ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero vs ASRock Taichi (Z370)

So I have my motherboard narrowed down to two. I'd like to stick with either ASUS or ASRock as I have had the best experience with their motherboards over the years (I know, small sample size) and I like the aesthetics. Keep in mind I will be running an 8700K @ 5Ghz - 5.1Ghz with the RAM running at 3600Mhz. RBG isn't important to me and I will be running one M.2 drive.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero - $260 (after coupon)

Or

ASRock Z370 Taichi - $210 (after rebate)


I was leaning towards the ASUS... But after looking at the features and specs, it looks like I would be getting a similar product if I went with the ASRock (and I like the industrial look of it more).

The ASRock features a 12 power phase delivery system, while the ASUS uses a 10 power phase system. So pretty similar there. They both use high quality Nippon and Nichon capacitors. They have the same number of ports and PCI slots... They both have WiFi and Bluetooth. Their audio chipset is a bit different, but I don't really care.

I'm just not really seeing anything to justify spending $50 more on the ASUS over the ASRock (besides the fact it would match the logo on my monitor better, lol). Is there something I'm missing??

Not sure you are missing anything, when I was shopping for my X299 board I was wondering the same between ASrock and a gigabyte board, the ASrock has everything I need and was cheaper so went with that and it works fine.

Both boards seem to have some issues according to the newegg reviews, but that's to be expected, if you go for the ASrock, check your memory with their QVL list to make sure it will work as there seem to be some complaints about +3.000 Mhz RAM.
 
There's a $40 rebate on the Taichi if you give a review of it on Newegg... Guess that seals the deal for me. At $80 - $100 more expensive, I just don't see what I would get out of the ASUS besides more RBG I'd be disabling.

The G.Skill memory I picked up is on the QVL list, so I shouldn't have any issues there. :)

Yep I got in on the mobile discount for this and 8700k, lessened the blow a bit from Newegg's price gouging. This will be my first ASRock board after years with MSI, hopefully everything goes well. It's a great looking board IMO and feature rich for the price! Love that 12 phase power delivery.
