WD - Easystore 8TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - $129.99

Some people are saying these are white label refurb drives. Others are saying they're new reds. Only one way to find out.

Do you suppose it's legal to sell a refurb drive as new? Answer that and you'll know if it's 'refurb' or not.

I've bought 4 of these so far, last one just a week ago and everyone has had a new red drive in it.

these are NEBB model number. Seems to be a BB BF 2017 exclusive model. Havent found any solid evidence on whats inside

Have you bought this particular one in this thread? Cause BB has 2 different ones listed on their site now, this one for $130 and the other for $200. They have different model numbers, so I'm trying to find out if these cheaper ones also have the Red drives in them.

The white label drive in these are not refurb, they are just a changed label likely to stop people from pulling the drive to resell.
There is a Reddit page about it.

It's showing as "only available for shipping" for me, if it's the same for you, may as well order one now.

sometimes if you're lucky and don't get a d-bag CSR you can get them to honor the website price in store since they're required to price match. their first excuse is always that their website and stores are separate from each other thus meaning they have to price match their own site. :p

the one reason i want to go in store is that i know all their 8TB drives are WD reds and not white labels.

Yeah I see sold out and none in stock at local stores. Not sure if these contain the red 8tb drive. The model number is different.
BF Deal - Model: WDBCKA0080HBK-NEBB - SKU: 6110900
BB Exclusive - Model: WDBCKA0080HBK-NESN - SKU: 5792401

The ones in store for $180-200 are a different model and SKU.

btw what happens if you put a 8tb drive into an older device that's not aware of the size extension, will it still work as 4gb?

thinking of an older security DVR I have where I might get a newer DVR later and recycle the drive

I think some of the confusion might be coming from the fact that previously (and probably still now), the industry naming of "white label" meant the hard drives were refurbished drives, sometimes with their SMART data wiped and with their original factory label removed and replaced with a generic white label. For example, something like this drive. The "white label" in these WD easystore drives refers to the fact that they have a factory label that is all white, rather than red accented that you'd find with the normal WD Red drives, despite being basically the same physical drive (aside from usually the white label ones, the EMAZ ones, have different firmware that uses that 3.3V feature).

one person in the reddit thread has gotten their drive so far, it had a WD80EMAZ-00WJTA0 inside it aka white label but it's still the same WD red drive other than potentially having the 3.3v issue in older NAS's.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY DID I SEE THIS SO LATE!!!
DAMN YOU STUPID BLACK FRIDAY THREADS!!!!!!!

yeah you're right didn't notice that..fuuuuuuuuuuu
I thought you knew there were 2 different models. I figured from your post you were going to try and price match the $180 model with the $129 price of the online one.

How reliable are these drives? Just as reliable as the REDs? I am building a NAS soon and need about 6x8TB drives.

nah didn't notice the slight difference in the model name. although there's been a couple people that have gotten lucky and had the $180 model in store price matched to the one on the website but most people have struck out trying that including myself.

from what everyone else has said internally they're the same drives, the white labels are slightly different since they're meant to be used for the enclosures instead of a desktop drive.

Says on the page BLACK FRIDAY AD DEAL.

Does that mean this will be a black friday thing?

That's what im counting on.... The fact that they only sold like 1/2 stock or something saving the other half for ACTUAL Black Friday and not...... White Wednesday?

I've been running my 8TB since Thursday, working perfectly fine. Shucking was surprisingly easy, no damage to the case so warranty will be intact. Had one of the "good" molex to sata adapters laying around, and it booted up perfectly fine. All in all this was a LOT simpler than I expected.
