Steam Winter Sale 2017

I would recommend VR games only if you have a VR headset. :)

If you've got VR, Arizona Sunshine looks sweet!

Edit:
I think it's hilarious that the Tire pressure gauge thread is kicking the Steam Sale thread's ass this year.
Goes to show how mediocre steam sales have become.

Steam sales lost their "steam" when all the prices remain the same the entire sale.

Have to echo what many others have already said: The sales are so meh. Remember when Steam had insane discounts? I spent so much money back in the day because the deal was simply too good to pass up. Now very few of the items ever reach that sweet spot. Yes I can see how the goal post has been moved... moved completely out of range for me. With digital media, it's hard to understand how keeping software prices inflated and out of reach is more profitable than simply selling at a lower price. I guess generating that license or unique key is very expensive. On the bright side, my wallet is a bit thicker this season!

Don't they still do some crazy summer sale or something though? I seem to recall buying a bunch of crap during that.

Alot of tipping points for me would be just around $15 especially for >3yr old games. If GTA V was at $15 I'd have bought it by now. I'd imagine they'd make a shit ton more sales if the sale was actually a sale.

Agreed. I would make more purchases if that was the case. Would be fine paying $10-15 for games 2-4 years old. Less than $10 for games 4-6 years old. Under $5 for even older games.

I just bought it for the Xbox one for $23 durring Christmas at bb after the games 20% off.. think it may still be at $30 for non members.

I just got 3dmark11 for $1.99 lol.

Honestly I have yet to make a dent in my backlog, so any other purchase now seems rather fruitless.

This.

I am looking at a spreadsheet with ~660 Steam games, not counting GOG, Origin, etc. So in my case, it's not so much that "Steam sales suck." It's that I'm much more calculating these days than when games were so cheap that I picked them up "just because" (which is partly how I ended up with this backlog). That is, I don't binge and pick up 20 titles per sale like I used to, and that's OK. I might pick up 2-3 games which, combined with the other titles in my huge backlog and the smaller sales each week, is more than enough to last me until the next holiday sale.

Sure, I miss the flash sales and the big publisher deals too. But between the mid-week, weekend, and holiday sales I am up to my ears in games that would take me years and years to get through. And despite all this, I VERY rarely pay full price (or even more than $30) for big titles. Most are $3.49-$9.99, sometimes being $15-$20 for a newer title if I don't want to wait for it to get dirt cheap. That's very affordable for a hobby that typically provides me with many hours of enjoyment per game.

No shit you're more calculating, you keep track of your Steam library on a spreadsheet :p

Hey, at least it doesn't contain any formulas! :p

Really, it was started out of my own paranoia. Years ago, I had read reports of games disappearing from peoples' libraries under certain scenarios. I started keeping track of my purchases in a spreadsheet so that I could reconcile it with my Steam library if I ever thought that something was up. I don't think I've ever had a game go missing (to my knowledge it's only happened once), and although it was kind of a pain to put together initially it's been easy to maintain since then.

I'm an Excel nerd, so it gave me a pretty big laugh at work

too bad Resident Evil 7 didn't go under $20...wanted to get that but am fine with waiting a bit longer...

I ended up getting Talos Principle and a VR game (Nevrosa: Escape).

I enjoyed Talos. It's a puzzle game where you manipulate a laser beam to reach a certain point to unlock the next section. The puzzles are varied in terms of complexity and difficulty. Some can be solved quickly but some may take a bit of trial and error. I'm not the best at puzzle games though. The story also has some interesting topics and helps drive you through the game. There also a fair number of secrets and easter eggs to find.

If you like puzzle games I'd say you will probably like Talos. Maybe check a few youtube videos if you are still unsure.

GTA V is how old? And they still want to charge close to $25 for it. I want to get that game but I have such a huge backlog I'll guess I'll wait till GTA 6 comes out and the price hopefully drops to like $10.

Try getting "Dragonborn" for skyrim to finish off your DLCs....Tell me the TESL series is "50%" off and then have the DLC at full fucking price ($20) because you want me to shell out for the legendary edition.

I am firmly against gray market key sellers in almost every situation, but this is testing my patience.

Lowest I'm seeing GTA V for right now is $22.78. Purchased from WinGameStore before and they're pretty easy -- link.

GTA V is still really fun online. I just reinstalled it over this weekend, and there's a ton of new stuff from the last time I played.

Yeah, I have played and enjoyed Portal, The Turing Test, etc...I think it'll be good.

I bought it and asked for a refund within a few hours. Crashed 5 times in 2 hours with my new 8700k/1080Ti rig.... No thanks.

Speaking of puzzle games, I bought Aporia Beyond the Valley. Haven’t gotten to play it yet but it looks interesting for the price.

Yep, it takes a few hours to get into the witcher 3 once you get past the initial area. After that, game sucks you in like a dark hole.

I'll have to try it again. I only got as far as the first town and couldn't find the barracks. I'm not one for walking around talking to everyone in town trying to find out a piece of information. Playing WoW off and on for 12 years ruined me. I need it spoon fed now. Although I did really enjoy Skyrim.

I picked up Mass effect 1-3 a while back and I'm disappointed that it doesn't have controller support so I'll have to play it on my main PC.

.

I'm the same way, but Witcher 3 makes things easy. Just follow the mini map, and you can delve into as many side quests as you want (a lot of them have a pretty decent story to them).

If you aren't about the investigative narrative that The Witcher provides, then unfortunately, it's probably just not for you. It's a deeply narrative driven game, but the setting is a beautiful open world. If you don't like walking around and talking to NPCs to uncover the story and learn where to go next, I would say to not spend more time on it. That's unfortunate to hear, because it's an absolute masterpiece.
