Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

EA has now officially changed how much credits it will cost. 60k to 15k for Luke and Vader.

2nd major microtransaction change by EA pre-release...I like the fact that they are listening to feedback and changing things...a good sign...most of the people complaining are just looking for a reason to hate on EA...I'm not saying that the complaints are not legitimate but I think they are being overblown

it was 10k during the beta, then it got jacked up to 60k and now it is down to 15k

are we in a stockmarket or something ? all heroes should be available from the get go anyway, they totally ruined heroes vs villains mode with their dumb ideas, this picture speaks for itself lol

That's a fucking joke. They have a game mode that only works with unlocks so this shit happens? Wow.

this Hero unlock controversy only applies to that Heroes vs Villains mode right?...I'm mostly going to be playing Starfighter Assault so it doesn't really effect me

lol. I think it may apply to other modes as well.

the microtransaction/Hero unlock thing is s overblown...how many people do you think are actually going to pay $$?...it's such a small number...as far as Hero unlocks, it's a multiplayer game!!...the whole point is about progressions and unlocks...it's a core aspect of every MP game...you can't unlock everything for every player on Day 1

Number will be way higher than you think.. most people don’t care about the progression aspect, they want the instant gratification of having all the hero’s with the least amount of work possible. Not to mention the fact that you can be locked out of the mode because all your unlocked characters have already been selected. That will just drive people to spend the money to unlock all of them so it’s a non issue.. on the business side it’s a smart move by EA to make bank off the casuals but it’s narrow sighted.

you underestimate how cheap most gamers are...plus the principle of paying $$ on top of what they already paid is not something I see most people doing...

this game looks good and all future dlc is free. I'm gonna wait and see if theres a deal around black friday though. also the mp map design looks nice and it reminds me of bf 2142. I never played the first battlefront.

I think you underestimate just how good the EA business model is. For starters, Gamers aren't cheap. The ones that are, normally are cheap because they have to be. Gamers buy PC's costing three or four times more than the average computer. Gamers are also feeding the microtransaction model and have made it successful. Microtransactions are starting to make as much or more money than the games do. EA's business strategy for Battlefront II (2017) seems like a solid one.

comparing people who build high end PC's to people willing to pay microtransactions in games is not a straight line...it's totally unrelated...look at the people in any of the popular gaming forums (including [H])...they are the ones most vocal against these DLC's and microtransactions

Yes the government and big business have boiled public manipulation down to a science. From every direction, at all times, from every source, they attempt to skew our perception of reality and control opinions.
Unfortunately even places like Reddit, which are supposed to be controlled by the voice of the people, are also corruptible. In fact Reddit is even MORE dangerous because it carries a veil of propriety, which builds a false sense of trust and security.

I'm not a supporter of Alex Jones but I really like the phrase "Info War", perfect description. We are in a constant battle for the truth.

EA didn't really listen. The boycott on reddit did it. They locked the thread on reddit. There will be a lot of fools that will pay. Come on EA made 800 million off microtransactions.

I just did the first mission on the trial- I have to say, it's a sleek looking and feeling game on my setup, and I'm consistently getting >100FPS, all settings maxed. Closer to 150FPS really, but I'm not logging.

Just not sure the game is worth the US$59 (with Access discount, after tax) EA is charging me. I don't think I'll put the time into it, and I'm mostly interested in what appears to be a very short single-player campaign.

wait for it to hit the vault, 60$ is 60$ heck I'm not even sure if I should renew my 25$/year subscription at this point ...

Does this version support private servers that can be filled with bots, like the old Battlefronts can?

Yeah, I got the Access subscription on the cheap, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered at all...

And given that I'm really only interested in the single player, I think I'll take your advice: I'm in no hurry, and EA is still getting their money.

multiplayer FPSs can do just fine without permanent unlocks, "player progression" and all that crap, you should have already known this unless you didn't happen to play any online MP games during the late 90s - early 00s

bf1942 and vietnam had 0 unlocks, same for RTCW, wolf ET which was a more "casual" version of RTCW MP (also 100% f2p ) had only temporal unlocks and a 6 map campaign mode ( brilliant idea at the time, I've only seen it in Red Orchestra 2 since then ... )

overwatch has 0 unlocks as well, dirty bomb ( ET's spiritual succesor ) forces you to spend money only if you care about "limited edition" skins, since it's very easy to unlock bronze loadouts without spending a single dime. same goes for pubG and CSGO ...

You must have slept in a cryochamber during the last 10 years or something :p

late 90's?...it's 2017 now, I was referring to modern games...if everything were unlocked they would charge you $100 for the base game

I still cannot fathom why people are still defending EA, even in this very thread. Mind boggling.

That is why this shit continues to happen, and continues to get worse and worse.

Because I don’t give a shit as long as I’m having fun with the game? I wouldn’t go so far as to defend EA, but I think all the outrage and drama is just overblown (reddit tards sending death threats to developers).

Death threats are always stupid, to be sure, but to say it's overblown when EA pulls this crap time and time again is willful ignorance.

If you want to keep paying more and more for less and less content, by all means, keep buying these games.

But they will because Star Wars. Anything with the Star Wars name is a license to print money. These DICE games are the best looking and sounding Star Wars games so EA can do whatever the fuck they want and know they'll sell sell sell, which is probably why they don't fear this particular angry mob. The $80-$100 price tag says it all.

of course they fear negative backlash which is why they made 2 major changes to unlocks/micro-transactions prior to release

They lowered the (absurd) cost of unlocking heroes
They lowered rewards (campaign confirmed)

As SC-SI Terminator posted up top; EA didn't 'fix' anything. They've just done the bare minimum.

they lowered the cost of Hero unlocks in a major way...it may not be fixed but it's a big improvement...there are people that are not going to be happy until it's 100% free which is not going to happen...I don't know of any other EA release where they made major concessions like this prior to release...that shows that they are listening to feedback and I'm sure they will tweak the system even more post-release

here's a good article detailing the issues and potential ways they can fix it...

I honestly don't care what they do, but I do find it funny that you did exactly what SCSI-Terminator posted earlier:

And of course, inexplicably, forums will be filled with people who for whatever reason are desperate to point out that your outrage is outdated. You'll say "It takes too long to unlock heroes" and they'll pop up to tell you and everyone else that EA "made changes" to that. Complain about loot box percentages? They "made changes!" What changes? Who gives a fuck. Changes!!!! Every complaint you have will be met with someone who wants to tell you that the reason you have for being upset is outdated.

you can reverse that theorem and the same would apply...the people that are complaining want something to complain about so no matter what changes are made they will continue to think of something else to rant about

The way I see it, the game is fun and the unlocks aren't all that bad. Sure there are a lot of them but you don't have to spend any money on anything. Gear helps but it won't make a shitty player a good one. A good player can get by without it.

from what I remember there were also a TON of things to unlock on BF4, and I do not remember people bitching about it. I mean hell you could buy everything in BF4 with 1 price.

Pay to Win has been going on for a long time from Dice. Why people are upset about it now is beyond me.

The last 2 pages of this thread, and the ones in the News section of these forums, have explained why it's caused so many people to be upset.

"Other companies/games do it" is not a valid reason.

But here is the thing. It is not other companies. It is the same company who started this trend with BF4. Why the outrage now? Because it's star wars?

There has been outrage the whole way, it's just coming to a head now with this game. Eventually it will get so bad that more people will say "Enough!"...maybe we're starting to get to that point.

Maybe. There was considerable backlash for how much content was lacking in last year's game. That certainly didn't help things.

But regardless, the outrage has always been there. And chances are we're going to have this exact argument this time next year.

Yea I dont think it will ever change to be honest. Let people bitch and complain. It will change some things, but EA wants their money. And people will pay.
