Dying Light - zombies, 4-player co-op

I'm finding this game almost too hard to enjoy. I want to enjoy it casually but the rate at which items break/wear-down is too fast with too few repair kits, and the zombies are too hard to kill. To conserve my items I try to resort to kicking and melee but I could kick them over 10 times and they'll still get back up and when I am surrounded by 10+ zombies it's a nightmare. Also, those big fuckers with the concrete block hammers take forever to kill too. For the most part I avoid all confrontations but sometimes you have to kill like in the part I am at now where there is a bus trapped with people in it and you have to clear the parking lot of zombies first... and there are a lot.

I really wish there was a easier mode I could play b/c at first I played it quite a lot but now that I got back into it after quite a few months lapsed it's just immediately frustrating.

Maybe you need to hoard more junk; I don't think there's a limit to how much junk you can carry (just a limit on weapons and some other items), so when you're out and about, loot what goodies you can, especially duct tape, saw blades, and so on.

When I was early in the game I was a bit concerned about the difficulty, but it got easier as I leveled up, just fill in the skill tree for what you think you'll be using. You also don't need to be concerned about time; you can run around and do side missions and progress the main story at your own pace. Also, pick up the air drops when they come down, that gets you a bunch of XP so it might be in your best interest to run around and do side missions and then run for the air drops as they occur.

What djoye said. You should be collecting and buying weapon recipes to craft the generic melee weapons you find scattered around. Don't get too attached to a weapon, as you can most likely make another one or find something better after leveling up. The Survivor or Power passive tree also has 2 skills (IIRC) that will increase the number of hits you get out of all weapons before breaking. The game is kind of unforgiving at the start, but it becomes a cakewalk by the end.

I bought the four pack this weekend for my son, myself and a friend of his and we played quite a bit. Fun game. Was hard to get the parkor or whatever its called down, but now I can get away from most things. Although the baby crying thing was a surprise and reminded me of the witch from L4D series. Definitely a good 4 person coop zombie survival game.

So on my 3rd playthrough (Nightmare) I finally found a way to totally disable all of the annoying blur and other post effects that have plagued this game since day one. Dying Light has AT LEAST two different types of blurs, along with a puke-green color filter, and tons of CA + Film grain. It's fucking PAINFUL to look at.

https://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/12/

I just copied his changes into the existing game files, since the game has been patched a bunch I don't know if his mod files are compatible anymore. But the changes still work.
Those tweaks combined with the CA and Film Grain settings disabled finally produce a natural, clear picture.

Can you post a screenshot with this mod?

I enjoyed this game a lot. That early mission where you have to get the lights from the bridge was creepy as hell. Nighttime in general is creepy in the game. I need to play it again at some point. I tried playing Dead Island after I finished Dying Light and it just didn't grip me like DL did.

This might've been my favorite zombie game I've ever played.

The only thing I never did was replay it on ... uhh I forget what its called.... basically like replaying diablo on nightmare mode etc.

Dead Island was a great premise with a flawed execution.

Dying Light was pretty great though, I agree. Basically what Dead Island should have been.

By the end the quarantined zones creeped me out more. I purposely went out hunting for Volatiles at night. Near the end coming out of the tunnel being swarmed by them, I think I was killing them for more than half an hour before realizing that they just endlessly spawned. I had a compulsion to try and kill them all. I never lost that feeling of dread as the sun goes down, though. Your first encounter with the Volatiles is also still intense no matter how many times I play it. The way the set up all of the critical scenes in the game rouses up your feels in all the right ways.

Agreed. It has that 70s-80s zombie film vibe to it and executes it flawlessly.

You mean New Game+? I never did, either. In this game I like the feeling of starting from nothing.

Yes, New Game+.

I think that almost enough time has passed where I may feel like replaying this.... I'm not sure.

I will say, the end "boss" fight was a joke though. Basically nothing you had weapon-wise mattered.

That kind of shit really....really... pisses me off
And the climb up the tower when you near the top and have to make some awkward jumps. The interior parts up to that point were pretty good.

The end was kind of an anticlimactic letdown in that sense, but everything leading up to it was great IMO. I wish it had been handled differently but it wasn't really enough to change my overall opinion of the game.

I just bought it yesterday on steam, only been at it about an hour or so and it's fun so far.

I bought Dying Light- Enhanced Edition for $19.99 a few months back via Humble Bundle sale...still haven't played it yet but it looks fun

I picked it up a long time ago and this reminds me to get back into it. If you can grab it on sale (Steam itself or someplace that grants a Steam key), get The Following Enhanced Edition version to end up with most of the DLC sans a handful of small/cheap packs that grant special outfits. Oh and they even support Linux! One downside - do NOT buy on GOG in this case - unless they've changed things, GOG and Steam matchmaking are entirely separate and there are WAY more players on Steam. Maybe they've fixed this since but just be a bit careful.

One noteworthy element is the devs are continuing to add new content and there's a modding scene too. For instance I see a post that they added a free update that granted the ability to craft a pistol silencer! They also have advertised there will be a new game mode called "Bad Blood" coming in 2018 which is a multiplayer "Cooperative + Competitive" campaign of sorts. You can sign up to test it on the DyingLight website.

Overall Dying Light is one of the more enjoyable first person zombie games around and is incredibly immersive (those who get motion sick, this one may bother you). The only thing that bothers me is that last I checked there were no choices of alternative skins for multiplayer ; every character was the same guy possibly in different clothes. If nothing else, offering a single female skin would have been nice at least for female players; I wonder if someone has modded it in.

I enjoyed the game but to be fair I have not played the DLC. I own it but have not played it. They add a vehicle and people say it takes away from the parkeur elements of the game. But in the base game there is a ton to enjoy. look in the thread though for macros you may find useful. Like auto scan, slide, and some other melee move.

I've been enjoying DL for about 2 weeks now.

It's nice to finally have a new zombie game where you're actually sweating ammo etc. (ala Resident Evil 1/2)

To you guys just starting: The game gets better once you get a few items. The beginning and last 5 minutes were the worst parts of the game in my opinion.
The game goes from being a total nightmare to being piss easy in about 5 to 10 hours. Even the hardest difficulty barely makes a difference. The DLC weapons you start with can trivialize early game, too. Especially THE BOW.

I just tried my 3rd playthru entirely at night, and it was actually easier...

So my advice:
1. Play on Hard or nightmare difficulty. I recommend Hard for brand new players. Only use Normal if you're fooling around with your bro's.
2. Don't use any of the starter DLC blueprints.
3. Don't use any online guides, re: blueprint locations, min-maxing. You will be tempted to use a wiki, like Minecraft or something, but don't do it.

Also the game is easily moddable, most of the data is stored in basic text ini files. I recommend some graphical mods to clear up all the post-effects this game uses, mostly blurs, if that kind of thing bothers you.

Are you talking about "The Following" expansion? I think that's the only place they've added a vehicle, and it doesn't detract from the game at all. Plus, it's not DLC, it more of a stand-alone game.

Extremely underrated game from a good guy developer that did dlc right. And a co op experience that ranks right up there with Borderlands in terms of mechanics and fun factor.

I wonder if it wasn't more popular because it came at the tail end of the zombie apocalypse and Walking Dead pop culture fad - it came just a little too late - and people had burned out again.

I just asked for a refund, I bought this under the pretense of having fun, and honestly its not, its jittery and annoying AF.

What do you mean "jittery" - if you mean tearing graphics etc... then perhaps there's a fix. If you mean the game's mechanics with parkour and realistic movements etc... well that's a bit different. Did you turn down headbob and some of the other motion effects? What were your settings for vsync, motion blur etc...? Overall the first person parkour mechanics are one of the game's greatest strengths, but it does take some getting used to and those with motion sickness may not be able to play.

My patience with videogames is pretty thin these days, unless its something I really want to play, I won't stick with it, I got tired of fucking with it anymore and refunded. I bought Agents of Mayhem for brain dead fun, but I do also want to pickup Salt and Sanctuary...

The new L4D2 gear is insanely over-powered early game. I had the same complaint with the very first pre-order bonus DLC weapons (Wrench Kiss, etc) and especially the bow.
I just started a new playthrough with the Ultimate edition (*all* dlc gear). The golf club from the L4D2 pack does something like 150 damage, starter wrenches and pipes do about 20-30. 5 minutes into the game and I can already craft multiple golf clubs -- very easy. Additionally, the Ranger Bow kills most enemies in a single headshot. The heavy boss you fight at the first power station (first boss in the game during the tutorial) died in a single arrow. Normally he takes like 20-30 melee hits on Nightmare.

I'm also looking for mods to add challenge but it seems like everything is out of date.

Even w/o all the benefits the game is still far too easy. Within the first hour you can basically have enough supplies to carry you for the rest of the game especially if you raid the "loot Hospital" right at the start.

I think the best bet is to just uninstall all of the DLC, which is a shame because you lose the skins, or I guess just try to avoid using any of the gear... even by accident. It clogs up your blueprint screen though and it would be impossible for new players to tell the difference.
