More and more it seems like cryptocurrency is the buzz word investors are looking for these days and this held true yesterday when Kodak announced their new cryptocurrency, KODAKCoin. Investors liked this news so much (WARNING auto play video) that Kodak stock doubled. By the way, the new coin is for photographers and is going to be used on their image rights management platform. However, I think this is getting out of hand. A fool and his money are soon parted.....

Several other companies in recent weeks have been rewarded with sharp rises in share price after announcing their transformation into cryptocurrency businesses.

“This is getting ridiculous,” said Dennis Dick, a proprietary trader at Bright Trading LLC in Las Vegas. “From a fundamental point of view, none of this makes sense.”

Ahh, Dennis... this is ironic. You work an industry where the ups and downs are predicated on the potential for ups and downs, or simply the rumor of the potential for ups and downs, and you think this is ridiculous?

Honestly using blockchain to protect content creators (photographers in this case) makes some sense.

I don't see why you need to tie it to a cryptocurrency, but whatever.

Potentially a very good move:
https://kodakcoin.com/

It is a token that will keep track of your copyrighted material, also a smart contract giving terms/conditions etc. with the image. This alone may have the professional photographers flocking to Kodak. Getting paid for that $100, $1000 or $100,000 image or capture vice it being stolen will probably play out well.

Yeah, this is in my top 10 of the stupidest things I read today.

I'm going to introduce PonziCoin.™ Oh, or maybe RobUBlindCoin.™

No wait...I've got it: ConUCoin™.

Too on-the-nose?

How about MadoffCoin? Or MortgageBubbleCoin?

lol, at this time, Kodak stock has tripled from Jan 8 to Jan 10. You don't even have to have a working new item to triple your stock value. The token is limited in scope and looks to be very workable in that each image can have individual contract associated with it. Something that would be very hard to do with fiat currency and a separate contract.

This is Brilliant.

Basically this is a re-introduction of the Company store and Company Script.

Take Amazon, the introduce their own currency, which then you can only use to buy stuff on their store, and anything you sell the local currency gets converted. Most governments don't recognize crypto currencies so this lets them avoid taxes and move it around the world with no one paying attention. It also creates a closed loop system that they control.

BRILLIANT

I wish I would have realized this sooner.

This is going to be the new wave... now we have the question. Is the value of the currency defined by the value of the company and it's product or the support of it's block chain?

I'm not going to buy into crypto. But I might use some CPU/GPU cycles to see if I can make a few bucks off of it before it bottoms out. ;)

It just occurred to me. Imagine if a government.. like say... the US or China, or Russia even, decided.. I'm going to take this super computer capable of 100+ Teraflops of computation and dedicated it to a specific block chain. Then I'm going to sell the bottom out of these currencies. Would it really be all that hard to do? It would either drive the computational cost per "unit" up so high that nobody could compete and reap any sort of profit, their by killing the coin when they stop... or give them such a domineering piece of the market for that currency that they can kill it with a sell off.

The stock market is full of fools, otherwise it couldn't function. The big push of cryptocurrency, no matter what type, is entirely due to hype, and those pumping it up will have a huge payout while everyone else gets fleeced.

Wonder how long it's going to take for EA to create EA-coin, their investors would go crazy over that! The pyramid scheme continues to scam fools....

Will a government ever chance it's currency to a cryptocurrency ran country? "Rubles are no more.. we are changing the backing for our currency to cryprocureency.. in this case.. RUBEcoin."

Will a company buy itself out with it's won crytocurrency? "Kodak in an unprecedented move has bought out itself using it's traded cryptocurrency value as it has spiked to unheard of numbers."

If a government makes the move like I said above will that kill the "bubble" and turn it into a commodity? Only time shall tell.

Don't give them ideas. They don't need encouragement. "A cryptocurrency that you can use in all your favorite games!"

People were on tv telling you this was coming.... noone listend.

People are on tv, telling you cyrpto will crash....

there are people saying every little thing will crash. if somthing crashes its never hard to find someone who "predicted it"

See this idea from Kodak, look at my sig, laugh about it for a while, then see if anyone can tell me I'm wrong. ;)

Don't be too surprise if a country like Japan makes a cryptocurrency their currency, shifting away from their fiat version. Due to the volume of online transactions, value in the products transferred from games, games assets, images, music, art, video's, movies each with inherit value (not even physical but demanded by people) will be the first real large scale adoption of transferring assets/wealth/value over the internet and in stores since the value of the less tangible assets will backup the more tangible everyday assets or items.

[H]ardcoin anyone? Not to be confused with hard currency or should it?

Kyle -- urgent support request.

Please change my user name to RealBeast.coin and start sending me money for no reason at all. Thank you.

Well if Kyle had some public wallet addresses for donations for [H]ardOCP, I think many of us would be pouring some of our mining rewards to it. Hell just 4 Coinbase Wallet public address, BTC, LTC, ETH, BCH which can immediately be converted to $ to a business bank account for tax reasons would probably be easy to implement. I have not seen any of the big review sites do that, unless there is some reason for site's not to - the first ones would probably get a lot of attention and probably a lot of Crypto Coins to go along with it. The rigs we build here, that is the ones the members on this site tend to build, do very well, correction extremely well with mining and of course other stuff.

If successful I am sure others would follow rather quickly - :D

This will have competition from other cheap coins already along their way (poet etc) for artists

Set this up. I'll send some Kyle's way

Cryptocurrency might be a scheme, but as long as I'm making money on it, that's okay

Said everyone that made off with money from Madoff and every other scheme, but as long as you're ok with the world going into the crapper, so be it, right...

We never left the survival of the fittest, fit just doesn't mean physical strength anymore.

So it went from 30 cents to 90 cents? ;)

This wouldnt do anything. For starters with each block mined the next becomes more difficult, so it's not like the NSA could just mine out every remaining bitcoin and then sell them. And even if they did, keep in mind the value in any currency is scarcity. Whether the gov't holds all of them or the Winklevoss twins is irrelevant, people will still want them, and people will still be able to mine on the side until they are all mined up. If the gov't sold all their coin for cheap they'd just lose out on a windfall of money since you could come swipe in and buy it out and hold on to it yourself.
