The Tesla Semi wasn't the only thing revealed on yesterday's presentation. Before ending the its presentation, Tesla also unveiled its next generation roadster prototype. Powered by three motors, two in the rear, and one in the front. The roadster can 0-60 in 1.9 secs, 0-100 in 4.2 secs, does the quarter mile in 8.8 sec and a top speed of over 250 mph. With a 200 kWh battery pack, it has a range of 620 miles and can go 1000 km in one charge at highway speeds, all recording specs.

Those of you with some extra dough can put down $50,000 to reserve your own for $200,000 on the base model, right now. The first 1,000 models sold will be the Founder's series at a price tag of $250,000.

Check out George Clooney's new car
.

As fans gasped, Musk said the Roadster had a 200kwh battery pack and a 620-mile range per charge, or over 1,000 kilometers. Again, another record shattered. Or so Musk claims. Imagine driving to Los Angeles to San Francisco, and back, without recharging, Musk teased.

The hardcore smack down to gasoline cars... yet nobody can afford it. Given the price, I'de take the new ZR1 over this and still have money left over to buy a boat.

8.9 second 1/4 mile, damn. Gotta wonder what that 600 mile range turns into when you're heavy on the.. err quiet pedal.

Finally, decent range! And it costs $200k... has no capacity for anything because it's a sports car, and even though it is a sports car... has Tesla ever gotten a car that can perform at the track yet without the battery overheating? Because if I were to ever spend $200k on a sports car... I'm going to take the thing to the track on occasion. Yeah sure fine you can go to the drag strip and beat people all day long, but an actual race course?

edit: Just did some poking around, sure enough the model s still craps out fast at a normal track. $200k for a stoplight and freeway on-ramp hero... no thanks.

8.8 1/4 mile is sick. I'll be happy to get my new setup into the 9s high 9s that is. Wonder what that setup swapped into a drag car body that weighs less then 2000 pounds would do. Electric is cool and all but I like having that rumble , there is just something about hearing a V8 with a nice healthy cam in it.

Looks like snake oil to me. Their Semi truck boasts some out of this world stats too. I'll believe this stuff when I see it. Until then it belongs in The Enquierer.

Im not sure I get the angst your putting out about the model s not being some track day monster.. As for the new roadster, with an "advertised" 250mph+ topspeed all the issues will need to be sorted, and if tesla has proven one thing, it can ENGINEER a product (of course it takes them a little while to beta test on the consumers ;) lol )

Anyway delivery slips aside, I look forward to seeing what Tesla can do. They are actually driving (pun intended) the market forward, even if it is through their fanboi's

It will have capacity - because it doesn't have a monstrous V12 hiding anywhere. It's a "2+2" which really means it's a 2 seater with room in the back for luggage. Plus it has a trunk (at least big enough to put the roof in to,) and presumably a small "frunk."

This isn't meant to compete with the ZR1. It can beat the ZR1 on every performance metric. It's meant to compete with the $300,000+ supercars. The McLarens, and the Bugattis, and the Ferraris. It's not a Corvette. Or a 911. Or any other "reasonable ultra-high-end sports car." It's a "ridiculously priced supercar."

I'm sure they'll be able to produce them in "volume" simply because it isn't meant to be produced in volume. I imagine they've already made more Model 3s in their four months of "development hell" than they expect to sell Roadsters in the first four years.

Waiting on them to make a half-ton pickup. They said it's coming.
It must have a range of 400+ miles while hauling.

I see lots of brown outs in the future if a metaphorical finger isn't pulled out and the infrastructure upgraded.

The only place it will beat those supercars is in a straight line. Let's see what it will be able to do around the Nordschleife or VIR, then we'll talk. Because that 200 kWh battery pack is going to weigh a fuck ton.

Those acceleration numbers got me speechless. New dream car status achieved. It'll weigh a lot but if they can keep batteries happy , oh boy it'll be beastly. 200kWhr battery means lower power density under most loads, plus diffuser - have a feeling they got this sorted.
The gtr and Camaro are also a fat pig of a car, yet it can go rapidly.
Don't write it off too quick...

Im actually curious what Porsches answer for the Tesla will be because i believe they have an electric super car coming out around the same time

Hey finally a decent looking tesla. I have no clue why they make a normal looking front end, and then just mask off the air intake and send it to production. Like if it doesnt need an air intake, get rid of that style section.

Acceleration isn't the only metric for a sports car. I'm sure the thing would bomb at places like the Nurburgring, as Tesla hasn't shown any of their production cars to not be stuck at lower performance from overheating batteries. Reading about it's handling so far is a good sign. It definitely wasn't there with their old Roadster. Probably cause that was based off a gasoline production car chassis, while this appears to be their own designed chassis.

Really won't know much about how good of a sports car it is, until it's actually in production. For now, I'm going to picture it as good as current Teslas. Great for drag, not for track.

Can someone remind me who just smashed the ring record?

Not to mention the Porsche 911 GT2RS's $300k price tag (base model) put it at super car status.

Every performance metric? Tesla has yet to produce a vehicle that can compete with a Miata on every performance metric. There's more to vehicle performance than quarter mile times, and even if it handles amazingly well... if it just craps out every 1-3 minutes like every other tesla has when taken to a track, it doesn't compete with much of anything.

All that glitters is not gold; how often have you heard that told?

Will Tesla even be in business in 5 years?

There is room for both types of cars in this world. Why are people so angry all the time? Don't be scared homey.

The range is good, but the price is not.

I'm old so I don't need anything that fast, just something with room inside (like a mid sized SUV) and a good range at a reasonable price.

Al the people complaining about the price.

One, give me one super car that can do 0-60 in 1.9 secs.
Two, that's like complaining that the Chiron costs 2 million dollars. Sorry this super car is not for you.

If it really goes that fast and goes that far, 200K is not really that expensive. The Bugatti Chiron, Porsche 918, Ferrari La Ferrari, and McClaren P1 can't do 0-60 in 1.9 secs.

It's a pure Halo car, the price isn't meant for you. It's for the people who collect Bugatti Veyrons.

I think it looks awesome, and has the specs to match.
No, $200k is aiming at people who are looking at an R8, 911 Turbo, 488, Huracán, etc. Someone buying a Veyron is going to laugh at these peasants.

That figures. I'm still waiting on an all electric that can get 250 miles of range with worse case. realistic use scenarios (110 degrees out, 85 mph, air conditioning full blast). This is finally, a hope at a reasonable range, but at a price out of reach for all but the 1%.

If you can name one other car that comes close to those performance metrics for close to that price, I'll agree with you. But those stats are the purview of $1 million plus hypercars. And none of them have a back seat.

I'll be saving my pennies, $200k seems downright cheap for what this car offers.

Meh I don't understand these people, I mean the ones at the announcement, raving and being ecstatic like they announced world peace, or the end of famine and starvation for all of humanity.
It's just a damn car with bragging rights for the elite. Yeah, you're not a humanitarian for buying a 200k electric sports car. You're a humanitarian if you buy basic transportation for 30k then donate the 170k for humanitarian causes.

Another fast car that few can afford. Yawn. EVs remain niche products, unfortunately. And that won't change until battery energy density at least doubles, and prices drop by 50%. And even then, the electric grid will have be massively upgraded.

EV's just don't excite me.

Yes, the acceleration number are fantastic. I really don't care.

It's like the difference between a mechanical watch movement and digital watch. Sure, the digital watch for practical reasons is better in pretty much every way - But it doesn't fascinate me like a mechanical watch does.

And at the end of the day I can fix a standard ICE on my own - Have been for years.

Know how you fix an EV? You don't. There is no re-building an EV. You just have to buy a replacement module that will cost a fuck ton.

Who are these people in the crowd? The sycophantic behavior is just sickening....especially when its clear they aren't "car people".

This maybe true. But if you have a veyron and you take it to 1/4 mile drag strip and get beaten by a 200k electric car it's suddenly a little less funny. Ofcourse I doubt many veyron owners take there car to the dragstrip to begin with but still.

Worse case scenario would be having to blast the heater, not the ac.

He told us who they are in the video. Did you skip that part? They're people who won the right to be there through Tesla referrals, they're executives from trucking companies, and they're Tesla employees.
