I am having some difficulty installing the GTX660 drivers on windows 7 , Is this a Nvidia or Windows issue ? "Nvidia installer failed" . Insanely long download time as well ( tried to download an earlier one )

Where did you download them from? Or are you trying to use the built in updater in the NVidia control panel?

Downloaded from Nvidia , Version 388.71 which is the latest . Going to try and uninstall the current driver later and see if that helps . Why are these drivers so difficult ? I updated my BIOS with one click !

I just installed a GTX660 to my uncle (although Windows 8.1) without any problems. I used DDU (display driver uninstaller) prior to the install.

B00nie DDU needs .NET framework ,which I cannot get installed ( along with SP1 and visual C++ ! ) . Need those programs to get other programs to work , which is kind of ridiculous !

NOTE . I just ran a scan on the downloaded DDU file from Guru3d , and hbpix automatically downloaded !!

Sounds like the windows install is fubar'd. I'd start by doing a wipe and reload.

I'd also test the HDD while I'm at it.

DDU's saved my ass a couple of times, sadly it's ability to completely block Windows 10 graphics driver updates is all but dead though....

Still a great option for completely wiping drivers and starting again though. You're installing with Admin privileges aren't you?

Just did a clean Win 7 pro 64 install on a separate hard disc from CD ( something went pear shaped with the OS ) , all updates inc SP1 went well and listed as "windows up to date" But , SP1 is listed in update history as successful , but not listed in installed updates and still not . I installed ( so I thought ) SP1 first . Can anyone please explain why this is still not getting installed ?

Any time I start getting this kind of weird ass behavior, I start suspecting the powersupply or motherboard.

But let's run this down logically. You a) installed OS on clean drive ( same computer ) b) put it on network ( did you have to install any network drivers? ) c) immediately went to windows update and patched it up.

Is that about right?

OK , so windows update informed me of a load of additional updates ( Less than a day after "up to date" ) including SP1 ( again ) , so I let it do its thing ( again ) and bingo it is now listed as win 7 pro service pack 1 (Build 7601 ) , and I have two listings in Update history . Now all I have to do is find the product ID in the original hard drive !
Windows completely baffles me ! Now I have the third bunch of updates ( after 2 days and twice being informed that the system is up to date ) , this time for 200 new updates !

Are those newer drivers compatible with that old card?

Yes the driver pack from Nvidia , 388.71 and Every thing else is working well ( touch wood ) new windows 7 pro installation , upgraded to SP1 , .Net and visual C++ . Card is working well , tested it on Assassins creed Black flag , and apart from a little stutter ( and Many other , far more powerful , cards have the exact same problem ) works flawlessly . My expectations have been exceeded .

I have a GTX660 SO and every time I updated the drivers it introduced another problem or issue. I found a stable version and haven't updated since nor am I. 347.88
