Now You Can Buy an Unlocked iPhone X in the U.S.

If you've been waiting to buy an iPhone X because you didn't want to commit to any specific carrier - your wait is over. Apple has opened up another option on their website to allow the purchase of an unlocked, SIM-free, iPhone X. If you're in the market for one of those head on over to their website and grab one. I guess Apple finally realized this would kick their sales numbers up a bit more.

The unlocked iPhone X is a solid option for those who like to switch between carriers or travel internationally on a regular basis. It also ensures that you aren’t in any way tied to down to a specific carrier or locked into a carrier financing program.

Don't forget this whole industry started 10 years ago with a simple agreement between Apple and AT&T.

I am surprised they did this though, I didn't realize you couldn't buy an unlocked one from Apple directly. I just assumed they always offer this option as I have bought a couple iPhones directly through them over the years. It's just easier to have a carrier agnostic phone sometimes.

It was a supply issue. supply and/or demand is easing, so it's no longer an issue.

You can buy an Unlocked iPhone from Apple directly, but up until now it came with a SIM card and I believe you had to have service with one of the 4 major carriers (in the USA), but you could immediately cancel your service with Sprint and sign up with AT&T (you could not do the reverse, because AT&T phones don't have CDMA radios built in (Sprint/VZ = world phones)

They do make universal phones and it's the CDMA version, but for whatever reason they removed CDMA radios from the phones sold by/for AT&T and T-Mobile. Furthermore, for years they've made multiple models. For the iPhone 6, Sprint (but not VZ) had a universal phone. For the 6s, the AT&T version had some extra bands (that only they used at that time). I don't know if T-Mobile used that phone too and I don't recall which company had the world phone with the 7, though I'm sure you can look at the specs on Apple's site and figure it out...for that matter, the world phone probably has a model number, so you can look at what company sells that model.
