Brave Software Will Give you Crypto Tokens to Use Their Browser

Brave Software, creators of the Brave ad-blocking browser, is giving away 300,000 free crypto tokens if you use their browser. The only catch is these tokens can't be used anywhere but on their platform. However, the idea behind the browser is pretty cool and it supposedly loads webpages 2 to 8.7 times faster depending on the site. This might be something to check into if you want to reduce your vulnerability to malware and other nasties.

Brave’s BAT tokens (“basic attention tokens”) are an attempt to solve the slow load times, annoyance, and invasion of privacy internet users experience on ad-serving browsers. Users get an ad-free experience on the Brave browser, and in exchange they’re expected to help compensate publishers for their content by purchasing and distributing BAT tokens to their favorite content sites and YouTube creators.

When this browser was first announced it sounded like you would receive part of the ad revenue for using their browser with their injected ads. Maybe I misunderstood but to me that seems like a good way to encourage people to keep ads on.

This is the dumbest thing I've seen today, by a rather huge margin. :D

Someone fill me in, but why would someone use this browser as oppose to FF or Chrome with Ad Blocker installed?

Because it pays sites you actually visit and pays them by the amount of times you visit them. With an ad-blocker, all you do is not support the websites you constantly visit.

Brave has private tabs and sessions built in so you can be logged into 10 different accounts on the same website at once without a separate window. Only chromium based browser that can do this, I wish Vivaldi would implement this feature as well.

Pfffsst.. I can accumulate Bing points by using Bing and Edge and turn those points into chances to win things or get Amazon gift cards. No need for other silly tokens.

That's an interesting idea. I'm not sure what the margins are on ad revenue these days - maybe there is still room to split the revenue and be viable.

Fractions of a penny per ad perhaps, but overtime it will add up.

IF you actually think about it, this could be a great way to support websites who's ads you block using adblock, ublock, brave, etc. From what I've read though, a website doesn't get paid until they accumulate $100.00 through visits to their website by users of Brave. I know there are users on here will scoff at the thought of using Brave to support their favorite websites because it doesn't benefit them in any form so their self entitlement would keep them from using Brave even if it meant keeping their favorite sites around for longer. I, for one, am going to give it a try regardless if I gain anything because I know that I am doing my part to support sites like Hardocp and various other sites I visit.

I've been using Brave on Android for about a year now. It's the best phone browser I've used, hands down.

Ive tried using Brave. Un-installed it after I couldn't get the fonts to not be fuzzy on literally any site, anywhere. No amount of guides on the topic helped. Everything I looked at was completely out of focus. But Chrome, Opera, Firefox and IE were crisp and visibly sharp on all the same sites.

There is enough to make companies like google and facebook some of the most valuable companies on earth.

Sounds like a personal problem. I have Brave on my phone in my home computer with no fuzziness issues whatsoever. Really good browser.

Was it the ad revenue sharing that made you go that route? Has it been beneficial from that standpoint?

More just ad blocking and privacy. It excels there, but has been quite fast too.
More and more news sources won't let me use ad blocking - it blocks the content. I wonder if this escapes that fate - I may have to try it out. Such a hassle.

Love Brave! Been using it fulltime for the past few months and have nothing but good things to say about it. Just wish it had better add-on support, although that will come in time.

That's what I don't understand. I don't have that issue on the Android app. On the PC, fonts are fuzzy. Every site I can compare to in IE, Firefox and even Opera is fuzzy. I thought something was going on with my monitor until I compared sites between all of them. For whatever reason, text is blurry on Brave for me. It's an issue that's been documented, but none of the fixes have worked for me.
