I was a longtime member of overclock, but they have recently sold out to an advertising company and utterly gutted the home site. So here I am, gonna make this tech site my home from now on. Keep it real and lets go to the tech!

Yeah, I have been watching some of that unfold. Sad to see. I hope they get it all pulled together. Give them a bit to get their feet back under themselves. The transition could have gone a lot smoother for sure.

I would hate to say this, but OCN is essentially dead, they sold out to an advertising company that knows nothing about tech. The new admin doesn't even know the difference between bits or bytes and is asking for help on setting the site up. From the looks of it he has zero experience with html or admining a forum. It's heart breaking, was a member since 2008.

Even if they do get their stuff together, the majority of people that actually built the site and contributed will be gone. My wager is that it will be down 95% of all traffic after a month.

Took a week off from there to return to that.. mess..

This has been my main tech site for quite a while but I'd occasionally go over to OCN, pretty sad to see it in this state..

Well, we gotta plenty of room for those guys here. :) That's about all I can tell you.

Verticalscope, huh. They bought a frequent haunt of mine. They know nothing about its content either but they mostly left it alone other than a horrible site design.

I'm poor, can't afford ryzen but this 8320 is pretty beast at 4.6, and with 1600 1t it's responsive, maybe in oct I'll get ryzen.

was that not the site with the modified ECS k7s5a bios that enabled AGP fastwrite and SBA and some more FSB's
I remember using tons of those board because they where cheap and fast

They were trying to roll OCN over from Huddler to vBulletin. Not pretty. Not sure why anyone would move to vB at this point in the game. But sadly that does put a bit of handwriting on the wall.

all the forums i visited save for HWC have moved from vb to xenforo and i think it's for the better imho.

shame what ocn has turned in to.

the ads break their own TOS.

My number one priority when we moved to Xenforo was for people to come here an not realize we had even changed the backend.

That said, it was not perfect, but we had test servers setup and got 95% of the way there before you guys ever saw it.

They trashed avsforum with wall to wall ads.

And if I remember correctly pretty much killed home theater shack. (Or at least for me)

Lots of knowledgeable people over there.

I have the 1800X and 64GB of DDR4 3200 that I only ever got to 2800mhz with Twin Vega 64-LE's that I only changed the TIM on to cryognaught which actually had a massive effect. Much further then expected as they default to 1630 all day. I am going to only upgrade 1 part this year. I want a Ryzen+ to drop in. :)

I've noticed that with a few car forums. Some were affected a bit more than others, but for the most part, other than hating the generic design they plaster everything with, I'm still indifferent.

That design is easy to spot on any forum.

Send me your picture of Dr. Evil
LIke this?

I used to work for VerticalScope back in 2011. If you think OCN is barely recognizable now, just wait til the ads are injected everywhere. VS bought the forum to sell ads on, not to "support the community" as they'll tell you.

....the ads break their own TOS.

No, because the existing OCN TOS is for the members, not the owners. And eventually the TOS will change to VerticalScope's generic one they use on almost all of their sites.

spot on...they dont care at all about the community or the content...its all about selling add space...they have ruined several motorcycle forums I was a member of..and im sure they will ruin many more

Kyle, what ever you do, don't ever sell this forum. I bet all of us members could chip in a couple dollars to you and keep this place in the [H] family if the time were to ever come. I doubt that would ever come to be though. Seeing all these other forums including ATF which I was a moderator, when we switched over to Xenforo with Purch and they infused an insane amount of ads, I just couldn't moderate anymore due to how slow the forum ran and the overall super mod tools were all broken and all the history as well which made it difficult to see who did what in the past. Oh well, glad I am retired out of that forum... or at least I think I am.

Oh and we moved to Xenforo to two years ago, and some folks did not even notice...which is exactly the way we planned and executed it over a number of months. :)

OCN refugee here. I can't even securely login to OCN anymore. I'll be spending my time here from now on. It's a shame it had to end like this but at least it had a good run.
Sorry to hear that. I truly hope that OCN gets its shit together. Great community there and not good to see it shattered only for the want of cash...

Oh. So thats what happened. Didnt make the connection but still visit from time to time. Kinda irked that "twit" no longer has podcasts of wilkinson, but dont see why he didnt just start his own.

VerticalScope has been trying to purchase our forums for years. I absolutely wouldn't do that to our community. The issue is that many forum owners have no idea how to monetize the platform effectively.
