Steam Winter Sale 2017

As an FYI, have several games on my http://isthereanydeal.com/ account and appears Steam may not be offering lowest prices. May want to add the games you're looking at to a Waitlist there, or you can import your Steam wish list to verify before purchasing.

Thanks.

For the old schoolers, Quake 2 is $1.24. I never really liked that game, but I know a lot do, so I figured I'd point it out.

I never liked the single player mode and thought quake 1 had the creepy atmosphere.. but multiplayer was the best!! Played till quake 3 came out.. I think. FFA!!!

Serious Sam first & second encounters in HD with Vulkan support? Did not know these existed. Seriously there at $5.23.

Was playing them on my Win98/3dfx retro rig a few weeks back. Will be interesting to make some comparisons.

The sale has a few good items at least.

Yes, nearly 2018 and 3dfx still pushing those glide pixels, glad to hear there are still some others liking retro on real hardware, it really is fun! And if you don't have a card, dgvoodoo will transport your card to the year 2000! To the year 2000!!!

I have not been super interested in much of the sales recently. Gone are the days when you could get screaming deals on new titles, it seems...

They're not just HD, they're complete remakes on a new engine afaik.

Just saw your post. Agreed. Despite serious Wiki page review stating the contrary, level layouts have been completely revamped - much larger & more complex than the originals. Seems they have included enemies from later SS titles too.

After playing through a few areas, will say the SS HD are well worth the sale price for Serious fans. So different that I am not sure why they used 1st and 2nd encounter titles. All of the graphics, textures, models, lighting and, effects are new. Runs slick as snot at 1920:1200 in Vulkan.

Yeah, they're amazing games. esp for coop. IDK about HD remakes, but original had something completely ridiculous: 4 player split screen support

Haha, interestingly... Some of these voodoo cards sell really well/high on ebay...

So I tried playing the first Witcher and after 2-3 attempts I could never get into it. I am still considering trying Witcher 2 and 3 though. The biggest complaint I had of the first game was the combat just felt boring to me. Does Witcher 2 and 3 improve this part of the game?

I could never get into the first one either but Witcher 2 is a much more modern game of course and the combat is much improved.

Witcher 1 combat is simple yes, but the real main stay is the story line. Put on your big boy pants and finish it. Its well worth it.

Enslaved is $5. I played it on Xbox 360 back in 2012 (got it from my H SS that year actually) and it's a great game.. very underrated and was quite the sleeper hit. I picked it up and highly recommended it to anyone that likes a good linear adventure game, similar to the Uncharted or Tomb Raider series in terms of platforming and combat, but it has a pretty good story to go along with it.

Nice, that dgvoodoo looks interesting

Picked up Firewatch on sale.. It was about four and a half hours of game play, but damn worth it... assuming you click with the 'story based game' in the simplicity of the wilderness. Worth the eight bones for me.

Anyone playing 'Comedy Night'?

Going to pick up Jagged Alliance 2. I loved that game. Haven't played it in a while. Grab the v1.13 too and mod it the way I want. Old graphics now but still love the game and how it was made. Plenty of mods for it too.

I tried the same thing, 3 F-ing times in fact. The last time I got past the first chapter maybe, and to the next town, before finally I couldn't stand it anymore, so I watched a video summarizing the first game, and jumped into the Witcher 2. I haven't finished it yet, because I got sidetracked, but I think it's an excellent game thus far. I actually had the impression that it was just "good" compared to the first one, but that the 3rd one was the prize, honestly, I'm not sure how it can be all that much better.

In fact, Witcher 2, at 4k and max settings looks stunning, and will still tax the hell out of a decent system, and plays great on a large TV with a controller.

I highly recommend you just skip the first one. The story is deep and complex, and most say it's worth it if you can manage to get through it, but I found it to just to be too much. Of course, I also can't seem to go back through and play any of the old isometric RPGs like Baldur's Gate that I loved so much back in the day, because for whatever reason, I just no longer have the patience to read those walls of text on a screen anymore.

Witcher 1 is one of those games that you can just go on youtube and get the cliff notes about, it hasn't held up very well.

Witcher 2 on the other hand is a much better game and is worth playing, it isn't as good as the witcher 3 but I felt that the $7 I bought it for was worth it and then some.

Witcher 3....So a ton of people ranted and raved about how good it was and it was getting GOTY and all that so I figured I'd give it a go even though at that time I had given witcher 2 a shot and gotten a couple hours in before getting bored with it. I hate third person RPG games so I had low hopes for it and the first half hour of it was "meh" for me but I kept going and it won me over, sunk 110 hours into it finishing pretty much everything and finding all the stuff. I really enjoyed it and it's been one of the few games where the ending had me thinking about it a month later and just how pleased I was that I got that ending, I actually ended up buying the DLC for it and while I don't feel it's anywhere as near as good as the main story if I had to go back knowing what I know now I'd purchase the complete edition as it really was that good for me.

I did pick up Jagged Alliance 2 Gold and I also picked up Veil of Crows while I was at it. It looks interesting if early access. A cross between M&B and the Total War series. Not much else I want.

Yep, it takes a few hours to get into the witcher 3 once you get past the initial area. After that, game sucks you in like a dark hole.

I haven't bought a single thing on this sale so far. Already have a backlog of PC games and I've been playing PS4/Switch more lately anyway.

Added West of Loathing, Hidden Folks, and Tales of Maj'Eyal to the huge backlog of games that I'll probably never play - because... holiday traditions?.. ??!

Someone once tried to tell me ToME reminded him of the old Ultima games somehow (not the online one but the very old ones that played on C64 and other ancient devices)... I was unable to resist.

Probably shoulda gotten that goddamned tire gauge.....

Oh, and obligatory mention of steam hardware on sale... yes I know it never happens but the Steam Link is $4.99.
