Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

Battlefront 2 will still probably be one of the Top 5 selling games of the year even with the controversy

Exactly. Because it is star wars. And it has a real story (which to be honest I want to play just for that reason).

They now fixed MP, so I don't see it being an issue anymore? But people will hate EA....Well because it's EA....and they are dirty scumbags.

I wouldn't say they have fixed anything because the concept is inherently flawed. The core issue is that loot boxes and microtransactions allow for real advantages in MP in this game...that has not changed.

I don't mind the unlock/micro-transactions in this game as much as others because 1) I really don't see the vast majority of players paying extra $$ for any sort of unlocks...2) if I don't pay a single $ extra then I'm not missing any content...all it gets you is faster unlocks which takes away the grindy progression...but the progression is what keeps most people playing...if I had everything on Day 1 then it would get boring fast...3) I'm mostly interested in the Starfighter Assault mode which is mostly immune to the controversy

EA really screwed this one up, I like Star Wars but I don't like EA. I noticed that NFS Payback also has a card system built in. I think that EA is a common problem here in the United States where we have a problem with greedy corporations and the avarice is destroying everything. In an ideal scenario EA would go away and all the studios would be independent but we as people are stuck in a hard place because when the day is done, all we wanna do is enjoy our games.

The bottom line is that people pay for DLC and have since day one of it's inception. People continue to pay for microtransactions and it's big business. You can earn everything in the game without paying for it. The unlock prices aren't really all that bad right now, you just need to invest a lot of time in the game which is the point. It leads people to want to spend more real money on the game. I don't know why people bitch about it when MMO's use the same tactic and even move the goal posts once you get geared up. Also, as others have pointed out, this really isn't all that different than the Battlefield games so I'm not sure why this is an issue.

This is how the game industry works. They say vote with your wallet and that's what the gaming community did.

Wow, it's even worse than I originally thought. I'd encourage folks to watch this video for an overview of the issues:

Not only did they decrease in-game credit rewards but there is a 3 hour cooldown for being able to earn credits on certain modes. Unbelievable.

Wait, no, it's EA...totally believable.

Again, there are 2 threads in the News section of these forums, as well as the last two pages of this thread, explaining why people were/are upset.

Also, as others have pointed out, this really isn't all that different than the Battlefield games so I'm not sure why this is an issue.

And again; just because one game does it, doesn't make it any less upsetting when another does.

Well put!

I think at the end of the day, this game isn't the most egregious adaptation of pay-to-win, I think there are far worse offenders. It's totally playable without spending money beyond the initial purchase price. Which is exactly what I intend to do.

From my understanding, it is nothing like Battlefield in terms of hours required. To get most of the vehicle unlocks you can play them for 3-4 hours. For most weapons you get them fairly quickly to, within 15 or so hours you can have most of them.

If I recall in BF3, I got all of the Artillery (or was it Tank Destroyer?) unlocks in around 2 hours. The only hard part of BF4 was certain accessories required 50 or so kills. This was not much of a problem for most people, but since I can't stand cheap Chinese airsoft accessories it was a bit of a pain to unlock an Eotech for some of the weapons. But it wasn't a concern for most.

BF1 the unlocks took a bit longer and I don't have all of them. There is also less content all around. But still, you could get good weapons fairly quickly. I think i have most of the weapons and vehicle unlocks at 50 hours in.

The reasons are largely irrelevant. People have made this a viable business model. Until that changes, EA is going to keep doing it.

And again; just because one game does it, doesn't make it any less upsetting when another does.

Again, it doesn't matter. So long as people keep paying for microtransactions, companies will continue to use them for generating additional revenue.

Vader costs 15,000 in game credits to unlock. I'm at 9k from a running through the single player campaign and a couple of matches. The main thing to bitch about, it's how totally random unlocks for many things are.

Furthermore, even buying these games in the first place reinforces that behavior by the developers. Solution is to not buy the games.

Never knew Redbox rented PC games?......O wait who the hell plays a FPS on a console....poor kids
I always prefer my fps games on pc. but last night I played titanfall 2 single player on xbone for about 45 min and i did alright.(didn't trust pc count) I'm 80-90% sure I'll pick up the pc version of BF2 this weekend. it seems really good so hopefully, we'll have a good count for 6 months at least. how many of yall gonna show up on pc in launch window?

Can anyone explain why Reddit is so butt hurt over this game? Nobody is FORCING anyone to buy in game credits.....just play the damn game. So far I've been having a blast with it!

I bet if you asked the majority of people who are upset over this controversy they wouldn't be able to detail exactly what the issue is...meaning they are just jumping on the bandwagon 1) because it's cool to hate EA...2) they had no intentions on buying the game anyway but thought it would be cool to jump into a good internet uproar

Agreed, and on that note, were doomed. Does no one remember:

The only mode I play on Battlefront 1 is fighter squadron. I have zero interest in the people shooting aspects. And for this, I want to be comfy on the couch and play on the big screen, hence PS4.

I use and work on computers/servers all day long and sometimes I just don't want to sit in front of a PC.

True, but you could easily built a small computer in your front room and do the same thing with a PS4 controller. It's what I do on my 60 inch TV. Works great :) This way you get the top notch graphics, and can still game with the best of them.

I love it, so many suckers!!! Now I see that people where trying to get refunds for this crap. EA just made it harder to get a refund for this preorder. Now you have to chat to one of the people at EA. But that's a big problem with soooo many people trying to get the refund. That the system is so bogged down. hahaha suckers every where. I never and never will do a preorder. When you fools going to learn that EA don't give a shit about you just your money!:ROFLMAO:

Now I just want to pirate it, play the single player campaign and delete it.

I was going to buy it, but EA shitting on people and making it damn near impossible to get a refund has made me hate them even more.

Origin sucks fucking dick, too. I want that awful program to die in a fire.

Revolting practice, and confirmed by DSO.

Its getting plenty of mediocre reviews as well.

Game Informer - 6.5/10
Shacknews - 6/10
The Telegraph - 3/5
Trusted Reviews - 3/5
Gamespot - 6/10 (in progress review score)
IGN - 7/10 (in progress review score)

Honestly if the game didn't have microtransactions, or if the microtransactions were all cosmetic, I'd probably buy this. I love grinds.
I love cosmetic microtransactions, too.

OK now I am angry lol! Thanks for this.

I get it now....but I will say if you ignore all of the hate and just play the game...it IS really fun! I got about halfway through the single player last night and had a blast. It's a pretty game too.
So what.

Don’t unlock everything

Have fun

Play the game. Enjoy it

When it becomes a grind instead of fun, then uninstall it

I’m sure I’ll get my $54 value preorder in fun in the star fighting alone and move on when I get bored. I have no need to unlock everything.

the progression system definitely sounds grindy but I think Star Wars fans will appreciate the game a lot more...the game nails the feeling of being in the Star Wars universe...as one of the reviews I read stated--- "Battlefront 2 isn’t trying to be a competitive game, it’s trying to be a lighthearted Star Wars shooter, and it does that pretty well...that philosophy doesn’t excuse the Star Card system by any means, but it’s why I could still have fun in spite of it"

The insidious truth is that EA is now making a gambit for turning all of its published games into live services stuffed to gills with predatory microtransactions....its has even admitted this.

No different to the slippery slope people warned about when Bethesda charged dumb asses for horse armor but were derisively dismissed as fear mongers, now we are fucking drowning in this bullshit.
