I would love to have one, but it was just too hard to justify when I bought an iPhone 7 last year. Pocketing that money for the 2018 follow-up.

Essential PH-1 = 141.5 x 71.1 x 7.8 mm
iPhone X = 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm

I think the best of both worlds if you could afford it, would be to own both the Essential phone, and the iPhone X. Size wise they couldn't be any closer, they are nearly identical in size within a millimeter or so. With 5.7" and 5.8" screens respectively. So would be cool to have two extremely similar full screen devices, but with both OS's to switch back and forth on.

The Essential phone is a great stock Android type phone for a budget price of $499, and the latest update this week, really smoothed out performance per real reviews, and people saying each update every two weeks have been really turning this phone around, to be a better performer than when it first launched. And Oreo is due in December with a dark mode settings too, and even more bug fixes, etc...

I know the Essential phone isn't as premium as the iPhone X, the Essential doesn't have wireless charging, it's not IP67, doesn't have an OLED screen, but the size of it is almost exactly to the iPhone X, and it runs stock Android, which is Google's pure OS. I think an Essential next to the X would just be cool to have them both.

I am very curious about the iPhone X compared to the iPhone 8 Plus;

- Performance ? I would think the 8 Plus will have a little faster / better performance than the X, due to the 8 Plus having lower res screen, and not having all the Face ID cameras running and stuff ?
- Battery life ? Again I would think the 8 Plus will get better battery life than the X, for same reasons as above ?

Hardware wise both the iPhone X and iPhone Plus share the exact same processor, the same RAM, the same hard drives, same camera ?

Apple has already said the 8 Plus will have better battery life. It's in the specs. The difference is that the X is smaller and barely larger than the regular 8 while having nearly the same battery life as the 8 Plus. Just based on the dimensions, you should probably compare the X to the regular 8 and not the 8 Plus.

Verge is so far the only one to report issues with FaceID not working well in direct sunlight and under florescent lights. But I'll take that with a grain of salt for now as they're the same ones that blew the Pixel 2 XL screen issues out of proportion and even removed their review score for it as a publicity stunt.

I'll grant that, but for me, I was considering the 8 Plus and the X. I'd likely have waited for and gotten the X had it used Touch ID and not Face ID.

Seems like first gen versions of Apple devices are pretty hit or miss and more like beta devices. Seems like 8+ is the go to this year with refined versions of the X next year/year after once they work out all the kinks.

Good point, the 8 Plus is the most refined iPhone of the past 4 generations. TouchID works as best as ever on it. best battery life. Has the great A11 processor and very good camera. has wireless charging. is IP67 rated. And it runs iOS 11 like all iPhone's today.

The iPhone 8 Plus shares so much in common with the iPhone X, hardware is near identical. But the X has brand new technologies that may not work perfectly, and it will need a years worth of real people using it and giving feedback to Apple, for them to correct stuff on the next version or two.

My card was charged today. Hope it lives up to at least most of the hype.

I'm skeptical, but curious. I have a feeling there will be bugs to work out with FaceID. Bugs I'm not sure I'd be willing to deal with on a daily basis. But we shall wait and see if FaceID proves successful and mainstream ready once it gets into the million of antsy hands out there.

If I have any such problems, I'll return it as fast as I sent back my Pixel 2 XL.

I have a 7 plus. Can't stand the X screen "notch", I wouldn't be able to live with that. Plus I wasn't wild about IOS11 either, downgraded back to 10 on all my devices.

If you think about it, the forhead and chin are just really fat notches.

256 silver for me too. I think its the first non-black or space gray phone I've had since the iphone 4s.

The silver X will be my first non-black/space gray iPhone ever. I'm starting to wonder if I'll regret passing on the 256GB. I guess I can order it and return my 64GB if I really like the X. First world problems. ;)

These days it feels like it's easier to roll with 64GB than it has been. You don't need a lot of local music if you use a streaming music service; you can back up your photos in the cloud; and I suspect the days of having every app under the Sun are gone. The main advantages are having more room for video and, of course, storing the larger apps you do use. I wish it started at 128GB as 'insurance,' but I wouldn't turn down a 64GB model by any stretch.

<— 64GB Space Gray. Was gonna go big this time but realized I never end up using it uo

Ive had 64GB versions of various iphones and never even get close to filling it. 64GB is a shit ton of space. Andddd I love taking video/photos, especially with these amazing cameras now.

Needless to say, i got myself the 64GB space gray X :p

If there’s any deals within the next three months and they become easily available I’ll nab one. Other wise I’ll wait till next iteration.

X has a slightly better zoom lens and front facing camera than the 8+.

Moving up to the iPhone 8 Plus will get you a second 12Mp telephoto camera with an f/2.8 aperture. The iPhone X has the same additional camera but it has a better f/2.4 aperture and OIS.

The iPhone X also offers a better front facing camera as although it's still 7Mp it has Portrait Mode and Portrait Lighting. This should mean better selfies in comparison.

Silver 64gb for me. AT&T order still showing as Preparing to Ship with an 11/3 delivery date. Should update today I would imagine if it really will arrive Friday.

256gb gray and sold on ebay

I had thought about flipping but after reading early reviews I am pretty excited to try it out.

My only real issue with my 7+ is that it is physically larger than it should be and especially the width.

I received my iPhone X case and I had to double check my order to make sure it was not an iPhone 8 case (small phone not the plus) as the case seems so small.

Some X's have sold for ridiculous prices. eBay will make a ton on their 10% sales fees.

The grey market in China is blowing up too I hear.

This is what I’m doing. I was all set for the iPhone X until the keynote, at which point I just picked up an 8+ instead. Hopefully they have a Plus model with an OLED screen next year.

I don't trust eBay as a seller, especially for big ticket items. Their seller protection is extremely lackluster compared to the buyer protection.

All rumors point to this for the Fall 2018 iPhone lineup, I have read this from numerous Apple fan sites, that have a pretty good track record of enxt gen products.

- 5.8" iPhone XI ( replacing the standard size 4.7" smaller iPhone )
- 6.4" iPhone XI Plus ( replacing the standard size 5.5" Plus phones, overall footprint size of phone no bigger than the current iPhone 8 Plus )
- 6" iPhone 9 ( LCD screen, cheaper iPhone than the iPhone 11's but still sharing similar hardware )

Both iPhone 11 phones ( or whatever they will be called ) keeping a nearly identical style and design to the 2017 iPhone X. And the iPhone 9, keeping the style of the past 4 generations.

Most definitely. PayPal now allows up to 180 days for someone to file a claim. I've not been hit with that one yet but if you sell enough you will find that most of the time it's just easier to refund payment and move on.

Selling on Swappa or even here is more times than not worth it as you don't have the 10% eBay fees and you deal with better buyers that actually understand that you are not a store and are just selling stuff you no longer need or want.

My 8 plus is better for me, so I will keep it. :)

At least there are choices. I have no issue with the Plus other than the size. If there were an option with Touch ID over Face ID in the same size I would be all over the Touch ID version.

There is always the regular 8 but then you give up the better camera and better battery.

X sounds like battery will fall somewhere between the two, better screen (not considering the notch) and smaller physical size along with a slightly better camera than the Plus due to OIS on both lenses and the faster f2.4 vs f2.8. I don't take selfies so the front camera is not something I've ever thought about on any phone.

64gb space gray pre-ordered, but showing early december delivery date.

I got the case for it yesterday and it is smaller than I expected. I'm excited to see how it looks when I get the actual phone. If I don't like it, I'll sell on Ebay and buy an 8 plus.

Same, but I'll sell on Swappa. No insane 10% selling fee like eBay.

Agreed. Losing touchID was the main reason I didn't go for the X.

If FaceID proves to be just as capable then I won’t miss the TouchID.

It’s already sounding like it’s a way better component for ID’ing.

Some interesting things here I had not read or seen elsewhere:

One in particular I can see using at the office:

This version of iOS 11 is different from other iPhones

This is the first iPhone to have Tap to Wake. Something some Android phones have had for a while, of course. Here, it’s included so that if the iPhone X is on the table and you don’t want to pick it up to see the time, say, you can tap to see it. Want to see more? After you’ve tapped, lean forward until Face ID sees you and it’ll unlock the handset for you (hint: in my experience, lean in too close and it won’t do it, lean back a little and it will).
