Thor Ragnarok was due to be released digitally on February 19th. As we all know, as soon as that happens, the released movie shows up on Torrent sites. However, it seems that a few of those folks that "pre-purchased" the title on Vudu this week, found that the movie was available for immediate download on iTunes. And it was in no way supposed to be available for download before next month. I would have loved to have heard the conversations between Apple and Marvel today. One insider reported to use directly, "Oopsie." That all said, it is a terrific movie, go see it in the theater if you get the chance.

“I pre-ordered Thor Ragnarok on Vudu yesterday and it links it to my iTunes also,” the user explained.

“But curiously it showed up in my iTunes library this morning (pre-orders shouldn’t). And now I can watch the full movie in HD. I obviously downloaded it right away. I know its supposed to come out February 20th.”

Now waiting for Apple to delete the movie of everyone's devices...

actually I don't know if they would do that.

So when does Disney buy Apple? I hear they may purchase Tide and it has recently become very popular.

Was wondering how a perfect blu ray rip had already gone up on the torrent sites before you could legally purchase it. It's one thing for torrent scene groups to delay releasing a good copy before the movie hits actual theatre street date, but they don't give a flying fvck about the digital sales.

Yes but if I was that accurate I'd need spoiler tags, it's your forum so, who the hell is gonna tell you you can't? :D

Thought Apple and Disney sat on each other's Boards anyway.

Someone will say Oops, and they will chuckle over scotch, and then laugh because people are paying $30 each to get the file anyway and they just got a bunch of "free" advertising.

Pretty sad that I can't even order the blu-ray on Amazon, yet I can download it for free.

That pirated copy will not have the stupid unskippable previews that the blu-ray might too.

Honestly I'd say they should bump up the release if they have the physical disks ready to go.

What really stinks is it's technically not legal to rerip the blurays yourself after buying them to exclude all the crap you don't want.

Cate Blanchett is delicious as big sis Hela. Of course, Hela really isn't a sibling of Thor in the comics realm, but that altered state is easily overlooked when you see Cate in her Hela costume. ;)

People preorder digital movies? Hell people use Vudu?

I have Vudu, just because some movies had a code with the bluray. I just add the code to my Vudu and my sister back in the states can watch whatever I buy that gets a code.

I wouldn't buy a digital movie though. It'll more than likely miss bloopers, cut scenes, extended endings, etc while costing the same as a physical copy.

I can't believe Tony Stark was cockblocking Captain America, Capt. was so close to getting her in bed too.

Yes to both. Using Vudu ties into your digital lockers programs of Ultraviolet and whatever that new one is (Movies Everywhere?) so if you have a digital movie from purchasing a physical copy you can watch it through that long with other programs. As for preorder, i do that from time to time when i see that a movie will be coming out so that once it is released I will have it next time i go to bring up my list of movies. Similar to preordering digital games. Also given that Vudu is owned by Walmart, you can preorder both a digital and physical copy. You get the digital copy when released then they mail you your physical copy once that ship date comes.

Ah, Walmart. Thanks for that info, no thank you on Vudu.

What I mainly used Vudu for is for all my Disc to Digital conversions, which gives me the ability to convert almost all of my older SD DVDs to 1080p HDX digital copies for a small fee ($5 for DVD to HD, $2.50 for Blu Ray to HD. 50% off when you convert 10 or more). It's cheaper than buying them all over again. And now thanks to Movies Anywhere, just about my whole digital library in Vudu is also accessible on iTunes. Other than that, I did have a couple of movies on Vudu that came from digital copy codes supplied with DVDs/BluRays that refused to offer an Apple iTunes digital copy option.

As for whose fault this is for releasing too early on iTunes, Disney/Marvel is just as much (if not mostly) to blame. They are the ones that submitted/uploaded it to iTunes and are responsible for when it becomes accessible to the public. If they didn't upload the master copy to iTunes so soon, this wouldn't have happened. Once I had an issue with a movie/show on iTunes and had to speak with support to get it resolved. IIRC and understood what Apple support was saying, the owner/supplier of the digital video has quite a bit of control over the digital content that resides on the iTunes servers.

One of the few movies that I actually pre-ordered. I found it yesterday morning ready for downloading...grabbed it and took it out of my itunes library just incase....It still plays for me.

Itunes movies are not perfect bluray rips, they look like complete ass.

You need a better TV.

She was Hela hot in that movie. Even Surter couldn't hold a candle to her.

So let me get this straight, they had the movie ready to be downloaded but not released. So an artificial delay much like what I have been saying for years only they typically claim its for "post production". Nonsense...I applaud apples "courage" to expose their lies. ;)

It could be held to get the physical media ready and shipped everywhere but yea mostly an artificial delay.
