon have an array of new editions packed with bonus content to choose from. Read on to see the details of each edition so you can be ready to jump in when they become available on February 13.

Gaming companies doing this combined with high GPU prices makes PC gaming a bit stale.

Why invest in a new PC? Too expensive and no games worth buying at launch.
A decent GPU and Steam backlog can keep most of us from wasting money.

Basically "Fuck you here's a new shirt, shut up"

What? You missed the statement about the Standard Edition? It means the price increase is gone and therefore their attempt to reset the game's price is dead. Now, the Starter Edition needs that vital upgrade option to standard, but aside from that, this answers basically most of the community's problems.

This might be too little too late, as the PR damage has been done. Ubisoft basically gagged their "golden goose" of a game and tried to monetize it to its mortal end...

Jesus the $$$ they plan to loot from people is absolutely insane

How long until EA / Ubi just make users agree to allow their launchers to also utilize PC / GPU resources to mine bitcoins when no games are launched. Come on, squeeze a little more out of people while you're at it fellas....

Perhaps, but I'm gonna wager it won't have lasting damage on the game's population. Certainly this resistance will make sure future attempts will be highly scrutinized, but thats good!

I'm just making it my personal business to stay away from games like these. I also stay away from games with loot-boxes.

So that essentially cuts the games I can play a few. Luckily, my steam library will last me until the zombies come or the impending power outage.

Gaming for me these days is pretty much gone by the wayside. I miss the days of my Packard Hell 486/66!! Gaming was new, it was exciting and fun!! These days there are more bad reviews then good, it seems gaming is now more about poor quality titles that are released as betas, and what is the best way to fuck over the consumers to make $$$$!!

Agree. . ..and for me there are only two games (both FPS) coming this year that will probably be worth playing so I am sticking with the old iron for now. . .but my next upgrade may not be a PC. . it might be a console instead.

God, they are screwing the entire game scene up. It disgusts me to think someone has to pay to play.

I have friends that want me to play GTA online but all were upfront and told me that it would take me weeks and weeks of a lot of game play to buy stuff. Or I could spend $50 - $80 - $120 and buy my way into the game.

That's the problem with these games. The hurdles are so great that people are forced into buying into these games. It's a conflict of self interest.

They are lucky I do not own Walmart or Gamestop or Steam, I would tell them straight up, sorry guys, use your own platform to distribute your game. Not only will I not distribute your game I will actively use my position to speak out and hamper you at every turn.

Money is not everything.

This is like the only Ubisoft game that actually looks good, and yet they still ruin it with greed.

I shouldn't be surprised though, just look what they've done with Assassin's Creed.

Good thing it doesn't run on Linux, I can at least say that to the fanboys, without having to get their knickers in a knot, because their games are fucking rip-offs.

Anyone watch videogame dunky AC videos? They're a serious laugh, bugs all over the place!

Fucking jokers.

"Our passionate and dedicated fans are the reason why Rainbow Six Siege is a success, especially the ones who have been with us from Day 1."

Sounds to me like Apple gave them that lead-in; sounds very Apple if you ask me, you know, colorful ...

Never tired it, was one of those games that looked awesome as an E3 trailer and was dumbed down for release (animation/graphics wise).

Screw it I’ll be more honest, other than wildlands, Las Vegas made me dislike the series. Wish it was like it was in the old days, seriously enjoyed s crap ton of planning that was just thrown out the window....

Money is not everything.

Corporations has infiltrated our government, food, games etc.
Everything has a pay to play system. It's hard to enjoy anything these days without going into debt to obtain it.

The more expensive things get, the more we have to use a CC or take out a loan to own it.

Rainbow Six Seige is only $129.99 for the Complete Edition™. But wait... there's more.

For the low low price of only $19.99 you and your friends can get hooked on the Neutered Edition (previously called the Incomplete Version For Total n00bs Who Can't Shoot Well But Want To Learn to Shoot Other Stuff Too) where we will pretend to fix bugs for at least six months, stop fixing anything after resolving three, yes three, count them three game stopping bugs, and then force you to upgrade to a new version in just a few short years.

They're trying to see how far they can go. They know THIS is too far, but they want to see exactly how far they can go before the pitchforks come out.

I predict they'll apologize and then roll out something less offensive but still not great.

People are still buying this game? It was fun for a few months... but that was almost two years ago. How about developing something new (other than pricing) eh?

Blame the people who pony up. If I could sell my turds for $5 each, then in 2 weeks for $10 each and people bought them, I'd keep selling too.

It's just cosmetic stuff, not pay to play. It's also not gambling since you can guarantee the entire collection. Sure, it's $100 dollars but that's the price if you want it all.

A bit stale? It makes it stink like a pile-o-poo.

Game companies are taking how to make money lessons from Cable and Airline companies. How long before games have a "You want to activate that mulitbutton mouse?" in game purchase?

This end just up become a major disaster

Never. To this day, many AAA developers still have difficulty understanding that people may play with something other than a gamepad. You have to know something even exists in order to sell it.

The only way to say no to this kind of abuse is just don't buy the game. Once they see sales dropping they'll change or go out of business.

I haven't played a Rainbow Six game in many years. Looks like the trend will continue...
I spend my limited time and money on games I know I will like. Maybe I would like this one - without the rip-off stuff. Since it is in the game, I will pass.

I really miss the 90s and early 2000s PC game industry. It is funny how they were able to create a game that was: fun, had mod support, real server browsers, dedicated servers support, a game engine editor......and the game usually sold for around $50.00 new (don't forget that was also on physical media as well).
