Assassin’s Creed Origins

Well...For some reason I don't think the game intended the Ibis to be this easy. I was in his base at level 4, just hunting treasure. I run across a tied up prisoner in a house with a sleeping solider. Dispatch the solider and free the prisoner. Decide to look around the house some more. So I go upstairs and see another guy sleeping. Thinking it's another solider I kill him and turn away, right into the face of a solider. I get my weapon ready, all gearing for a fight, when the screen goes white and it goes to the Ibis death stuff. So, in short, I randomly came upon the Ibis sound asleep and killed him without even realizing who he was.
That’s amazing lol.

About 2 and Half hours in now. Still in the first city. I'm really enjoying the game so far. Picked up a cheap-ish gaming laptop with a 1050 and a 7300HQ in it and the game actually runs pretty well, all things considered. Using KB/M on the desktop and a XB1 pad on the laptop and I like playing with both. Combat seems pretty simple and easy so far, but not bad.

Finished this last night with pushing 70 hours and 96 percent overall completion. Best I can see the map is clear and the quests are cleared out so it's probably because I haven't won out in the races and gladiator fights. What a helluva game. (for me.)

the launcher says i've played 8hours.

i seem to kind of suck at combat? but i found that i just throw my fireballs at people and they melt.

I'm not sure how much side stuff i want to do, or just do the main story.

After much dithering I finally picked up the game (on discount from a member). I've got to be honest (and fair warning, I'm a huge AC fan)... I'm 8 hours in and really not enjoying this game at all. There's just something "not right" with the gameplay and graphics. It's almost like it wants to be Far Cry, but Far Cry doesn't really lend itself to AC-type stealth and parkour mechanics. Also the textures don't feel organic like they have in past games (they feel programmatically "painted on"), and the color pallet is oversaturated in parts. Combat is altogether too push-button, not as much of a rhythmic dance as in past games; using the bow is an altogether automated experience (feels like I'm firing an uzi rather than methodically lining up my shots, pulling the string and loosing.

Also, the interface and its styling... it feels extraordinarily like Dragon Age 2, far too slot machine-y almost like I'm picking options from a supermarket touchscreen automated teller.

On the bright side, the story seems interesting, and questing more varied and the soundtrack is excellent. Not redeemable enough for me, however, and a far cry (sorry...) from the best ACs. As it is, this game sits at the bottom of the AC titles in my view overall.

Also, no performance issues here: runs very smooth at 4k ultra for me. The only issue I have is screen tearing from time to time, but that's more of a symptom of my setup. I had a few crashes early on, but think that was due to my 1600 and RAM being redlined to 4.1ghz/3000mhz

Edit: Also, with a background in romance linguistics and being relatively proficient in latin, some of the background dialogue is way off in grammar and pronunciation (they obviously just hired some Italian VAs and told them to read the lines). It's not romanes eunt domus bad, but I heard a couple very awkward phrasings. Not to knit pick though :)

I really love this game. It gets my vote of GOTY easily. I just fire it up every night and go about having fun, doing whatever I want. It looks gorgeous, the skill tree is laid out in such a way that it keeps me interested while adding new powers / weapons. It really is a blast.

It's not perfect but when stuff does go wrong it's pretty hilarious. i.e. the flying ships, weird NPC freak outs, etc. Last night I had a chariot run over a bunch of people in a crowd for no apparent reason. I had my first run in with a Phylake too. I was able to get on a giant crossbow launcher and set him on fire while blasting him. It was a pretty easy kill.

Funny how folks have such opposite opinions of this.

My continued stance on this game is that the gameplay is pretty good and the graphics are great.

The worst part is the shit-ass story that was obviously thrown together at the last minute and they didn't have enough time to complete it. The entire first quarter of the story/game is basically missing, and there are a bunch of events that happen that you have no real context into. Three dudes are already killed when you start the game.

I'm very early on in the story. Seems standard, but has held my interest so far. Also, the period and setting is excellent (exactly to the year I said it should be in a post I made last year when the rumor came out it was in Egypt, if I can toot my own horn a bit)

I sort of understand why people are divided on the game. It's superficially a fun game and nice to look at...

Only one dude is dead when the game starts. The story is quite complete w/ a rushed ending.
I don't think the game is superficial at all in any respect. For an action RPG it is quite complete in its offering.

But to each their own.

Once you meet up with Aya in Alexandria, she's already killed 2 more.

In relation to the main story you can hit it quite fast.

My point is that there are 3 people and a substantial amount of story that they intentionally left out of the game either because they ran out of development time, or were just lazy. Even weirder is when you complete Memphis and start heading out west you go through these areas where your character presumably was hanging out at before you started playing him in the game. It's odd because you get all this dialog/character building from a couple side quests where they off-hand mention things that you didn't actually play in the game.

So while I enjoy the game I don't like what they did with the main quest line and how disjointed a lot of the story/characters feel. The player shouldn't be confused during a mission when a NPC is referencing something that was obviously not put into the game and/or potentially removed.

There's been several characters now where Bayek clearly knows them however they never appeared in the game. It's even more awkward when they start reminiscing and I'm just like "Did I meet this person before? What is happening right now?"

Most of the side quests end really abruptly, too. You'll get 5 minutes of dialog setting up some big controversy, then you go stab 1 captain in a base and it's *DING!* Mission complete. You usually don't even have to go back to the NPC that gave you the quest, it just ends. The quests feel like 90% setup and 10% actual quest.

I am not sure we are playing the same game anymore. Anyways, defeated Sekhmet. Was a bit disappointed since battle went exactly like Sobek.
Also synced all viewpoints and I think I will do some Arena crap to try and get Bayek max upgrade achievement. Then it is it. Was a good run. Right now 52 hours and about 89% complete. Got some side quests to deal with as well.

Yeah, some of the fights in the game visually are really cool looking like the one with that snake.

Found something neat:
If you go straight east out of Siwa, you'll find a cave called "Hotep Cavern".

And the meaning of it:
(If you haven't found the location yet, don't click this spoiler)
This is the cave where Layla (the modern-day girl) is using the Animus, with Bayek and Aya's mummies.

Both characters will make a few comments about it, too.

Day and night outfits. :)

I really love the look of a lot of the outfits in the game. Pity there isn't a way to keep earning Helix Credits in the game, I'd like some of the store costumes but I refuse to pay for them. Same with the mounts.

Many of them can be obtained from the lootcrates. You might be able to use a trainer to give yourself gold and buy crates until you get the outfit/mount you want.

EDIT: WeMod Infinity has an "Unlimited Gold" cheat.

There is a vendor that sends you quests where you can buy them with in game gold.

Although I think you can buy a stack of them with Helix as well?

Yup, but it needs to be stressed here: You can unlock and earn everything in the game straight up with no BS. I mostly did.

This isn't Battlefront 2.

The game seems pretty good with loading you down with money too. I've got something like 7k already and I'm not even in Alexandria yet, all without selling any items too.

I don't think all of the shop items are available in Heka Chests immediately. They've added some over time, though.

I'm sad that I'm finished with this game. 100 percent completion.

I hit 91% completion at 74 hours (I think...). I'm not sure if I should get around to doing the Cyrene arena & the Hippodrome races. I hate fighting the elephants, so I'll skip that for a long while.
