Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

I will check this out next week after The Division's Global Event Strike ends next Tuesday(it's only for one week). I love Wildlands, enough to buy the DLC Fallen Ghosts so I will play this.

This looks good! Plus I'm a fan of the Predator.

Not sure what limited time means.... limited time to install it and then you keep it,
or limited time that it's available to play at all?

Do you get to keep the Predator add-on once installed or no?

.

There's a pack of cosmetics you can buy permanently, the mission of hunting down the predator is time limited.

I was still in tier 1 mode and got my ass handed to me by the predator and gave up for the night after 5 deaths.

Edit: got lucky and managed to get a kill

Wow, I had to disable Tier 1 right away when I first started. That wasn't good enough. Then I dropped down to easiest difficulty. Still isn't good enough.

So granting "I suck" freely... ;)

How did you do it and especially at that high of difficulty? All tips appreciated.

I'm not even going to attempt this....if it wasn't a timed event say I could tackle it 6 months from now.

This Predator has some abilities that exceed anything he was doing in the movies. Instant phase shift from one side of the jungle to another, for example. I don't think I'm going to be able to do this. Life's too short.

EDIT: It's because I'm solo. That Predator mission was clearly more designed for co-op. With nothing but unpredictable humans going against that everyone would have a better chance. I'll have to see what I can do.

I used the Spas-12 shotgun, SR3M assault rifle and the Skorpion handgun. The reason for these weapons is because they afford automatic fire at a relatively high rate.

I also frequently switched between night vision and thermal vision in order to spot the Predator and I was never out of either vision mode.

When you start the encounter there's an ammo crate in the middle of the map and southeast of the ammo crate there's a decline in slope that has two large trees you can run between and a giant rock northeast of the trees. I hung around there and I kept moving between the trees and the giant rock occasionally going up to the ammo crate for a very fast ammo refill because I was constantly shooting and throwing grenades.

The mechanics of the encounter are such that when it starts I used the shotgun because the Predator has a pattern of moving in close and at times appearing behind or near you and the shotgun was excellent at the start. Plus, I just really love a nice combat shotgun in any shooter.

At the mid part of the encounter the predator will then start targeting you with his laser sight but not actually shooting, I switched to the SR3M here because he was further away and I was able to chip away at him.

Towards the end of the fight he starts targeting with his laser sight and then shooting within 1-2 seconds so I kept moving between the trees and the rock so that I was under constant cover and when I saw the laser targeting me, I'd either go prone behind the giant rock or move behind one of the two trees until he shot at me and I would then have a 3 second window to shoot back as he would take time to reload and I was able to chip away at him by constantly moving and working on putting the giant rock or one of the two trees between us when he started targeting with the laser.

Here is the key: don't shoot first when you see the targeting laser, find cover and let him shoot first. I would always get killed if I shot first instead of finding cover because he always gets a one shot kill even if you start shooting at him first. Wait behind cover for him to shoot and then unload on him.

The other pattern I noticed is that if you're out of ammo or running low, its best to stay near the trees or rock and let him target and shoot and then you return fire with the Skorpion handgun to cause him to go back into camouflage mode and then you have around 6 seconds to haul ass up to the ammo crate and get a fast ammo refill then back to the two large trees and rock.

The area where the ammo crate is located is a death trap. The ground is flat and open and there are no trees around and if the Predator catches you out here then you have a high chance of getting killed even if you go prone. Avoid this area for more than a few seconds and only go to the ammo crate area for quick refills and then haul ass back to the trees.

At the end of the encounter he's gonna be down on both knees on the ground like in the following picture, run up, get your screen shot and haul ass because he starts laughing and then starts the giant ass bomb countdown like in the original movie and if you get caught in the blast radius you're toast.

The Cliff's notes version:
1. keep moving and shooting
2. don't get caught out in the open especially on flat ground
3. stay near a giant tree or rock so that you can move to put it between you and the Predator when you see the Predator's targeting laser, let him shoot and then return fire, don't shoot first when you see the laser because he always shoots even when he's taking fire and you will get slaughtered.
4. keep switching between night and thermal vision

I helped a friend earlier this morning, same tactics and we got another kill in tier 1 mode.

I'm Polydiol and I got caught in the blast radius to see what happened, I was insta killed and my friend had to come rez me.

I just want to add that I really appreciate how Ubisoft has supported the game by constant bug fixing and continuing to add more content over time. I've gotten way more mileage out of this game than I initially thought.

I also never imagined I'd be heaping praise on Ubisoft as they were anti PC quite a few years ago but have now seemed to embrace the community.

Awesome tips. Very much appreciated. I agree with you about your Ubisoft sentiments as well. :)

I just started playing this so I won't be hitting up the Predator just yet.

And here I was thinking I wasn't ever going to get this.

You and a lot of other people. ;)

This game exceeded a lot of people's expectations including mine. It delivers the goods.

I couldn't have disagreed with the bulk of the reviewers more strongly on this. This is way better than a 6/10 title for me and the robust post release support is to be commended.

Polydiol is going to be a hero on this forum if a bunch of us finally beat that damned Predator following his tips, which I intend to do to the letter.

I wish The Division was closer to this game's gunplay and combat mechanics vs its still (for me) absurd bullet sponging. Maybe meet somewhere in the middle for Division 2? But I digress.

I got it! Do exactly what Polydiol stated! I even did it with Tier 1 on no less.

The only things I did differently myself was I took out the need to ever reload ammo. How did I do that? No...no trainers or cheats. ;)

TAR-21 AR, Mk29 LMG (you can waste ammo with no regard here, D-50 pistol. No silencers, all options catering to damage as much as possible at loadout.

I used the pistol instead of the shotgun for that early part of the fight and then after that I just didn't care. Either one would have worked.

My goal was to eliminate the need to reload. It worked!

Not having to ever reload was huge and you just have to be patient, stay in cover, pay critical attention to sound (recommend good headphones), and just pick your shots.

I stayed crouched most of the time and hugged that rock and especially the first tree closest to it for the opposite side cover. Move fast, don't be "too jumpy" and yes, let him take the first shot. Don't worry about your squad or healing them. (If you're solo)

And yes, run up, take that screenshot and sprint out of there super fast! Thanks polydiol :D

I wish this game had New Game+ or some such. I really want to play it some more now after doing this. ;)

So do you need to buy some new crap to be able to play this mission, how do you even get to it?

Nope, just fire it up. You get a mission notifier, see the spot on the map, mark it and go.

Thanks, I found it. No, minigun tho. So I'm not that exited. Do you get any reward for killing it? Seems to be designed to annoy you rather than anything else. I didn't know the predator could teleport. You can hear it running then in 1 second it appears 200m away behind you running in the other direction. Also he's completely invisible both on thermal and night vision.

He's got some tricks he never had in the movies. ;)

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

^^ I did everything he said except I changed a a couple of the weapons with the idea to completely avoid need to reload because that ammo box is a deathtrap.

I was in thermal the entire time.

It's a frustrating fight to be sure, but I got it thanks to polydoil's tips. Marry yourself to the rock and those two trees SE of that ammo box.

I can't say the prizes are really worth much.

Watch starting around the 45 second mark for a little bit. He shows you what you win. Cosmetic fluff basically and some points and so forth:

How I beat Predator, before going in to the final yellow circle to do battle, activate both "diversion" and "guns for hires." If it's locked out, you've gone too far.

The rebels don't really do much damage but the Predator will be distracted enough to where you and you guys can pump a bunch of rounds into him. I tried the other way and kept getting downed.

Credit goes to some guy on Reddit

Also, some people have had luck using the Vector smg due to high rate of fire.

I just used a Spaz shotty and the mk249 LMG to put him down.

A good, longtime friend gifted me Wildlands on the 21st. So far I've been having a blast. What is a bit frustrating is I can see a target yet it won't tag it. Range, no matter the weapon or scope seems to be limited to roughly 500 meters. I've had clear LoS on targets as far away as 800 meters. Is there a setting or something I'm missing?

Bullet drop comes into play at range and it is funky how fast the rounds will start to drop off. I would suggest googling the ingame scope + rifle to get a correct Mils reading as many people have already done the maths. Now having said that, the next problem is the draw distance for npcs, for me, if I dont spot and tag with the drone they vanish from sight around 500 to 600 or so meters.

I usually rely a lot more on the binoculars and drone the most for spotting. I played solo.

This really is a good game. I've been chewing away slowly getting my Tier 1 levels up... or I guess "down" since it counts down to 1. ;)

The game really shines in co-op Q-BZ.

Everyone I met have been cool (adults) & all were mic'd so we can talk thru & execute a plan & then we just joke around.

The friends system is really good & I probably played 60% of the game online w/ with the same 6-7 people.

I've only met one jack-ass (he was very good, but also very conceited & barked orders & insulted people).

Appreciate the tip but I've been playing FPS shooters for longer than many members here. And, as an FYI, I'm a honorably discharged U.S. Marine. I know very well bullet drop is prevalent.

That's interesting. I'll give it a test with friends to see if sighting/targeting range improves.

Binocs nor drone aren't fully upgraded so that may be part of the issue. Seems funny that sniper rifle scopes suffer from the same issue, though. I can only spot targets less than 500 range. I can see them, just not tag them for the AI to kill nor get the range kill myself.

If I knew this it slipped my mind. Thank you for your service. :) (And all the help in the FO4 thread. ;) )

I would definitely try and prioritze maxing those out. The drone maxed out is huge. Great range. Silent.

You can't tag them, but you can kill them. You just can't adjust the scope in the game, so you have to aim above them, also It's a good idea to remove the suppressor if you're sniping from that huge distance.

I have killed them at long range. Sniped one at 576 meters (it is in my uPlay profile, AceHoleGoober) without having tagged the Tango first. I just find it odd that tagging (orange or purple circle appears above their head) doesn't occur on ranges longer than 500 meters.

Believe me you, I have no issues hitting a target at greater than 500 meters.

My best kill, so far, has been 480 meters through the tin roof of a building killing a Tango who was sleeping in a cot. Bastard never knew what hit him. :D

Gaming in Wildlands. Also, just picked-up the D-50. Love the handgun. Wish there was a silencer and higher capacity mag for it.

[Off-topic]

In real life the longest target I've hit was a 500 meter bullseye with a Vietnam Era M16. That rifle was way past retirement. Upper and lower receivers were looser than...lets just say they were loose. :p

In real life I've fired the M82 .50 cal sniper rifle, Serbu Bolt Action .50 sniper rifle and Desert Eagle .50 handgun. Serbu pics below. I've fired the Serbu standing up. A bit rough on the shoulder but not too bad.

D-50 is awesome. I owe that thing partially for beating the Predator.

Dumb question: In real life you can put a suppressor on cannons like the Desert Eagle and such?

Do yourself a favor and get this ASAP: http://ghostrecon.wikia.com/wiki/Lady_Killer It's arguably the best in the game for suppressed pistol with some power. Prior to that the P12 was my go-to handgun.

This is kind of lame but back when I was playing the main campaign on this I had a day of annoyance where I simply wanted to finally get serious about getting some of the best gear in the game and necessary upgrades so I scoured the Internet for locations and got what I wanted: The TAR-21 AR, the above mentioned pistols, and the MSR for Sniper. Because of Tier 1 I rotated MSR out with the Desert Tech HTL BDC which you unlock at Tier 40.

Trust me. Get these weapons and get their scopes and gear to trick them all out. Make it a priority. It's worth it. ;)

No because they don't have a threaded barrel to attach a suppressor to. They could make them that way but it wouldn't be practical.
