Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen is calling the controversy surrounding Star Wars: Battlefront II's loot boxes and microtransaction systems a "learning experience” that will help the company determine how to build “great games.” More interestingly, he said it's not 100 percent confirmed that microtransactions will come back to Battlefront II.

That's an interesting comment, given that DICE's previous statement made it sound like it was a matter of when, not if, regarding the return of microtransactions. The team is now considering when or if they will return, and if they do, what form that will take, he said. And regarding the reception to Battlefront II, Jorgensen said the game is seeing "great retention," adding that the game continues to sell and will through this holiday and beyond.

Where is the alien guy with messed up hair ?
"but Micro-transactions will come back to Battlefront II"

Calling bullshit on what this CFO said. EA isn't completely stupid and they know that the MT was/is a cash cow for them. No way in hell they will keep them removed, they will surely find a way to slide them back in. As for this being a "learning experience," uh huh... o_O

And yet, they STILL have a cap on credits in Arcade, STILL are bringing back microtransactions per their own admission, STILL continue to push lootbox bullshit in several other titles.

Yeah, forgive me if this feels incredibly insincere if not outright bullshit.

A learning experience? Utter BS.

They knew well ahead of time, years in fact of their predatory behavior, their slimy brand of cancer and lack of goodwill toward it's customers.

To this day EA still doesn't not allow American Football on the PC. Why? Greed. They speak sideways. In one corner of their mouth they pander to everyone with crocodile tears while the other corner of the mouth whispers "cha-ching" to one another in the boardroom.

This has been a lying problematic company for years.

The problem here is ea uses a super secret language that regular folks don't understand. "Great Games" doesn't have the same meaning.

Before anyone gets too excited over the bullshit that just flew out of Jorgensen's mouth:

They've been trotting out this same line for years. Its intent is only to outdate the outrage. When they feel they've outlived the outrage, they will put mtx's back in the game... just as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.

**edit**

why aren't my links working?

The only thing they learned is... basic cosmetic type lock boxes come in with the first DLC 2-3 months after launch, full on p2w lock boxes with the second.

Always have to laugh at the ZMOG GREED argument. Like if you had something of value you wouldn't want to get the absolute most for it. It is a silly argument.

Lol "corporate greed", yes if I own stock in a company I guess I want them to be greedy as hell and maximize revenue/profit.

Hopefully its a learning experience, one that tells the consumer to not buy EA products.

Sadly it turns out most people are suckers.

If they DO confirm, 100%, that microtransactions will not reappear in game, for ANY items, I will purchase the game, not before.

You must be a Republican. You are probably not a shareholder in any case, but a CONSUMER, and there is no getting around the fact that EA's practices are ANTI-CONSUMER! So get off your ideological high-horse and wake up!

The only thing EA has learned is that they will have to figure out a new, more subtle way of pillaging their customers.

Hence, being a learning experience into building "great games". The question comes down to, for whom is this going to be great for, EA, or the customers?

Much like getting your ass whipped raw as punishment as a kid, you "learn" you don't want to get caught

The only way i could see them "learning from this" is if they had rest rest of their titles without loot box systems. Full stop, pull it all out. Otherwise is just blowing smoke up someone's butt to sounds good. Lip service plain and simple. It will come back around in a few years when people start forgetting about it. They will begin to boil the frog again.

Does that mean you are a tree hugging, hippie, socialist that wants everything to be free? How is the market not working as intended? EA did something and the consumers(not big Govt) responded and the companies stocked dropped. I don't like the microtransaction policy myself and thus I don't buy games that appear to be overly dependant on them. The consumers have to make decisions on what they will tolerate and they have tolerated a tremendous amount thus far. Maybe I'm guilty of victim blaming, but had people not bought into these microtransactions from the start this wouldn't have been a problem, but consumers keep paying and paying, so I can't completely blame EA for milking the cash cow for all they could. Finally the players\consumers said enough and EA, in terms of stock values, has been punished.

I'm sure they have learned something, they pushed the boundaries and found the outer limits. They will either reign it in or risk taking more beatings

While I understand your point... I would say there is a good argument that very good profits (maybe not maximized) can still be obtained by providing a quality product at a price of its worth. Apple is a great example (along with other Luxury brands) of how large profits can still be made based on demand.

The random loot box/F2P methods being used are completely different imo. They aren't upfront at all, they don't give odds etc to allow customers the ability to see if the purchase is worth it.

I personally think "greed" is a perfectly good word to use for companies that obviously are trying to hide the actual cost AND value of the products they are selling. There is a very good reason why these games don't give drop rates/odds or sell things straight up, cause they wouldn't get $$$$ based on the value alone.

As for any question on regulation... I think outlawing or making it gambling is a bit much. Though I for sure can see regulations where odds/costs should be clearly labeled. Advertising has regulations that the product has to be in the ads, no subliminal messaging and other stuff like that to prevent egregious manipulation, I don't see how this is any different.

You are insulting, and a fool, and I have no time for fools. Good day, sir.

I did not insult you, I asked a question. Sorry to see your response to someone who disagrees with you is to just throw out insults and claim you're too good to have a discussion with them.

Lesson learned alright.

They've been making games for decades. They know exactly what works and what it does. They don't get to use the "newbie tried something new to the marketplace they just entered" line of "learning experience".

The only learning experience, if any, which is basically none, is the retards that still buy their churn garbage games.

"...only learning experience, if any, which is basically none, is the retards that still buy their churn garbage games.

yep, E.A. has moved their entire business model to be completely dependent on a subset micro culture of the entire gaming consumer ecosystem; i.e. : 'the young dumb and full of cum" . It's why their market cap took a 3.5 billion dollar hit over this battlefront 'fuck you pay me ' moment.

Andromeda was a huge FU to all fans of the series ( p.s. E.A. ; I am tired, seriously really tired of seeing seriously ugly and stupid characters in games; there is a reason fat ugly women are not successful at selling bikini's, and that reasons is basic human nature, so , go download the horrendously bad " outlaws of Gor " ( movie ) , notice how insanely hot the women are and the exceptional enhancement to this a deer skin bikini makes , pretend to take some notes while watching more of this movie than you will ever admit to , and then realize if you keep peddling crap you too will be forced to use the 'deer skin bikini model' sooner or later )

SWBAttlefront2 is a doubling down on the FU that was SWBF1.

They honestly believe the echo chamber they make their decisions in is 'forward thinking' and adamantly refuse to separate the concept of a game consumer and ocean krill .
It's even worse than when the Phantom console ( remember them ) huckster said , " doesn't make a difference what it is you people will still buy it "

ahh....remember the days when you would crank up an E.A. game and hear that deep voice say, "E.A. ...it's in the game" , and you would think; yeah it is , and be excited to play the game ? I guess after twenty years it's : " E.A. ...it's not in the game , that costs more "

Sad times indeed.

(edit) to end on a happy note; just try to image what fallout 4 , or SWbattlefront 2 would have been like if produced by rockstar/take two ....

EA's lack of business ethic taught me not to buy their games. So they can also be a teacher too.

EA learned that they got away with it in every game that they released this year, except for Star Wars.

When they release next Star Wars game, people will be so used to them that they won't even notice.

//Oh **** me. I thought I found a couple of exceptions... nope.

Even back in the way back day of ultima 7 it was a rip on EA by Origin, as even then they were a crappy company. Ironic now, but anyway, the bad guys were Elizabeth and Abraham, EA, and the objects that opened the Guardians gate were shaped like the then EA 3 part logo.

This game would have been a roaring success had they simply aped the Overwatch cosmetics-only approach to Looting our wallets with boxes.
