For the [H]ard|DCer of the Year, there is no nomination thread because the only worthy candidates are the [H]ard|DCer of the Month winners for the current year.

The poll to choose a winner is done in 2 steps: The first poll will include all 12 winners for the current year and we select only the best 4 winners which will participate in the next round.

If there is a tie in the first 4 ranks, the tie winners will move together. In the second round, the one with the most votes will be declared the winner but if there is a tie, a runoff vote will be held.

Each step will last 10 days.

Time to vote! This is part one of two.

Does it count for DCotY ?

"GDI"??? Ohhhh. God Damn It?

To be honest, Pocatello, this one is a little harder for me to talk trash on.

For the most part, I can out perform just about anyone on the team; provided GPUs aren't involved. Frankly, if I wasn't for the firepower I'm able to bring to bear, we wouldn't have fared as well in numerous projects / competitions as we did.

That being said, despite being a one man wrecking ball, the vast majority of points I generate isn't from hardware I own. :borg:

I have a lot of respect for Skillz for all the recruitment he did. Just massive. (y)(y)

ChristianVirtual has been doing a lot of tireless work on getting the old website back up, along with all sorts of cool reports. What's more, he seems willing to try and implement others ideas for said site vs. just making it all about him.

All the other fellows (correct me if I'm wrong; but I do believe we have a dearth of ladies here) are all damn good people banging out points with aplomb. :notworthy:

But... yeah. Unless GPUs are involved, "my" silicon army crushes each and every one of you. From a strict points-are-points perspective, I pretty much "win" hands down. You all know it, too. Don't make me take my ball and go home. :ROFLMAO:

Believe me, I'm a competitive person and I want the HDCOTY 2017 title... but aside from some good natured ribbing, it's hard for me to talk any serious shit for the above mentioned reasons. :p

Agreed.

Lots of great DC'ers on the list this year!

After seeing the "food" you put in your mouth I can't trust anything that comes out of it. Sorry.

So I should get multiple titles this year?

Chief Recruiting Officer
Nominator of the Year

Seems legit that I should also be rewarded
Hard DC'er of the Year

More like chief whiner...

Remember when he took down all his 4Ps during our fight with team China last month, just because of moving or some crap like that?

Just kidding, we love you Skillz. Or at least bowner does.

*LOL*! That's a good one. ;) :D I mean, just moving, give me a break, man! :p

Pfft, I recruited enough people during that fight that my short absence during the late half of the race wasn't even effected!

fastgeek, I know your armys weakness. It's all about the proxy.

Also, you brag so much about points this, points that. You're not even in the top 10. :p

However, I am in the top 10 in BOINC and F@H.

So take that.

9th place overall in F@H. (Highest reached was 6th earlier last year before I switched to all BOINC)

Currently sitting in 6th place in overall BOINC projects.

Come at me with your points, bro.

I don't do F@H; they can lick my sweaty nut sack. ;)

You've probably been doing this longer than I have though. That and I took a... leave of absence... for the better part of a year or more before kicking back into gear late last year IIRC. Maybe we can have an apples-to-apples comparison for the year of CPU only? And no F@H? Nah... that wouldn't be fair. To you. ;) :D

Just like me bringing my GPU army to the fight isn't fair to you, at least I have somewhat of a CPU farm myself as well. ;) Where I can hold my own. With the new Intel CPUs I got from some reliable sources keep an eye out for a big cruncher coming online from me in the near future. ;)

Also I joined BOINC in December of 2015 during the WCG Christmas race. I didn't join other BOINC projects until 2017 when I participated in the Pentathlon and then took on the goal of pushing the team to dominating Formula-BOINC.

and I feel ya on F@H. That's why I haven't touched them since early last year before switching my GPUs over to full time BOINC.

Hmmmm. You want to have a head-to-head CPU competition with them fightin' words there, son? ;) Mind you, I still have a few 2P and 4P systems I haven't been bothered to find power/network for. Say a week? It should be... amusing. :D

ChristianVirtual can your stats engine help settle any of this good natured pissing match here? :ROFLMAO:

Only if I am allowed to use my real army of the recruits I recruited over the Christmas Race, Big Boy.

Either way, it's no secret that your company has deeper pockets and a lot more hardware than I do. How about you bring some GPUs to the fight.

Oh no. Of course not because why would you agree to a fight you know you can't win.

Maybe ask your company to purchase some GPUs this year?

No fair that the combined BOINC list doesn't even show WCG points. Although I'm aware why, I should be up on that list somewhere. I do only get to fold and crunch on hardware I own. ;)

That being said, I'm not going to be able to put the same effort in going forward. 2016 and 2017 were good years for my company, but sole proprietorships go through roller-coaster like changes. Some of the old guard are well aware of this fact, as there have been many contributors over the years that had to scale down from decreased business, job loss, or personal tragedy. That being said, I'll be focusing on family more in the coming years now that my daughter is learning to walk. These projects have always been like small creations to me. I build something, put it to task, watch it work, watch it age, and eventually retire it. Luckily I have escaped job loss and personal tragedy, but decreased business will be my downfall in 2018. I thank all of you, my teammates, friends, and even the trash-talkers, for making this a fun and engaging effort.

I will not cease my efforts, but they will be greatly reduced in the coming months. I look forward to getting mowed over by the next generations of teammates and contributors. And as always, I can't wait to see what the future holds, and what our combined efforts bring for cures, scientific progress, and technological breakthroughs. Congratulations in advance to whomever earns this award. It was well-earned.

-Marshall

It does show WCG points on the combined BOINC list. It just doesn't show yours because you're not part of enough other projects.

Also you only have 17M WCG BOINC points so you still wouldn't be in the top 20 combined BOINC list anyway.

Working on it ...

For the rest of your posting: every Workunit counts ... sorry to read about the outlook in 2018 and hope it get better soon. Take care about the family anyway should be higher priority. You have the prio’s right.

Well you really know how to take the wind out of a guy's sails, touché. (y)

Well I guess there's something to be said when I finally reach my goal of catching up with Musky on F@H. There was definitely a time where I thought that was impossible. Of course if he was still folding I'm sure I'd never catch up.

Congrats on all of the recruiting efforts lately. I see that counted for some votes in the polls.

MGMCCALLEY - for the most part, this is "fun and games" for us; folding/crunching that is. We do it in hopes that, by some miracle, a WU we crunched/validated turns out to be amazingly useful to the researchers running the project; this is why I generally prefer to run bio/med WU's. There's no doubt we also do it for (all in fun) pissing matches and badge whoring. That being said, our real world lives always take precedence over our virtual ones. You take care of you and yours. Everything else is secondary.

And, to everyone in general, every WU really does count. Don't be discouraged by looking at the stats some of us crank out. The TEAM needs all the help it can get... and sometimes that really does come down to just a few WUs making the difference between 1st place and 2nd.

Oh, and Skillz, we have *lots* of GPU servers in my working group that would make you cream your jeans. Unfortunately my projects don't use them. :( Believe me, I wish that I could "borrow" a GPU rack (yes, rack) for a week or two... that would be amazing!

You know, I'm really not that bothered by Skillz wining this poll and, quite likely, winning the honors.

That said... if we "run what we brung", mate, I'm still going to crush you. ;) :D

Pfft, please.

I can easily do 40M+ points per day with my army of GPUs and CPUs. You'll never touch that, Sweetheart.

Wow, this is pretty good. Maybe we should make the voting for HDCOTY last all year, and give us all additional votes each month, just to see how long they can keep it up :D

Looks like our two guys getting tired of the battle, looks like a locked race ...
