And input lag is also not a big deal to you. That is entirely subjective and I can accept that some people care less than others.

And I don't know why people are saying they don't see big gains when upgrading their GPU on BDO. Sounds like they have a seriously weak CPU or something. From 980 ti to 1080 ti my fps roughly doubled (I got exactly the 70-80% performance boost claimed by nvidia and hardware reviews), even in cities and mass pvp, at any resolution between 1080p and 4k with just an old 4790k @ 4.4ghz. If we want to talk about CPU limited then let's talk about Arma 3 or DCS or something... (more games where ULMB is a no go and VRR a godsend). And as for an extremely popular and completely GPU bound game, there's always ARK Survival Evolved lol. Drops below 30fps at 1440p with a 1080 ti.

What? This monitor doesn't have ULMB? I thought all Gsync enabled ones would have it. That's a bummer as even on my 240Hz display I prefer how the games feel at 144Hz + strobing vs 240Hz without it. It's like gaming on a CRT again, you'd think 240Hz would be more than enough to remove blur but once you put them next to each other it quickly becomes noticeable, the sample-and-hold issue is too much to ignore even at 240Hz. UFOtest is pretty much blur-free at 144Hz strobed while there still is a noticeable shadow at 240Hz.

You keep moving goalposts. ARK is so broken and unoptimized that it is hard to find a thread actually explaining wtf is going on there. as i said before, one can always bring out bad games to the discussion. 10y ago it was crysis, then heavily modded skirym. now its ark.
 
It's ok to tell us that you prefer ULMB to G-Sync, and the reasons why. Such a conversion would even be relevant with this monitor as it lacks the former. It's not ok to pretend your preference is the universal truth.

The only goal post is this nonsense: "one does not need *sync for 2560x1440. 1080ti is more than enough at this low resolution. so at 25x14 the only relevant spec is ULMB, which this monitor lacks."

No. Not "one". But "you". You attempt to present opinion as fact and then prove it. This is spectrum level stuff here.
 
Saying G-sync is not important at 1440p with 1080Ti is laughable. I turned off G-Sync to run a benchmark and IMMEDIATELY noticed when I tried playing Battlefront 2 afterwards that something was "OFF". Sure enough, forgot to reset G-sync.

This guy has gone on anti-G-sync rants before, parading his ignorant opinions as fact. People who have actually used VRR know he is full of bologna.

Yea I think the same, I better keep waiting for an IPS version in the same format because I really enjoy strobing personally, would love to have especially a 144Hz strobing capable, wonder if IPS panels are even fast enough to handle that? TN panels handle up to around 180Hz with reasonable result.

These are panels by LG.Display I suppose, but tftcentral doesn't have any infos on these from the roadmaps (only on ultrawide panels).
AOU follows with 4k/HDR version in late 2018. (if it doesn't get delayed again)

That's great news, thanks for sharing, looking forward to what LG will offer in 2018 then. :) Seems like they really are trying to step up their game. I hope they one day will offer an OLED monitor as well, it's kinda the logical next step at some point.
 
Huh, didn't think I'd see a VA panel with those specs to compete with all the AHVA/IPS ones. Sounds promising enough, if they can minimize the black smear on black/dark grey transitions that my FG2421 suffers from. Just gotta wait for the price to come down.

The Samsung C27HG70 does a decent job in reducing that problematic dark transition from 44ms to 34ms, while providing 1440p 144Hz. You just have to get past the problematic QC with weird patterns and smudges in grey/dark backgrounds.

No G-SYNC, but the price is accordingly much cheaper. Also no flat option since Samsung's obsessed with curved displays in one way or another, sadly. If it's not their monitors, it's their flagship smartphones. (I say this as a Note 8 owner, since even the Note 7 before it started the trend of cramming those curved edges down our throats and I have no alternative for a penabled phone.)

It's definitely worth a try rolling the QC lottery, as it's already widely available. Because even if this LG proves good, it's not going to be much of an upgrade in resolution sharpness at 31.5". In fact, it'll have a tad worse PPI than a 23.5" 1080p monitor.

Newegg has pushed the release date back a third time, to 12/18. At this rate we'll be lucky to actually have it by Christmas. Hopefully more reviews surface so I can just cancel my pre-order if it sucks.

I really don't like this baiting on pre-release either, with them shipping out the "free gift" keyboards and charging people's cards for them. I know I'm not the only one this happened to. Advertising multiple BS release dates to lure in pre-orders is shady, (unless the Egg is getting BS'ed themselves by LG)... who knows. Just hope it's worth it whenever it does actually ship!
 
Looks pretty in-depth to me. Any display gurus have an opinion based on the review?

Their charts are underdeveloped compared to other sites and don't show the whole picture. There is something off about their WBW/GBG listings

I've used a monitor they reviewed before and it was like the screen was melting, easily 20ms+ for certain gray shades (VA) and their grids looked nothing like that. TFT does 6x6 grid, these guys do 5x5, and probably off or something. They don't do overshoot/undershoot tests either, except for that crappy out of sync video with the squares.

The other video on their site shows this monitor to have a lot of motion blur, as expected. Unfortunately we will need to see it for ourselves to know for sure...

Can't even find a review from any of the usual suspects. Maybe LG isn't confident in it withstanding professional scrutiny?

But you can safely put this on highest overdrive it seems. (from: off, normal, fast, faster)
There's very little overshoot, either the overdrive is very good or it might be too weak in the end.
Also, their unit had some issues with black uniformity in the top left corner.

Mine shipped from the Egg today (12/6). Expect impressions and comparison with my 27" Acer XB270HU (IPS) by next Wednesday, thanks to "Super-Eggsaver" shipping (so much for that Premier membership...)

Is the combination for how to get to the service menu even known? Otherwise the only way to find out panel is by opening up the display (and thus voiding warranty)

Last few monitors I have bought required a few returns to get acceptable screens. I really do not understand how its so hard to make screens with no back light bleed. A bit OT but this even applies to TVs, I went through 5 Sony 850Ds before getting a good panel, I knew the geek squad guys by the end of that ordeal.

I'll be returning another PG279Q to Microcenter... I don't understand how my MG279Q is just fine, very minimal bleed, but I can't get one a decent G-Sync 1440P IPS. Hopefully this LG turns out alright and I can have something to hold me over until the end of next year when we have DP 1.4, 4k 144hz panels.

"Just turn off the monitor, wait for 5 seconds. Then press and hold the menu button. With it pressed, press the power button. The monitor will be on. Release menu button. Then press menu again and you will get the secret menu."

Oops. I misread what you first wrote. I took it as rtings had 5% and 50% gray uniformity test issues with this monitor...

VA in general tend to have problems with dark grey uniformity. Maybe this one is better as its flat.

Also curious about how the black viewing angle/VA glow looks like, from a normal ~90-100cm viewing distance in a dark room.

Edge lit exacerbates some issues. I'm very curous how the 512 zone uw FALD monitors will look.

Motion clarity and motion definition are huge gains aesthetically. Once I got a 27" 1080p 120hz monitor years ago, there was no going back for gaming. However, what is also big deal to me is the black depth on ips and tn monitors. It's .13 to .14 with below 1000:1 contrast ratio. A VA gaming monitor can triple that, plus FALD can probably improve that by 33% to 44% or more. The HDR premium standard is (at least) 1000nit peak and .04 black depth.

FALD is an extremely poor solution... potentially effective for video, but on the desktop more of a burden.
