WPA3 will protect against the WPA2 KRACK exploit, along with others...the first draft outlines four new features for both personal and enterprise wi-fi networks...the wi-fi Alliance didn't go into great detail, but did say two of the features will offer strong protection even when users choose weak passwords

The two other features both offer better encryption...one is "individualized data encryption" in open networks, such as those found in public places, ensuring that data between your device and the router can't be easily snooped...and the other is a stronger 192-bit security suite, which the Wi-Fi Alliance says is aligned with the Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite from the Committee on National Security Systems...

The open wifi encryption improvements are long overdue. This is welcome.

Sounds good. Will existing gear like Unifi and other enterprise support this or will there be a need for all new chipsets/hardware

I'd guess new hardware would be required ONLY IF there are radio upgrades. This, to me, looks more like a software update.

So...no hardware upgrade necessary? We'll see, but I wouldn't expect to upgrade hardware at this time.

Probably no reason why most existing WPA2 capable devices couldn't support it with a firmware upgrade. Guessing vendors will take the oportunity to encourage the purchase of new hardware by not providing updates for most existing stuff.
