Philip Nitschke, otherwise known as “Dr. Death,” became the first doctor to legally administer a deadly injection to one of his patients in 1996. Now, the euthanasia guru is designing a 3D-printable suicide machine called Sarco, which will allow people to die peacefully.

The coffin can be printed with a 3D-printer and uses liquid nitrogen, which can be bought legally. After you have taken your seat inside the machine, nitrogen starts flowing. After a minute and a half you start to feel disoriented—a feeling comparable to that of having a few too many drinks—and a few minutes later you lose consciousness. In about five minutes, you're gone.

Reminds me of the pig study where they put the pigs food in a hooded enclosure & pumped in nitrogen gas. Nitrogen gas is undetectable to mammals, so the pigs keep sticking their heads in the enclosure to get the food & pass out right away. They would flush the enclosure with air and start over with the same pigs. Time after time the pigs would keep going for the food & passing out. Quite funny to watch.

This is pretty morbid and really unneeded. I mean if you're done with this world then there are a ton of quick and painless options that anyone can do without 3d printing and assembling some stupid coffin.

Funny to watch if you find animals being tortured funny that is.

People should be able to end their own lives. Maybe we try and talk them out of it, remind them of ramifications and other alternatives, but it shouldn't be illegal.

ESPECIALLY if they're suffering from some kind of chronic, debilitating, or lethal disease/condition. I am a very strong supporter of the 'Death With Dignity' laws. WATCH this movie, 'How to Die in Oregon'

Morbid, yes, but gives the individual time to reconsider. That is, unless the person is really, really intent on completing the act.

I have never understood this reasoning. If you want to end it, there are plenty of ways to end it. Being illegal is only important if you fail to commit suicide.

Woah woah woah.. I thought Jack Kevorkian was "Dr. Death".

Also I will point out my disappointment this isn't Futurama's Murdorlator.

This is an interesting topic to me. This is hypoxia. I saw a video last year where a YouTuber got to experience a hypoxia chamber and they took him to the brink of death and he had zero recollection of pain or discomfort afterwards. I thought wow, this would be an amazing way to humanly execute people. No pain, and no special equipment required. Just put them in a room, let them eat their last supper and then they go to sleep.

Going back to your statement about nitrogen being undetectable, they explained it nicely. Your brain or lungs doesn't know WHAT it breathes, it only knows if it CAN breathe or not. When you chock or suffocate, it is a reaction to not being able to get "air" into your lungs. But if "air" gets into the lungs, then your brain has no reflex reaction. Air is mostly made up of nitrogen (something like 60-70% I think), it is inert and causes no side effects to our body normally. Replace the oxygen with more nitrogen and your body is deprived, but it has no reason to be alarmed. As they show, you just slowly and unknowingly shutdown.

Lots of people die from hypoxia every year in accidents. It's very easy to happen if the element that displaced the oxygen doesn't cause any burning or uncomfortable side effects while you are breathing it. It is, the silent, perfect killer.

pretty sure blowing your brains our or hanging yourself is not a good sight for your loved ones to see.

Pills or CO2 are easy and don't leave a mess.

Bungie jumping without a rope or skydiving without a parachute would work for the more adventuresome.

No mention of cost. I guess "if you have to ask", so only the rich get peaceful deaths while the rest of us suffer with fumbling shotguns around.

In that same vein - make sure to have at least 10-13 thousand dollars set aside so your loved ones will not be put out of pocket for your funeral. Insurance won't cover that suicide!

Though that may be less if you are buried in that 3d printed coffin.. Maybe melted inside to a nice resin statue.

CO2 toxicity can cause severe and painful illness in the concentration needed to cause timely death. Pills, depending on what they are, would probably cause you to die from choking on your own vomit. A fall from a great height is not guaranteed to kill you.

Being dead is not something they want to see.

Jump from a bridge, tall building.
OD on pills.
Shoot yourself in the head in a park.
Lamp in the bathtub.
Jump in front of a train/speeding bus.
Carbon monoxide poisoning (Generator in the garage)
Turn witness against the Clintons
Starve yourself.
Drive into a concrete wall at 90mph

I was all for Jack Kevorkian when he was around but even he died. I don't want to see anyone rot with about 20 pills in their system the current nursing home delima and big pharma.

your problems only get worse after suicide :( dont do it ................your going to HELL no if ands or booty

If I off myself my problems go away and if you are telling me there is booty waiting for me in HELL well then...

Also joking and not condoning suicide as a solution to peoples problems, but if I am old as fuck or have a disease which is going to kill me. I would rather die with some dignity.

There is only one Dr. Death and it was this guy.

If you're dying from cancer or some other horrible disease you can always check out one of the 'Death With Dignity' assisted suicide states. Get a doctor to hook you up.

I think a garden hose hooked up to your exhaust is a cheaper solution. Not an enjoyable way to go, so get super high on nitrous first.

I already have a pimped out handbasket, mine has rims, a bumpin system and a sweet spoiler. Plus I know a shortcut!

Between this and planned parenthood this is a liberals dream. Then once we get rid of all the babies and old people we can import more cheap labor migrants/votes. Then let the games begin.

This is mostly true, except I wanted to point out that the pain that you feel from not getting enough air is from CO2. Your body's reaction that tells your brain "I NEED AIR" comes from too much CO2 dissolved in your blood. You can actually comfortably not breath at all as long as you don't have much CO2 in your bloodstream.

This is a problem for free divers that hyperventilate before diving. They get rid of a very large amount of co2 out of their blood when they hyperventilate, and once they dive there is a chance that they will run out of oxygen and simply blackout underwater without realizing that they need to breathe. Again, your body doesn't detect if you don't have enough oxygen, it only detects too much co2.

Suffocating from CO2 is not pleasant.

quick slash thru jugular and carotid: all over in 15-20 seconds,
lie in bath for easy cleanup.

Then it looks like it can shoot you into space, where you fall into the Sun. That would be awesome. They should make that happen.

Don't want to do it? Don't do it.

Ignorant much?

This is about personal decisions. Watch the documentary.

Ill take the bait.

So it's legal?

Nobody said it wasn't voluntary, every thing I stated is voluntary.

If it was mandatory, wouldn't that be the obamacare death panels?

Electric ranges are just as effective for suicide as gas ranges. Just more painful.

Morbid, but I knew someone who did this: warm bath, raze blade, and cut wrists. Not sure if that is the best way to go, but sadly it worked for her.

How is it being illegal going to impact someome who wants to die and fails lol whaysbthe worst theu can do? Lethal injection?

Here's the thing:

The forms of assisted suicide that exist are not only humane and painless but they're effective. Basically they guarantee death. Anyone attempting to kill themselves on their own can make a mistake and not do so. Depending on the method the person picked they could come out of a failed attempted crippled, mentally challenged, in a coma, or even brain dead. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather be actually dead then brain dead or otherwise unable to care for myself. Plus, the assisted kind gives people time to think and make sure everything is well in order. It gives family more time to be ready. You can have family by your side or near-by, etc. It is a better outcome for everyone. If someone is terminally ill anyway then I say give them the option to end it on their own terms, in a safe (an amusing word to use for the situation) and human manner before their illness deprives them of the chance. Morbid as it is to think about, that option might be the best for the person and their loved ones. Everyone will be sparred from having to go through that slow deterioration and they won't have to deal with the shock and range of emotions that comes from other forms of suicide. Painless assisted suicide would save some amount of heartache.

It wasn't torture. The animals weren't in any discomfort. They just woke up groggy. Nice try though.

I suggest that you look up & read the study. It's quite interesting.
