I just recently built a new PC, minus ps, gfx card and hdd and of course Windows 10 wouldn't reactivate for me with pretty much all new hardware. So I contacted MS support chat and allowed them remote access to my PC and showed them the Amazon receipt showing all the new hardware and they still reactivated Windows 10 for me. Great job MS support. :D

I've never heard of their support needing remote access to your PC to verify a receipt. That's something easily verifiable through e-mail. In fact, in your situation of non-activation, usually the automated phone line solves the issue, quickly, and without ever having to deal with a support agent.

I'm just going to toss this out there, but are you 100% certain it was Microsoft you were dealing with? I ask, because I walked in to my in-laws house about two years ago, and my father-in-law was on the phone with "Microsoft" trying to rid himself of a virus (which he didn't have).

Yup 100% sure. Your right I didn't have to let them remote in but it was much faster than email. Took all of maybe 5-10 min tops. I hate phones with a passion. Either way, cudo's MS support team. :D

This really does sound like you dealt with the "MS support" guys based in a call center in Deli... I would be keeping an eye on your CCs for awhile.

"This is Steeeve with da Computer Security center...." lol

Never a bad idea. Just to be sure, I'd be scanning my system to see if anything was dropped on it. If you looked up the number and reached out to them, you are probably safe. If they called you, I'd be suspicious.

Glad you got it all straightened out. The thing that some here fail to see is, if it was not an actual Microsoft Support Representiive, then how did they activate his OS?

That is a legit site because I've used it before for other Microsoft support issues.

This was the link I used. https://partner.support.services.microsoft.com/en-us/contact/menu/software/windows/setup/ Looks like a MS site to me. I mean who knows these days. :D
So in other words, instead of using arrogant elitism, they treated you like any other user of their product and without even confirming you paid for it, they offered to spend their own time to assist you with your issue and get you activated, without you having to do an excessive amount of the work?

Good job MIKKKRO$$$$$$$$$$OFT (three K's cuz racist)

(no really, that was pretty cool of them)

I've gone through a similar deal when upgrading my PC. I guess if you use a Microsoft account with Windows, they use that authentication to automatically determine that's it's actually you using this new hardware, but I never use an MS account with Windows.

Called in, said I upgraded my computer's hardware, they didn't ask for any kind of verification from me. I let them remote in and they used some powershell voodoo to activate my copy right then and there. Really friendly, really fast, no fuss.

Stuff ringing them, you just start a live chat.

When it comes to activation, MS are pretty much on the ball (I have had a couple of negative experiences). When it comes to any other form of support, MS are fairly hopeless.

The couple times I had to speak with someone at Microsoft they tried to rope me into remote access. No fucking way I give access to anyone especially M$. I'm surprised they do it, makes them look shady as shit since the majority of people asking for access to your PC are scammers.

I give them remote access and I've never had an issue, it works well as I can continue to work on other things while MS rectifies my activation issues for me....

In my case they were asking for remote access when none was needed. I was simply asking them where I could find a download for Windows 8.1 Bing. It had nothing to do with the system I was using and was a simple question. I went back and forth with them for a few minutes until I simply said "you aren't getting access to my system so either help me or not". They then answered my question by saying that there was no download available for Windows 8.1 Bing. Why did they need access to my system to tell me that ? For anyone wondering whether I was actually calling Microsoft I had used the toll free number that came up when trying to activate Windows earlier that day.

Totally agreed, stuff that!
