Tesla Semi to Deliver Beer: Budweiser Orders 40 Electric Trucks

Budweiser beer maker Anheuser-Busch has reserved 40 of Tesla's all-electric Semi trucks as it seeks to reduce fuel costs and vehicle emissions. It was likely the largest publicly announced order Tesla has received for its electric trucks, which are scheduled to be in production by 2019.

The company said in a blog post that the order is part of a commitment to lower its carbon footprint by 30% by 2025. That’s likely a helpful timeline for Tesla, given that it doesn’t plan to deliver the first of its trucks to customers until 2019, and is still working on ironing out production bottlenecks at its Gigafactory production facility in Reno, Nevada.

150? Those I don't know anything about.
That still represents a big order, and by companies that can afford to wait for their marketing trucks to arrive.
 
this is a bigger embracing of future tech than going from a horse to a car, so the scant size of sales thus far doesnt really scare me. the size of renewals, additional sales from existing customers, and how quickly sales spread 2 years after the early adopters are the more telling metrics.
 
In Tesla time 2019 = 2022

to be fair with most companies 2019 = 2035 so if they get it out by 2022 that's not to bad..

given they won't be out the door til 2019 i'm sure we'll see more pre-orders go up by then.. but it's a good start for being this early. but i agree with you, the 2-3 years after they hit the roads will tell the complete story.
 
Trucking companies don't buy a whole fleet at once. They'll buy several and trial them out for a couple years, beat the hell outta them. If they like them, then they'll start replacing the aging fleet.
Go to any company yard or hub, and you see damn near a fleets worth of CNG trucks that fonts have a mile on them. They bought tons of them for tax breaks (company I used to drive for actually profited off the purchases due to tax credits many years ago), and has zero intention of using them because they are garbage. I think UPS is the only carrier using them, and only for LTL day hauls.

Unless they get with Pilot/Flying J, Loves, T/A, etc... to get charging stations installed in the parking lot, hey won't get a single dime from OTR carriers. JB Hunt has plenty of dedicated and LTL lanes to use these trucks and keep them charged.

California is gonna love this in a few years of these take off. Taxes gonna go up since they aren't getting a friggin $1.19/ga fuel surcharge on every truck in the state.

It's actually more orders than those 3 companies.

Meijer - 4 Trucks
Loblaw - 25 Trucks
Sysco - 50 Trucks
DHL - 10 Trucks

they'll just move the tax to peoples electricity bill.
 
At least when the batteries catch fire it won't spread too far since there will be plenty of watered down beer on hand to put it out with.
