A Chinese daredevil known for scaling skyscrapers without safety equipment to snap jaw-dropping selfies died last month after slipping off a 62-story building in the central city of Changsha. His death has prompted the media to warn about live-streaming stunts.

Rooftoppers tout millions of followers on social media, dangling over stunning heights in a bid for views and likes. A 23-year-old Russian model dangled off a 1,004-high tower in Dubai earlier this year, receiving no shortage of criticism. Wu told his viewers not to imitate his stunts, the BBC reported.

Thankfully mother nature is taking care of these bozos by herself.

Hardly surprising. I’ve been up 200 foot towers, and that’s usually windy enough to fly a brick. (I flew a 2’ pipe wrench once) the towers sway in the wind. 600’ without protection, ha fuuuck that. You could jump and land a block away on a windy day.

Well, at least he died doing what he loved ... well, shortly before falling to his death, which was probably horrific.

Whoa. You can totally tell the moment he knew he was fucked.
If he can’t do more than two pull-ups, he shouldn’t be hanging off the side of a 62 story building.

Anybody with any experience doing pull-ups knows once you’re tired you’re done and you can’t “will” yourself back up or find some reserve energy to pop a couple more out. He only did two and then it was holy crap I’m in trouble trying to get traction with his feet, then the fingers gave out.

I'm pretty sure he knew he was fucked as he was getting in place to do the pull ups, but instead of trying to get back up at that point he decided to go on with the show in hopes of finding better footing / leverage afterward.

that video shows him falling...you can even see him getting pulled away from said building... down and to the right

You know you can photoshop out safety equipment pretty easily if it's just a photo on a pretty stock background like a city view from on high or against a building.

It's unfortuante that we try to impede natural selection as a society. Never fear though, stupid people will still find a way to eliminate themselves no matter how safe we try to make things for them.

I always admired these guys for their balls because I can't hardly watch their videos without damn near having a panic attack! The nads these guys have to do some of these things blows me away. But yeah, it sucks he died but ya know... Playing with fire and all that.

The older I get, the more and more I hate heights. When I was a kid I was at the top of whatever tree I felt like climbing.. Now, just watching videos of people like this makes me weak in my knees and I find myself not breathing sometimes in near panic.. What the hell?

I've read this story in a few places, and I've seen the pics (but not the video).

As I'm reading this now my palms are sweating like mad. Crazy..

A few years ago I climbed MAYBE 4 feet up a tree for a 30-day exposure picture (NOT a selfie or of another person). On the way down I slid down a few feet, got a few slivers, cursed my clumsiness, and walked away a bit embarrassed even though nobody saw it.

I can't imagine risking even than that for a friggin' selfie.

well he did used to be a movie stunt man so must have had some training plus he was doing it to earn money to support his family and his sick mother afaik.

Wondering if he gained a fear of heights on the way down.

Fucking moron.

The media grasped the root of the problem perfectly: Don't do stupid shit live! How about not doing stupid shit at all?

ok i thought it was just me that had that issue.. i had zero fear of heights as a kid or jumping off two story houses into pools.. now just going up a 16 ft ladder scares the crap out of me..

I dont think he is a dumbass.

I just think he failed in his craft.

Or came out on the bad side of statistical probability, or physics, or both.

We all take chances.

after realizing he couldn't do another pull up why not just hang there for a bit to regain his energy before trying to pull himself back up over the edge?

There’s no recovering your energy with your arms above your head. All climbers and gym rats know this. Energy and capability only go one way — down. It’s not like jogging where even if you are tired you could manage to sprint a bit. The longer you hang there beyond when you can do the pull-up - the more screwed you are.

I can't figure out where he was trying to go? He was already on top of the building, was he trying to climb back down?
