i haven’t gamed in over 10 years. Budget is 1000-1500. Must be able to play Call of Duty and room for growth. What’s the most bang for buck out there? I rather just buy it but if it’s better to with something semi robust and add a GPU and PSU then I’m okay with that too.

Not a good time to build. Prices are outrageous. Would not buy a pre-built system though.

CPU: Ryzen 7 1600
RAM: 8GB DDR4
MB: X370 Motherboard Socket AM4
Graphics: GTX 1060 6GB (If you can find one)
Power Supply: 750w PS Corsair or EVGA
Case: Coolermaster Master Case 5 (or whatever you want)

Will be more than enough for COD & will give you room to upgrade the Processor when AMD launches Zen+ this march, if you choose.

That system is extremely overpriced.

Over priced for a complete system? Or overpriced in that you can build it cheaper? This is for my friends kid and honestly I don’t want have to install an OS and antivirus and be free tech support.

It’s a good machine in the current environment of unavailable GPUs and super expensive DDR4 RAM.

Other machines you might consider are something built from cyberpowerpc, or powerspec pc if you have a microcenter nearby.

Nothing wrong with that MSI system though. I totally get passing off support. As often as I get pegged to build PCs for someone —- and the web of expected support that comes with that.....I totally get it.

I'm totally with you now on the premade system - often systems that are tagged with "gaming" logos and marketing lingo will absolutely gouge you. I would suggest finding a brand name tower, and then replacing the GPU/PSU from the FS/FT forum. But, if it's their money and they aren't relying on you to get the most bang for the buck, just go with your instincts. At the end of the day, if the kid is happy and the parents are satisfied with what they spent, then you did your deed.

Get him an Xbox one x. Most games now are ports from the console anyways.

0 customer help from you as well! Haha..no os no antivirus.

Yea you will from thst point on be the go to guy for every problem. He will never have to think to figure crap out and neither will the parents.. just call so and so.

I mean atm.. video cards are scarce and prices flying and memory is crazy as well.

Xbox One X, and a Chromebook --- really isn't that bad a choice.

Really didn't think to ask if he has an X-Box or PS4. I'll make that suggestion as well. Thanks

You don't even know if they own a console, but you want to buy them a $1200 gaming computer?

I didn't say I wanted them to buy anything and I'm not their gaming psychiatrist. They asked for a recommendation for a gaming PC and that's what I gave them. The kids parents are an engineer and a doctor their budget was $1500 so $1200 and I don't have to provide tech support is fine.

youll be giving tech support believe me! Those premades are usually a mess. Lots of luck! and change your phone number :)

he may be 11 years old at the most so I'm pretty sure anything with lights will be cool. Thanks for all the input.

Over the years I learned never buy or built friends and family computers. You will forever be their tech support and will be expected to do it for free. Out of my entire family me and my brother are the only ones capable of fixing computers. Everyone else is pants on head retarded when it comes to computers.

lol i know that feeling.. pretty much got to the point where i just say "google" anytime they ask me something computer related..

but saying that given the kids young it's definitely a good teaching tool so that he's eventually able to fix things on his own since that was the way i was taught as a kid. my uncle helped me build my first system when i was 9 and pretty much told me it was my responsibility to figure out how to fix things on my own(even though he'd help me when i was completely stumped).

Idk. Kid seem to not be interested in learning about computers nowadays. All they care about is their iPhones and iPads. Tried to teach my nephew's but nothing stuck. How many time I went over there and half their browser was full of different search tools installed. They just click yes for everything that pops up. Kids are like that stupid iPad commercial where the kid goes "What's a computer?"

Best way to get a system for cheaper is to buy a pre-built and then start upgrading later on.
