Assassin’s Creed Origins

I can't wait for 1.05 patch to come out so I can finally enjoy this fucking game you guys keep talking about. I refuse to use a different headset or monitor speakers. Lol my lightning Z at 4k DSR upscale, 20% dsr-smoothness,max settings, want to process all that eye candy and never drop below 60 fps. Happy Thanksgiving fools :LOL:

Black flag is my favorite. I actually enjoyed syndicate somewhat as hard as I don't want to believe that.

Patch 1.05 came out yesterday.

I actually enjoyed syndicate somewhat
Syndicate was a masterpiece. Origins pales in comparison, and despite being a 'good game' it's noticably worse than the other AC games.

Syndicate blew.

Syndicate was largely an on-rails experience from every aspect. It was fine for a QTE game, but not for a game that was supposed to be open world.

I liked Syndicate quite a bit. I thought it was the best traditional AC game since ACII. Though I haven't played AC: O yet. Going to give that a shot tonight.

While it had a good story (The main flaw of Origins) I really -really- disliked the Batman:AA/QTE style combat and generally how locked down in movement the game felt.

Origins is a brilliant game, but the story has some serious issues. It's really my only personal weak part of the game.

Keep in mind I generally prefer the most disliked AC games. AC3 is up there for me, as is black flag. I'd rate Origins in the top 3. The Ezio triology was enjoyable but I largely thought it was average gameplay wise.

The brilliance of Origins is how well executed the freedom/open world gameplay is. In some aspects it feels like Zelda:BOTW in how you can actually go/climb whatever you want and the game world actually begs to be explored.

The major flaw of Origins is how shit the story is. It's pretty horrific and the delivery/continuity of it has serious problems. You can tell this was the area of the game they rushed on.

Origins has the worst melee combat I've ever experienced in a video game. I dread entering combat everytime it happens.
The more enemies there are, or the bigger the enemies are, the worse it is. Animal combat is also terrible (crocs, hippos).

The 'lock-on' system is a god damn travesty.
The 'shield mode' is a god damn travesty.

The whole damn thing is a chore. I still can't even believe they managed they fuck it up this bad.

1v1 combat against smaller enemies, bow combat, and horse combat are mostly fine.

Are you using Keyboard? I could see the system being fairly poor on keyboard, but with a gamepad I find it to be just fine. It's not much different from how Dark Souls works.

I wouldn't say it was on-rails because the main missions gave you plenty of different approaches. It felt very much like the recent Hitman game as an example, but not quite as many options.

Where it does fall flat is the few side missions that repeat over and over again. While the hack and slash gameplay is still fun when done right and London looks absolutely amazing to just run around in, the sheer number of repeating side missions does hurt the game. I would have preferred 2 or 3 more story missions with unique diolgue and objectives if it mean cutting those child liberation missions down by 2/3s.

Btw, I was thinking about this game and Witcher 3 and also Horizon Zero Dawn that I played this year.

Combat:
HZD has both beat with AC a close second. W3 is quite unplayable for me everytime I want to dive back in.

Ranged Combat:
HZD then AC. W3 is abysmal.

Stealth:
AC then HZD and finally W3.

Story:
W3 then HZD and then AC even though I would say neither of them is bad in any form. I loved all stories.

Graphics:
AC Origins, HZD and then W3 a close third.

Side quests:
W3 then AC and then HZD.

Sound:
HZD then W3 and finally AC.

Side activities (like crafting):
AC then HZD and then W3.

Exploration:
AC then W3 and finally HZD.

Overall, I think all of them are on par and 9.5/10 from me.

Some tips. Don't use lock on. Use space a lot especially when you see enemy attacking rather than pulling up a shield just dodge. Use arrows/light bow when you put some distance between enemy and yourself.
Finally, use shift + attack (especially with spear or large cutting axe) as it gives you ability to kill 2-3 enemies at once. Also level up a bit. Always do quests 1-2 levels below yours and you will never have a problem with combat.

All tips apply to animals as well. Crocs only have a tail swipe which you can dodge. Hippos really do suck. You need to press dodge twice to get on their side before you attack otherwise they almost insta turn and have a big fucking mouth.

I finally got the legendary dualies with instant heavy charge. Should help with the shielded enemies.

I must say the PS4 Pro is doing a fantastic job with this game, the HDR is amazing. Having a hard time telling the difference between playing it on my PC with a 1080 Ti and my PS4 Pro. Currently level 16, just finished Alexandria. Game is a lot easier with a controller vs. mouse and keyboard too.

I had to go back to Black Flag to finish unlocking the Ezio outfit.
Also using a glitch to get rid of that stupid shield.

Purchased the game but I'm waiting until my 1080 shows up before I play it. Don't want to start until I can crank all the settings up lol. Right now with my 290 and everything set to a mix of high and ultra I get around 45fps. I look forward to maxing it all out and holding 60+

I've barely done the story but I've cleared all Papyri, Phylakes, locations, & got the Isu armor. Now to somehow defeat the 3 mountains of muscle at different enemy camps I couldn't earlier.

Level 40, 52% completion, 62 hours in

Finally had a chance to start playing the game. Only had time for about an hour last night, but I really like the combat so far. The default keyboard layout needs some work, but that's easy enough to take care of. I'm going to try it with a controller next time I play to figure out which way I like more. I'm able to run it maxed out at 1080p. During the benchmark, the game puts all 12 of the 5820k's threads at between 75 and 82%.

I'm 50 hours in and still tweaking my PC controls every now and then. It's a mess.

I have not gotten any better at combat. For shielded enemies, I just spray arrows at their feet and hope they die before I do. If I get attacked by more than 1 shielded enemy, it's a guaranteed death. Some fights I go from full to dead if the enemy hits me once (combo). I am 10 levels above every zone I quest in, lol.

The biggest problem I've found is the climbing. I wish crouch and climb down were different buttons and climb up as alt is super dumb.
It's the same shitty climbing they've had since like Assassins Creed 2. The next thing they overhaul for the sequel needs to be climbing mechanics.

So far I find my xbox controller works way better in this game than my M+kb, makes it easier to play on the couch anyways lol

Nah, its the tweaked system they've had since Unity. Not a huge difference, but separating up and down for parkor movement was a nice change. I think they do need to overhaul how the character climbs though. I don't like how limited the climbing options were in Horizon, but climbing feels much better in that game than any AC title.

I put climb on my mouse thumb button. Best controls ever.

Also tainted if you can’t manage combat after 50 hours something is wrong with you lol. Are you using sword, spear or cutting axe with shield yet? Also you need to learn how to parry (press Shift to bring up shield and then E when you see an idiot try to strike you). On a successful parry you need to stop pressing shift and go for light attacks preferably you have the light combo which auto executed if you hold down left mouse button. It took me a while to learn to release shift on a successful parry as otherwise it would go for a heavy attack which is sometimes slow to cause any damage. Hope this helps.

Yeah I can't pull off the parries. I've just been using Dodge when they swing at me, or hitting them with a heavy attack to knock them down. I don't have a shield, the daggers have a block ability but idk if it even does anything.

The telecast times are pretty long in this game. Parry really isn't that bad.

Well...For some reason I don't think the game intended the Ibis to be this easy. I was in his base at level 4, just hunting treasure. I run across a tied up prisoner in a house with a sleeping solider. Dispatch the solider and free the prisoner. Decide to look around the house some more. So I go upstairs and see another guy sleeping. Thinking it's another solider I kill him and turn away, right into the face of a solider. I get my weapon ready, all gearing for a fight, when the screen goes white and it goes to the Ibis death stuff. So, in short, I randomly came upon the Ibis sound asleep and killed him without even realizing who he was.
