Significantly more than my 8350. I am not comparing to the 7820x, I never was lol. Perhaps my post was a little confusing originally. I am not interested in the 7820x as I don't deal with much in the multi threaded world. What little I do is done on my plex server, which has a Ryzen 1700x. For MY needs on my new pc, single thread speed holds the crown. The 8700k still has the most value, because the extra cost for the cores of 7820x are not useful to me. I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer for the 8700k to have some real availability.
Oh! Then hell yeah. :)
I don't play many 2D games anymore but if I do it's at 4K, so I don't use the cpu as much.

My 7820x at 5GHz runs 223cb, at 4.8GHz it runs 214cb
I think that's the same as an 8700k. You've got yourself a real nice chip sir :)

IIRC though 4.9 was the fastest binned 7820x from SiliconLottery. Definitely wouldn't expect most people to get your results

sorry can someone remind me again why going from 6c CFL-S to 8c CFL-S both on 14nm++ will need a new mobo?

maybe mobo OEMs will make it compatible like they did with 6700k to 7700k.

We do not know IF there will be a 8c CFL-S and we don't know if it will work on a z370 board when it gets here.

How much slower at 4.5 is the 7820x in single threaded?
According to the numbers posted by OC3D, the 7820x overclocked at 4.8ghz shows 171/2020 Cinebench R15 single/multithreaded, 147/1751 stock. The 7700K is at 168/963 stock. So even overclocked, single core it's not even threatening the Kaby Lake i7. For giggles, the best score posted by Ryzen is 110/1715 for an overclocked 1700x. A later review shows the 8700k at 187/1583 overclocked as the best single core number (158 stock), 1679 overclocked as the best multhreaded number. So for gaming it's still an i7 ball game... it's all about the megahertz.

110/1715 for Ryzen? If I read that right, the single is way off from [H]ard's testing and others.

No.

Don't believe everything you read....especially OC3Ds early Sky-X testing.

Would you be able to tell if you had the 7820x and 8700k both running at 4.5? Yes, in fps it might be greater, but I bet it would not make a difference.
8700k is good if your only gaming.

Whoa calm down there... The 8700K is also quite good at other things and I can use your exact argument against you. That said...

I actually can see difference but only because I play HFR games. On my 165HZ Gsync monitor, the difference between 60FPS and 120-165 FPS is VERY noticeable. BF1 at 60FPS feels odd now compared to what I normally run it at (about 90FPS).

And would prob not be much different with a 7820x OC t0 4.5+. It all depends on what the intended use is.

I do not agree with their benches at all. Many other ones show the 7820 like in the 190s. Something was really wrong with that motherboard. He loaded one version of the bios and gained like 20 pts of IPC and another bios version and lost the same 20 pts. There was something seriously flawed in their testing.

Hagrid remember that 8700k is only beast mode in gaming because it has a massive clockspeed due to turbo. If you do an all core 4.6 on the SkyX and the 4.6 on the 8700K I bet you wont tell a difference. The 8700K is a nice ass chip for pure gaming. But my god it was not fun at H265 encoding. My Threadripper even cored down to 8/8 (smt off), I edited because I made a typo earlier* for comparison was generating more FPS in Handbrake probably due to the quad channel alone. FOr productivity I agree with x299 but for pure gaming hands down the 8700k for its simplicity and raw clocks. If you can get one.

And in saying so I am going to replace my 8700K with a 7820x tomorrow as I feel for my needs the extra cores and quad channel make sense plus im a gamer.

My threadripper is flipping awesome as hell but I do not need both so I am probably going to sell my threadripper and wait to get a higher core count Coffee Lake X or IceLake X when and if they come out, unless Zen 2 is retarded fast and blows our minds which it may or maynot be. Probably may not haha

I mean if you want good gaming and good MT apps, then 7820x should be close enough to the 8700k in games to not make much difference. Even if you don't need too much MT stuff, if you have the $$, might as well get more cores.

Yeah totally. and I made a typo. I didnt compare my threadripper at 6 /12 with the INtel. I confused my posting and typed the INtel as 6/12. My Threadripper was scaled down to 8/no smt and it felt faster. I was attributing that to the quad channel memory really. The two extra zen cores are definitely not faster than a coffee lake cores but the RAM matters in Video encodes hence why I just know I would miss out on having 4x channel ram so I want to go x299 instead of coffee lake z370.

Yeah, from all I have read the TR is just fine at games. I will be waiting a bit for an upgrade since the current cpu I have is more than enough for me.

Oh that 5960 you have is still a little monster. Remember IPC hasnt changed worth a drop of piss in like 5 plus years. Intel has really kicked the can for long enough. 8700K is just so high because its insanely clocked right now out of the box. The out of box experience is high because of the clock speed. The two extra cores help but realistically in gaming not as much as one would think in the contemporary. Yeah Threadripper runs games great but I also like to esport on my Acer Predator 240hz and the Threadripper is no beuno at 1080p compared to sky or kaby lake IPC. That is my main and only beef. Hell I might keep both platforms. Just use the Threadripper when I am bored with the x299 and use the x299 when I am bored with the x399

Yeah, my son plays CS:GO and so he got the 7700k when it came out. So I got this cpu, 512 m2, and MB from him for $600. :)

Yeah, from all I have read the TR is just fine at games.

By that logic, so are i3's...

Performance for the price for gaming is lacking, and if you want to hit >60FPS, you might want to look at building a separate system.

For crunching data, it might even be worth building a separate TR system.

From what I have read, yes, the I3's are too. So? The TR can do some good DC'n for [H] where the I3 can not. ;)

7820x on stock settings does 178, not 147. I guess OCC3D used a beta BIOS with turbo disabled or something. SKL-X @4.4GHz does 196. So at 4.8GHz it would do: 196 * 4.8 / 4.4 = 213.81, and TahoeDust got 214cb @4.8GHz

Another question to what benefit would one realize on a 7820x using 3000 mhz ram opposed to 3600? That big of a difference or very little?

Very little. 3200 is probably the sweet spot for price/performance on both platforms ATM. You do see a little Hain going higher but not worth the big price increase for 3600 ram.

Agreed.

Above that tends to require timing numbers which somewhat negate the higher clocking anyway, unless you're spending a fortune on crazy binned memory. And don't do that - it will not translate to any significant performance as measured by a number of sites. You get the IF to a good freq and you're solid.

And truly, the best advice to AMD customers - PLEASE really look at and believe the QVL list for memory. It actually matters. Intel customers get a bit of a pass on this, as any unit's XMP profile will boot and work. AMD's design is a bit different and a little more touchy, so a bit more vigilance is required.

Duuuuuuuuuddddeeeee is the 8700k available anywhere yet?!?!?! We are coming up on a month after launch day, I still can't find one..... Lame!

Duuuuuuuuuddddeeeee...they were instock at newegg for an hour or so this morning and also yesterday morning.

I am almost dead sure I did setup an autoscript to alert me when they came in, but maybe it got lost in the shuffle. Thanks for the update, I'll go over and setup a new alerrt over there now...

Second hand market prices are tanking, if I can't sell my 8700K within a day or two it looks like I'm gonna do a build with it.

Newegg has had stock off and on for awhile, but yesterday was the first time I actually received a notification from them that the 8700k was in stock. I was able to get one and pick it up after work via will call. It seems they’re getting quite a bit of stock and each time, it seems to remain in stock longer and longer.

Good to know, thanks! I already did my build with i3 and overclocked to 5ghz, so it is destroying games with my 1080 ti but the real reason I built the computer was for audio virtual instrument live playing at low latency. My apps take advantage of multithreading so I really need the additional cores. Looking forward to that 8700k.

Did you buy one just to resell it or what?
Yes. I bought it with a Newegg gift card hoping to turn it into cash. Their slow-ass shipping cost me about $100 in just a 24 hour period. They're down to about $550 now, anything below $500 and I lose money.

If the market drops to $500 I will pop her open and do the build. Just hope it's a good chip.

I don't mean to sound judgemental, but are you guys actually buying chips just to try and scalp them for a profit??? Man... Sorry but that is dark. If you're gonna do it, though, what's the point of coming here to brag about your greed? How is it related to the subject of this thread, which as far as I can tell is supposed to be Coffee Lake specs and technical findings by users who have acquired them and tested them?

I think you are over reacting a little. It is not as if he is hiding hundreds of CPUs in his basement for the misery of others. He is willing to sell his to the person who is willing to pay $500+ for it, and that person will be just as happy as someone willing to pay only $400 for it.
It is Intel's fault that not enough CPUs were made, not Tainted Squirrel's. It was their greed that caused people to chase a mostly paper launch in order to divert potential Ryzen purchases.

When only 1000 products are produced, only 1000 people can be satisfied. In this case, it will be 1001 since Tainted Squirrel will also be satisfied if he can turn a profit.

I don't really care about the money, I'm willing to break even but obviously not willing to take a loss. I have nearly $2k in Newegg gift cards that I would like to convert to USD. Especially since the site has had a lot of bad news recently I don't want to have that much at stake in their site.

Just sell them man. I sold a $500+ giftcard on this forum a few months ago. I think I got ~$30 less than value...

Ah I see, sorry I did not realize from your original posts that was why you were doing that. Without knowing you were simply taking a roundabout way to convert giftcards to dollars, it just seemed like you were trying to scalp a chip for a huge profit just like Microcenter and the rest of the deep dark corporate moguls! I understand now. Good luck getting rid of those gift cards. As mentioned above you might just be able to sell the giftcards directly at a small loss.
