Help Troubleshooting my PC

I usually do all my own work, but this has never happened to me, and google so far has been less than helpful.

So I went to adjust the OC on the main pc in my sig, and it immediately rebooted and failed. After a few more failures I decided to flash the bios (it was still OG) after flashing it wouldn't post at all, tried the emergency usb flash port, still nothing. The VGA LED was red, removed my titan and it still failed to post.

Hit the mem test button and it posted, but would not boot. removed the RAM and installed them one by one, and it booted each time.

Now the hardware is back to normal, but the system still won't overclock, and now I experience stuttering and artifact on the desktop. Haven't been able to get to a game yet because nothing will really open (at least easily).

My usual suspect is the RAM, but again I tried removing them one by one, and then testing each one, the problem persists regardless of RAM configuration.

Any thoughts? Motherboard is still under warranty, but I'll miss Christmas gaming as its Asus RMA!
 
dig system? I just worked on a z97/4790k system that was acting goofy due to a low battery. worth a check. then I'd try another gpu, then psu next. gonna need some parts...

If it was GPU would the igpu not reveal that?

Tried the battery, no luck. Psu is by far the oldest part of the system, about 2012/13.

Edit: also what is dig system? As in do i dig the system? Yeah, been looking at coffee lake, but its a lot of cash for the gain (better than laby at least).

how does it act on the igpu?
 
maybe try your old cpu first before buying a new psu, then psu next. nm confused with another thread. psu next.
 
Little skeptical that it's the PSU. If you removed the load that a GPU would have on it and it's still giving you issues then well.. skeptical.

I'm leaning towards a bad motherboard. Especially since trying 1 stick of RAM at a time allowed you to boot, however your comments are kind of contradictory, maybe?

if I am reading this right you are trying to say you got it to boot with just one RAM DIMM installed? Multiple DIMMs failed to boot?

It wouldn't overclock at all with any of the DIMMs installed no matter what?

Leads me to believe it's the motherboard.

In order:

1. Yes it booted with one RAM dimm
2. Once it failed on b1, but removing and reinstalling cleared it. All 4 slots in use now without failure to post.
3. Always failed oc, and problems only started after flashing (other than the oc failure)

To expand, I have tried every ram configuration possible, 1, 2, 3, 4 dimms, different arrangements etc. Like I said, I always suspect the ram first.

Have not tried overclocking since this started because the system is not even stable in vanilla mode.
 
I am betting on the motherboard being the issue.
 
Not the PSU. My money is with Skillz now, I guess I might just be buying a new PC. :inpain:
